  1. Hi everyone, looking for some insight or experience regarding my parents' situation. Background: My parents visited the US for 6 months/year for the last 3 years on B1/B2. GC Timeline: We applied for their Green Cards in June 2025 after deciding they will move here permanently; they were approved in August 2025. Travel: They went back to India in October 2025 (2 months after getting GC) to wrap up personal business. They returned to the US in December 2025 (stayed 2.5 months). The Issue: Upon entry in Dec 2025, the CBP officer advised them to get a Reentry Permit because they are "spending too much time outside the US." Questions: Why would they be warned for a 2.5-month trip? Is it because of their previous history as visitors, or the fact they left so soon after getting the GC? They have a 2-week trip to Ireland planned for Sept 2026. They won't travel internationally at all between now and then. Should they apply for a Reentry Permit just for this 2-week trip? Or was the officer just looking at their overall "footprint" from the last few years? Has anyone else’s parents received this warning for relatively short trips? Thanks in advance!
  2. Amazing to see all you getting your interviews scheduled. Is the timeline different for parents when compared to spouse? I just sent my parents I-485 today and had filed I130 online last week.
  3. Excited to see everyone getting their biometrics and interviews so quick. Is the timing for I-485 for a parent different? I am filing in a couple of days so just curious.
  4. Hi karan1981 - I'm in the same position as you, did you end up filing for your parents? What documents did you use?
  5. Did you also need to submit their marriage certificate? Do you know if birth certificate is not available then what documents they can submit alternatively?
  6. What document did you end up submitting in place of marriage certificate?
  7. Thank you for your response, MSSF! Do you also know what alternate documents would work for marriage certificate?
  8. Hi All, I'm planning to apply for my parents green card application but they do not have a marriage certificate. I read the reciprocity documents but found it a little confusing so seeking some advice and guidance from this community. My parents got married in 1979 and never got their marriage registered. They've been trying to get a marriage certificate in India but no success. Can I submit the following alternate documents instead? 1. My birth certificate showing both their names 2. Affidavits from close relatives confirming details of their marriage 3. Photos from their wedding with the same relatives and more 4. Old and new passports showing each others name under spouses 5. Voter ID showing each others name as spouse 6. Joint bank account statements 7. Properties with both their names on it Would this evidence suffice or marriage certificate is extremely mandatory? Thank you in advance!
  9. Hello! I just wanted to check if you were successful in getting a GC for your dad? My parents dont have a marriage certificate and we are thinking of submitting affidavits with marriages pictures, my birth certificate with their names, my passport with their names. Hopefully that will be enough.
  10. Hi! Did you send in affidavits and get approval? I am in the same situation.
  11. Hi! I am a U.S. Citizen and my parents are from India. I want to adjust their status but they don't have a birth certificate or a marriage certificate. They were born in 1950 and 1956 and married in 1975. What options do they have in terms of alternate documents? Thank you in advance!
  12. They do! I had mine 2 weeks ago and she was allowed to come with me.
  13. Hello! I have my N-400 Interview (probably a combo interview due to pending I-751) on Jan 9th, 2024 and was wondering if anyone has a document checklist they used to compile all documents outside of the documents mentioned on the interview letter. Any additional tips are also welcome Excited but also nervous for the last step of the process. Thank you all for all your guidance throughout this entire journey!
