Helping mother-in-law apply for US citizenship. However, it is asking for evidence regarding her grown adult children. Do I really need to submit this evidence? * her daughter (my wife) is already a US citizen * her other children are adults and they either are US citizens or live abroad And if so, what evidence do they need? Getting copies of birth certificates may be a hassle.

Hello! I'm getting ready for my interview in Montreal next week and have noticed that the consulate email checklist requires both beneficiary AND petitioner's birth certificates. This is different to the packet 3 instructions I received. Would a copy of my fiance's birth certificate suffice? Curious to know what other montrealers have done? Thank you!

Hi! I am a US citizen and have applied for a I-130 for my parents on 3/31/2021. I am trying to apply for I-485 for them and it asks for their birth certificates. They were born in the 40's and 50's so they do not have a birth certificate. Can they self swear n affidavit in front of a notary and use that as secondary proof, since its not a good time to get an affidavit from India? I am also planning to get a 'Birth certificate based on passport' from the Houston Consulate (we live in TX) by sending their passports as another secondary form of evidence. Please advice if this would work or if any other suggestions for getting their birth certificates. Thanks!

I applied for AOS, and submitted my original birth certificate (which was issued 3 years after I was born), and did not have my name. Additionally, I provided birth affidavits from my parents, as well as other secondary evidence including 10th and 12th marksheets. However, USCIS issued an RFIE for a birth certificate. I went to the local municipality in my city in India, and they issued me a birth certificate, with all the details. However, the registration date on that is June 2021, which is clearly a long time after I was born. I have tried asking them if they could issue me one that has a registration date based on my hospital birth record, but they said they can't do that. I am requesting them to add a note to the new birth certificate with the number and date of the old one (which was issued three years after my birth). Additionally, I will be submitting the affidavits and other secondary evidence again. As per the RFIE, I need a Non Availability of Birth Certificate (NABC) in case I don't have a birth certificate, but since the municipality has already issued me a birth certificate, they are not willing to provide a NABC. Has anyone else run into this issue where the registration date is much later than the birth date? What did you do?

Hello. I'm in F2B category and have been contacted to submit documents. I can't find my birth certificate so I went to the National Population Commision to get another one. Rather than give me a birth certificate loke I requested, I was issued some kind of letter of attestation of birth with my passport photo attached and stamped, all with correct details. I'd like to know if anyone else has been in similar shoes and if the attestation of birth letter was accepted by the NVC.
