I honestly do not think this is the case as the DS-160 questions and signature confirmation are the same for EVERYONE who applies regardless of embassy. I simply think it's a standard checkbox to tick on every K1 visa DS-160 application. Even if you look through the sample they provide on travel.state.gov, it has the same page with "displays for all k1 visa applicants" above it. I don't think it has anything to do with people "waiting their turn at MTL" ... just my two cents <3

I agree. I sent my P3 twice before they asked me to and they responded to the second one with P4. No problems!

I am hearing rumors that they are starting to do extreme social media/telephone vetting at the consulates. Has anyone had an run ins with this at the Montreal consulate?

What do you mean extreme social media/telephone vetting? Can you elaborate?

Thanks for the good vibes!!! I’ll keep this thread updated as the updates come along. I am, however, horribly pessimistic. They take so long to do everything, but I’ve been wrong about things in the past!

I feel like once the person who made the error realizes the effect the small error is having, they will quickly fix it and send it back! Good luck!!

So apparently that IMBRA box means if the petitioner has any sort of violent criminal record, USCIS must disclose it to the beneficiary. I can see why ticking yes or no on that box would be a big deal. Grrr.... it’s an easy fix but now I need to worry about the speed of mail. The Consulate sent my petition back two weeks ago and it’s still in transit. Humbug.

Thank you so much for sharing. I just went and checked my box to make sure it's checked and it is. I am sending all the positive vibes I can that your case is resolved quickly! I have a really good feeling for you though! Please update us when you get news!

We got our NOA1 Notice on 3/1/2018...we were planning our wedding for August 4th but we were told that is highly unlikely.  Now my fiance is very skeptical when we can actually plan our wedding for.  I was told by USCIS it might be approved between August-October.  If we are approved by October whats next...her medical exam and then her interview...?

    How long does that take?

Is it safe to try to plan a wedding for January?

Is all this delay because of Trump?

There's a girl on here who went to her Interview and was declined due to a clerical issue that they were not even able to explain. Her case was sent back to NVC. You cannot plan anything until you are approved in your interview. My interview date is exactly 11 months after the day we filed our I-129F. I'm going Canada to USA. I know wait times are different for different countries, but you really should expect a long wait. When you read it can take a year, it really can. It will be one year almost to the day before I'm in the USA with my fiancee if I'm approved.

Looking at this DS-160... On page 13 there is a question: Do you have any immediate relatives, not including? Should I answer yes or no to this question? Like are they talking about my fiancée in States or that do I have someone in my home country?

What's the rest of the question? I'm trying to remember what I put for that. I think I put none....so many different answers here on what we were supposed to put.

if apply now how long does it take from the time you file the I-129F petition to the time you get the k1 visa

i have been told it could take 18 months. is this true the way things are now, or is it still around 7 - 9 months to get it

    thanks

Mine will be 11 months to the day. My interview date is exactly 11 months from the date we filed I-129F.

Thank you very much for listing out the steps and date. this is makes it easy!

Also, have any of you visited your fiances in the US as a visitor after the DS-160 was filled? Is there any trouble in doing so?

I haven't...but people do. It's wise to get a letter from your work stating that you will be returning, or bringing some other kind of evidence that shows you are planning on returning to Canada. We're playing it safe and waiting until this process is over before I go to the US. My fiancee came her for our last visit.

Have a great weekend everyone!!! I'm settling down to watch the newest season of 90day fiance on TLC lol. In some strange way, it calms me down. I just look at these couples and think... "How did they manage to get a K1?! How???!??!?" Lol.

I have never watched it! lol but every time I tell someone the process, they say...”Ohh like the show?” I say...yeah like the show, but not like the show! 😂

Hi! I wanted to know how long did you wait from getting your NOA2 to getting Packet 3 and Packet 4? I just got my NOA2 today and doing some planning. THank you!

We received NOA2 on 04/09/18 and received Packet 3 on 05/25/18...but there are two steps after NOA2 before you receive Packet 3 & 4. Your case needs to be forwarded to the National Visa Centre from USCIS and you need to be assigned a case #. I would start calling the National Visa Centre one week after receiving NOA2. Their phone # is 1-603-334-0700. You tell them you're calling to see if you have a case # yet. Give them your USCIS case # (WAC) Once they finally receive your case and give you a case #, they will then forward your case to the  Montreal Consulate. Once the Montreal Consulate has your file, you can start sending them Packet 3 by email. I actually sent packet 3 to the Montreal Consulate before they asked me to. They sent packet 3 by email to my fiancee (petitioner) 2.5 weeks after they received our file, and he forwarded it to me. They responded to me with Packet 4 to the Packet 3 I had sent them 3 days earlier. It's very confusing. It seems like they send Packet 3 to the petitioner by email and the beneficiary by snail mail. My recommendation is once the Montreal Consulate has your file, just start emailing Packet 3 twice a week until you get a response back with Packet 4. Sorry for such a long response but I wanted to give the correct info! :)

Hi! I was wondering if you could share a bit about what to expect at the medical? I have mine next week and NikLR has hers soon too. We are both going to Medisys in Montreal. Or if you already posted that info, can you send us a link? Thanks😁

I think you meant to tag me, not the other Nikki lol! Thanks for thinking of me! I love hearing stories, reviews, experiences!! :)

You're supposed to call the NVC for your case number. At that time YOU give the beneficiary email.  If you do not do it at this time you can still check your CEAC with your case number if acquired.  If not yes, Montreal will send the BENEFICIARY snail mail and the beneficiary will need to email the information back as Montreal.

