  1. @sls Thank you for sharing your experience.

Probably was an honest mistake but since you declared it on N400, you came out as an honest person.

If your tax returns show you earned substantially more than $8K, the source is already there and justified.

I wish you all the best.

PS: There are people with criminal convictions & charges who have also become citizens before.

  2. @Anum Fahed Hi. Here are some points:

    1. Pending i751 will probably be processed first during your N400 interview so don't worry about it, just have all your documents with you,
    2. It's best to mention all addresses even if outside the US,
    3. It's best to mention all education and work history, even if outside the US,
    4. Since you didn't go outside US, you don't have to mention any trips before that as this question is very specific.

Wishing you all the best. I am sure some senior members will validate the information you need.

Entering using a tourist visa with the intent to stay and adjust status is visa fraud. .. so , no, bringing them over as tourists and then applying for Adjustment of status isn’t a better idea .

I thought getting a US tourist visa when you don't have one, to arrive in US and adjust status could be considered a fraud. When one already has a tourist visa, then they can adjust status as that's the option given by USCIS?

Hi Everyone. Just had my interview today and even though everything went well, the officer handed me a piece of paper indicating that a decision cannot be made. She said she had to have her supervisor review my case and if they need anything else they will let me know. My case is pretty straight forward so I am really confused as to how this happened. Did anyone else have the same experience? Thanks.

@KIEth Congrats for getting over with the interview. I had the exact same result and case was approved in 2 days.

    Best wishes.

@Junior-sfo, Thank you for quick response. I think you meant after moving SJ office was 15 mins away. Did you file for address change before the move or after? since we already know our tentative move dates.

I meant before the move since I was in Palo Alto, the last zip code serviced by SF office.

You can file for address change within 10 days of moving. I filed after I moved.

    :)

@Junior-sfo, I see you moved from SF field office to SJ while N400 in progress. Was the change hassle free? How long did it take for the change after you filed AR-11?

We bought a new house in San Jose and planning to move mid Aug and my N400 is currently in progress at SF with priority date in Dec 2018. Your feedback would be really helpful.

@SFO-Jan Congratulations on buying a home in bay area!! :)

The move from SF to SJ was absolutely hassle free. Before moving, the SJ office was 15 minutes away but SF was more than an hour away, so it helped a lot.

They changed my address in 11 days and they also sent my interview notice with it.

If you are talking about the forms, use the address change form AR11. This can be easily done online.

I went for my interview on May 14, it was a combo interview for I-751 (May 2017) and N-400 (June 2018). My I751 file had dust on it. :)

I got an RFE  for Taxes, but the officer did all the questions and forms and tests and signatures that I needed for my N-400. She told me once I submitted the

documents she would approve my application. Not a happy camper was I. We requested the transcripts from the IRS , it took 10 calendar days. We dropped them off in person on Tuesday May 28th, by Friday I had my oath letter for June 6th.  The oath ceremony was very nice, 36 people from 19 countries. I registered to vote the same day and  I applied for my passport the next day at the tax collector. Now I still think someone will come and tell me I forgot to dot an i or cross a t. I have PTSD from 5.5 years of filling out forms. I am done. Good luck my friends, Visa Journey has helped me from day one.

You have a lovely sense of humor. Congratulations!!!

I would caution though since you will be in the 3rd session of the day if you get there too early and you are driving you will find no parking as the folks and their families/friends from the first 2 sessions may still be lingering around doing passport applications and stuff. I arrived about 30 minutes before my scheduled time and found just as the previous sessions guests were leaving so thankfully didnt struggle to find parking

Great!! That gives us time for brunch :) - Appreciate your response.

    1. Get there early only if you are accompanied by some guest and they want to secure a seat. As far as I understand there are around 400-500 N400 oath takers. Additional 200 guests can be seated. Getting there early may be an hour or so only makes sense if you are being accompanied by guests. Oath takers are assured seat no matter what

    2. You can sign the N445 whenever you want as long as it is done prior to handing it over the immigration officer at the Oath Ceremony venue

    3. I signed my Naturalization Cert just as I sign any other doc. Passport folks accepted it without any issues

@nikha thank you for the valuable insight on all points. I will have my friend with me so we will make sure to get there early :)

I agree, no issue , but had to wait 1 hr after 22 hrs journey from India.  Hopefully, will get citizen soon and no more to deal with USICS.

@dilip you NEED to get Nexus/Global Entry if you own a green card. It really speeds up the entry. My last entry was 5 seconds on the kiosk and 3 seconds ("Hi how are you?") at CBP.

