ViktorS got a reaction from Troy B in Taxes for 2019 - what's better? Married filing jointly or married filing separately?
    You could get ITIN: https://www.hrblock.com/tax-center/filing/personal-tax-planning/tax-help-for-us-citizen-married-to-non-resident/
    https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/nonresident-alien-spouse
The relevant search will be "treating non-resident alien spouse as resident"
As far as I understood you need to mail to IRS:
W7 Your passport Declaration that you and your spouse what to treat you as a resident alien 1040 with "W7 attached, applied for ITIN" in place of yours SSN The documents you regularly need to file with 1040 (W2s, etc)

Expect the normal time of a few weeks, but there's really no way to know.  Lots of government employees are not going to work.

Suppose he’ll find a joint sponsor. But even in this case he is your main sponsor. Do inmates file taxes, by the way? And what does he write in his I-130 Petition as his residence address...cell number, Unit number, Prison name?
P.S. Where’s that VJ guy with his ~Tales of the Green Card~?🙊

ViktorS got a reaction from James D in Tourist Visa Likely after NOA2?
Word of caution: your wife will need to fill DS-160 which has a question about relatives in the US. She should include you as her husband. Misrepresenting this info may lead to CR1/IR1 denial. Having husband as a relative on DS-160 will likely cause the questions about immigration intent which will lead to B1/B2 denial. So, Brazil may be a better place to celebrate the holidays.

Correct but also understand that processing time is really less than an hour, in terms of petition adjudication.  The rest of the time, your petition is sitting in a box in a dark closet somewhere.  Your previous petition WILL increase what I am referring to as "processing time" above by a few minutes.

ViktorS reacted to John & Rose in I-130 (CR-1) denied because USCIS lost the RFE they received.
Since those pages were about a translator or preparer we also left them blank.  Now I know what to do if we get the same RFE.

    You're over-analyzing. Relax.

Highlighting supporting evidence is fine. Photocopies that are not altered to hide anything aren't an issue.

ViktorS reacted to fosterfication in Bona Fide Evidence EXACT Photocopies?
This forum and site has been incredibly helpful so far, and I'm back again with another question. The i-130 Petitioner's Declaration states "Copies of any documents I have submitted are exact photocopies of unaltered, original documents, and I understand that USCIS may require that I submit original documents to USCIS at a later date."

Does this pertain to EVERYTHING in the bona fide evidence? Or just official documents (ex: birth and marriage certificate)? If it must be for everything, how how do you deal with things like cards that are larger than a regular letter? What about boarding passes, can you resize them? Copies of passport stamps? Can you resize digital documents (ex: travel itineraries) that would otherwise take up an excessive number of pages?

Is it ok to highlight the pertinent information in these documents? Or would that be considered "altering" them?

    Thanks again!

ViktorS reacted to pushbrk in i-130 Part 5. Other Information: what should be in the City or Town field
Dallas, TX  (That's where you "mailed" the petition, even though its intake was done in an office physically located in Lewisville, TX.)
Result would be "Petition approved, but visa denied"