Packet 3 IS available for download as well from the consulate without them ever sending you snail mail or email.  But without your case number from the NVC you won't get very far.

If the beneficiary and petitioner chooses not to be proactive or check their mail that's their fault.  Who the heck doesnt check their mail when you're doing something important? Honestly I'd be concerned that the petitioner didnt want the marriage or immigration to happen if the case sat around without letting the beneficiary know about NOA2 (at which point the beneficiary takes control of the process except for the I-134.)

    Yessssss lol

Just  a quick update ..i received my packet 3 instructions in mail on Monday :) ( im a july 2017 filer ) . Another quick question... in the list of docs required in the instructions..its says "police certificate" . What is that?? Is it something i need to contact my local police dept to get? I dont have any offences except for speeding tickets.

Yes, you need to get a criminal record check through the police. If you don't have a criminal record, you just need the one where they search name & dob for any criminal record. You can probably do it online if you go to the website of your local police. I did mine online and received it in about 3 business days. It was around $50.

Sending your case to the consulate depends on the availability of k visa in your country in that very month nvc receive your case.

So if your case is taking longer than 15 to 17 day with nvc then know that K visa is not readly available at that moment maybe until the following month batch """"quoting from NVC website"

This is actually true. Most countries only have so many Visas they can approve in each category, so they likely split it up by month and that causes some people to have to wait longer than others.

I don't think anyone is getting my point, lol.

The Beneficiary's email is never ASKED for by any immigration entity. They only ask for the Petitioner's on the G1145. That makes no sense if they are all trying to go electronic. How would the beneficiary receive the emailed packet 3????

If beneficiary's do not know that they have to OFFER/GIVE NOTICE of their email to immigration, they will just have to wait for their Petitioner to forward documents THAT PERTAIN TO THE BENEFICIARY ONLY (???) or wait for snail mail????

(If i did that I'd get absolutely nowehere as my Petitioner doesnt check his email and lets the snail mail sit unopened on the table for months).

It makes no sense. And it's never discussed here.

I do get your point. And that's why you just call the NVC and give them the beneficiary's email address once the case # is assigned. I did that, and I still didn't get packet 3 from MTL. They only sent it to my fiancee (petitioner) I also sent Packet 3 to them without them asking me to, and that's where they replied with Packet 4.

Also, it's been so long that I don't 100% remember that there was no spot anywhere on the I-129 where we put our email addresses. In any case, there's no need to worry about it if you call them and give them the beneficiary email address once the case # is assigned.

There was a form that you can actually request to be informed thru email. I included it to my I-129F application before.

It was the form G-1145 e-notification form. Plus if you’ve signed up with uscis website before, they would have your email.

It may be too late now. But you can jut email MTL so they can get your email.

Yes, NVC definitely had my fiancee's (petitioner) email on file as we did put it somewhere on the I-129.

Can anyone elaborate how we get MTL to email Packet 3 to us rather than waiting for snail mail.

I updated our file with NVC with both our email addresses but I'm unsure if this will be still on file once it reaches MTL.

You can't call MTL so how do they get the beneficiary's email if we don't ask NVC to put it in our case file?

  19. 4 hours ago, K1visaHopeful said:

No why would I? I129f form has nowhere to give that info for the Beneficiary only the Petitioner...There is nowhere for that info.

How does the embassy ever get the beneficiary's email other than the beneficiary contacting the embassy themselves?

This, by far has been the biggest issue that has racked my brain through this whole process with no one ever disclosing the answer.

As soon as I got my case number from NVC on the phone, I added both mine and petitioners email to the file (before they sent it to the MTL) It will still be on file when it gets sent to MTL. Also, MTL never did email me packet 3. They only emailed it to my beneficiary and he forwarded it to me.

Dealing with the MTL has been the absolute worst part of this whole experience. It took me one full hour to book my interview last night because their payment processing system is really bad. And you can call MTL by the way. I was on the phone with 4 different agents last night. Each time they tried to transfer me to the telephone "Payment IVR system" their phone lines would disconnect me, or not recognize the account number I was told to put in. A few times, I called back, waited on hold and the line would disconnect the minute they finally answered. The phone # for MTL is 1-438-793-1947. Just listen to the prompts, but to get a person, I believe you press 1, then 8, then 4. They're soooo nice and helpful once they answer, but their phone system is messed up.