You can always update your citizenship if you acquire US citizenship later... Also, there is never a line for global entry or nexus lines ;)

USCIS will say anything, but without water-marked copy, do not travel, airlines will refuse to issue ticket.   My passport has I-551 stamp and it is stamped by USCIS , but I had to go for secondary inspection @ JFK ( one hr waiting time), so that they could check whether it is an authentic stamp.  If an immigration officer at the airport could not believe their own stamp ( USCIS) and need further checking, how do you expect other countries will belief non-watermarked copy.

    Hi Dilip,

At SFO, I arrived with my original letter and was still sent to secondary with a smile and a comment - "This is routine, don't worry please". They asked if I had an active petition, did some checking in the system for a minute and said I am free to go. This not only happened with the original notice but also with the stamp in the passport. However, I must say the officers were very nice and quick :) - No issues.

  12. Hi all, any advise for oath ceremony? I am scheduled for a 12:45 pm session at Campbell on 6/20.

    • How early should I get there to find a parking spot ?
    • Do I sign the N445 in front of the officer or can i sign it on that day before getting in line?
    • One thing I did note is to write my full name on the naturalization certificate and not do a normal sign. Please let me know if this is wrong.

Taking a black pen with me, my pictures, SSN, my passports, Green card and N445. That's all I have.

    Thanks for answering my questions.

You don't sound rude at all, no apology needed.

The CO looks at the totality of what's on the application in front of them.  And while ties are important, the CO is going to take more than that into consideration.

    According to the OP:

    -Mother lives in the US.

    -Sister lives in the US.

-OP has 4 denials over the past 2-3 years.  That's a quick succession of attempts/denials.

-OP has had 4 tourist visa  applications saying 3-4 completely different things in regards to the employment tie over the past 2-3 years (and will now have a 5th saying something different).  The CO will compare past applications to this new one.

The OP has home ownership, which is a strong tie---but they also have all of the above working against them.

As I said before, all the OP can do is try and hope for the best.

Sorry may i know what does OP mean? I see that a lot here but I am dumb and clueless.... Optometrist! lol...

I want to apply at my local passport agency cause it is not too far from where i live, but i dont need expedited, and even if i want to spend the extra $60 to get passport expedited, i have no proof like airplane tickets or such...

if only they take regular non expedited applications at passport agencies i' d go there only to not risk my original naturalization certificate in the mail..

$380 to replace it if lost ...that is too much money for a piece of paper.

Please let us not call it a piece of paper..... breaks my heart as many have waited for that for years....

Yes if the extreme cruelty evidence you submitted with your I-751 form were credible to USCIS they will just send you your Green Card, but if they had have any doubts they would’ve request an interview all depends on the Officer and the evidence submitted!!! But congratulations!!! and good luck on you N400 interview

    Sharing my case info:

Even though I filed for extreme cruelty waiver for removal of conditions on my green card, my case was treated as  VAWA case. During my N400 interview, VAWA word was highlighted on top of the application when I had to sign for travel and employment updates. Male here.

5/22- There was no question asked in the N400 interview (about greencard) so I did not have to prove bonafide marriage or abuses as I submitted following evidence during removal of conditions:

-Narrative of what happened, how it happened and where it happened,

    -Text messages from my wife,

    -Pictures when we lived together,

    -Affidavits from my family,

    -Medical report and prescriptions/evaluations,

-Bank account statements/health and car insurance/401K statements/Lease agreement statements - to show Bonafide marriage

5/24 - N400 has been approved. Waiting for oath ceremony.

My previous lawyer for green card filing told me that case could be even stronger if I had any police report/restraining order. Get these if you can.

Please don't give up. Don't tolerate the abuse/cruelty. Document even a small threat. No one is a slave.

Best wishes to all and I hope you emerge stronger from this experience.

  16. Hi, I had my N400 interview today and looks like they do treat VAWA and extreme cruelty the same way. Even though I did not apply for VAWA but got the conditions on the green card lifted, the screen had a red line on top saying VAWA.

No questions were asked about VAWA/I-751 - not at all.

Officer updated my marital status, travel history and asked me yes/no questions.

I didn't get approved on the spot, she said the supervisor needs to approve the case and I should be getting an update soon.

The same thing happened when once I called the USCIS number and officers couldn't give me the status as they said due to the extreme cruelty waiver the case is protected in the system and requires approvals to get in.

Wish I had the approval but that's not in my hands. I too all required documents proving good faith and cruelty with me but nothing was asked.

I am praying for approval. I do hope everyone gets a nice officer like I got today and my prayers are with you all for an easy journey.

    God bless you all.
