  1. interview dates are not booked automatically for you.

You'll need to book the interview yourself by using the case# on that NVC email you received and fill out the DS-160, pay the embassy fee, print the confirmation page, then select your interview date from those that are available.

Interview date finish very quickly so the moment a date become available take whatever you see. There also 50+ people waiting for interview dates so act quick

Since you've mentioned you'd need a co-sponsor and will probably be staying with your future MIL.. so maybe, a CR-1 route would be more beneficial for you, guys?

missileman has already perfectly described pros and cons of both, K-1 and CR-1 routes. But, please, just think of this again.

The OP made his decision to do K-1, so why try to shove CR-1 down his throat. its not always about the money with AoS costing $1225, not being able to leave the country OR not being able to work 6months. those are secondary reason that don't matter much.

The primary reason people choose K-1 is that they miss their partner so much and if the wait time is 3-4 months quicker than CR-1 than so be it. Another reason is the petitioner doesn't want to marry in the foreigners country at any cost, even if its cheaper to do so

My only advice is to file right away ASAP. I've been waiting for my NoA2 for over 4months now and counting

  3. This is why Nigeria is deemed to be "High Fraud". Everyone either applying for a tourist visa with the intent to overstay OR come pregnant and birth a child and go back. it makes my fiancé case more difficult to prove a bonfide relationship. I'm going back this April and will be my 4th visit within a year. hopefully racking up these passport stamp would be enough to overcome obstacles like this

The comments about K1 being faster than CR1 are not accurate because there is more to the process than just the initial visa.  Do more research on processing times and you'll see that K1 is taking almost as long as CR1 from filing to visa interview

    K-1 from filling to interview = 6 to 9months

CR1 from filling to interview = 12 to 15 months

your almost waiting twice as long. CR1 has more benefits for the longer wait time but some couples miss their partners so much their willing to sacrifice some of those benefits to shorten the wait time. Some couples don't want to do weddings abroad because traditional marriages are over the top(2-3days long in some countries) and very time consuming.

They do have to be truthful if asked.  If they aren't truthful when asked, then they would be lying.  You aren't suggesting they lie if they are asked directly right?

im not suggesting to lie but the OP is gonna do whatever it takes to get a visa for their fiancé

What if the CO asks if they had a traditional ceremony?  They would have to be truthful and the K-1 would be denied.

They don't have to be truthful because its none of the CO's business to know. what purpose will it serve in this case other than knowing beforehand that you will get denied. There is no marriage certificate when you do a traditional wedding. Absolutely NOTHING to show to proof other than the beneficiary opening their mouth about it at the interview.

  6. If you did a traditional marriage in any African or Asian country. In this case Thailand and what it means is that marriage is:

    • Not a legal marriage
    • Not on the Thailand constitution
    • Not on the court registry with Thailand.
    • Not recognized anywhere on earth outside Thailand

Then that attorney you spoke with was right, by all means go thru with the K-1 visa if you plan to live in the USA and get legally married in the US. Just don't show pictures of that traditional ceremony that you did in Thailand or even mention it at the embassy interview.

first of all it is best to fill in your timeline and complete your profile, with that people here can advise you better by just checking your timeline and profile.

what country is the beneficiary? do you mean you already got your noa2 ? and nvc case number so i assumed that you case is already at embassy of beneficiary? if this is the case then July 2019 imo in still too far, you still will have enough time, if your case has no complications, you just need 1-2months until visa is printed to the beneficiary's passport (this is ideal, pls dont beat me up on this)

From the way the OP sounds and the very distant wedding date. he's still waiting on NoA2

if you've been waiting 2months already then i'd say you petitioned November 2018.  Don't expect to hear anything any earlier than May 2019. You probably be getting your interview sometime in July, so your wedding date will be much later past July

To summarize your frustration, I've been waiting 4 months so far. No NoA2 yet

The problem with the above in bold is that they can get denied the K1 for the traditional marriage also. They are too many threads on VJ of people getting denied K1 visas because of traditional ceremonies like you mentioned. If you do a search you wiil find tons of K1 denials because of those ceremonies.

So the very safest advice is to not do any ritual/ceremony at all until after the K1 is complete and have married in the US. It is not worth it.

He only gets denied if he goes to the consulate bragging about his traditional marriage when he goes to drop off his passport. Note that the embassy already approved the OP and ready to stamp his K-1.

if he has a legal marriage documentation in Egypt then cancel K-1 and go thru with the CR1. otherwise his martial status is SINGLE outside of Egypt. There was no paperwork involved with this marriage. he will have to apply for a marriage certificate to be recognized in any western country.

NuestraUnion im familiar with those denied threads from those Casablanca and Islamabad consulates but it wont apply to the OP.  if his marriage isn't documented in the Egyptian court registry. don't wait another 12months after being in AP for 2yrs. go thru with the K-1. I don't see anything illegal he's doing

  9. Many people from developed western countries commenting on this don't understand that there different marriages in a whole lot of African countries.(traditional wedding, white wedding, different types of ceremonies) etc. Im surprised I didn't see any comments like this so allow me to further explain

If you did a traditional marriage in Egypt meaning not recognized anywhere on earth outside Egypt, Not on the Egypt constitution, Not on the court registry with Egypt. Then return the dowry you paid and go thru with the K-1 visa if you plan to live in the USA and get legally married in the US that would be recognized everywhere else in the world. those 2yrs you lost during AP you cant get that back.

If your marriage is recognized by the court registry in Egypt, then do as everyone here has mentioned and go thru with the CR1

  10. I've been hearing conflicting stories but I want to get the accurate answer here.

Can I file Employment Authorization Document, Advanced Parole and Social security number for my fiance after marrying her within the 90days but withhold filing Adjustments of Status to a future date due to the high cost

Is there a downside to doing it this way?
