Out of curiosity, why would a Canadian bank be interested in your US taxpayer status? Do you use a Canadian bank account for income you earn in the US?

Why wouldn't you open and use a US bank account for living in the US?

I of course have a US bank as well. I travel back to Canada frequently so I have just kept it.

  2. My bank in Canada is requesting my ITIN, I am a permanent resident now and I don't think I was ever issued one (I got my SSN 2 weeks after entering the U.S.)

I am super confused on the difference between the two and online all I can find is that if I have a SSN already I can't get apply for a ITIN nor do I need one? anyone know?

    thanks

Out of curiosity did you happen to check the status of your case occasionally with USCIS?

    https://myaccount.uscis.gov/

    https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/logon.do

I only ask because the status on ours has not changed since the receipt of our case which was on Oct. 5. We also had a biometrics appointment on 12/3 and that was never reflected as an update on our status page (At least we have the stamp on the biometrics letter that shows we came in for the appointment for proof). We've checked both sites and both have the same information to this date.....the receipt date of 10/5 and that's it. We have an SRC case number so it is under the Texas Service Center.

I'm just wondering if your status ever reflected any changes such as the biometrics or anything else outside of the initial receipt date.

    Thanks!

I get email notifications for my updates and when I get a notice I shoot over to the "case status"  and all of my updates were there. My biometrics were waived, I didn't have to go in again for those and I was not required to go for an interview.

    These are my updates:

May 18, 2022 Case Was Approved
May 17, 2022 We ordered your new card.
April 4, 2022 The Post Office returned your document to us.
January 8, 2022 The fingerprints relating to your Form I-751 Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, were taken.
August 19, 2021 We received your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence.
  4. This was their response to me:

The status of this service request is:

On 04/04/2022, you or your representative contacted USCIS concerning your I-751 to notify us that you have not received a notice that our electronic systems show was sent to you. Below is a summary of what we found and how the issue has been or may be resolved.

We acknowledge that our systems indicate that a document was returned as having been undeliverable. However, a review of your case appears to indicate that there are no pending notices of action. Based on our review no action is currently required by you. We apologize for any confusion.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

  5. Hey,

I am getting together all my stuff for the I-751 , I think I know everything I need to include from what it says on the website and what I've read in other posts but I would love some pointers on important things to have in the packet.. or even what you submitted and got approved with.

I am including my lease, is it okay to just submit the first page with the details and the last page with all the signatures ? The lease is 69 pages long so it seems like a lot of extras to include?

    Thanks in advance!

Absolutely agree. I had that issue while trying to open a bank account at a local credit union. They didn't accept it even when I presented my green card. It also applies if you're trying to get a job while doing ROC and your green card has expired. Many employers don't understand what an extension letter is, even though they should. If you have the time, update your card!

Makes sense! Still job searching so I'll definitely get it updated! Thank you!

You can come in when SSA offices open again to update your status, they will remove that annotation.

    Great thank you!

You are not required to get a new SS card w/o the wording. However it is highly recommended that you do when possible. Mainly to avoid confusion when you need to present your SS card. In general the public is rather ignorant when it comes to immigration stuff so you may find when attempting to open a bank account or apply for a loan they dont know what to do with a card with that wording on it. Or when you apply for a new job - they may not know what it means or that its N/A. Also when doing e-verify you can use an unrestricted SS card along with a DL as proof of work auth. If you have the wording on the card you can not- you have to provide specific documentation. You may say well thats fine but what if you lose your GC and also need to apply for a job (or go through e-verify at current job)- well then you are going to have a problem so again its just best to get the inapplicable wording removed.

Awesome, thanks for the info. And you're right so many have no idea about anything immigration related, had a very rough time with vehicle insurance, drivers license AND getting a SS lol! When things open back up I'll head to the SS office!

To add to the SS card anyone getting their citizenship should also go to the SS office and update their status to citizen

SS says it does make a difference in the system (last step and then you don't have to think of immigration again)

    Great! Thanks!

My husband and I went for the interview on November 19th at Chicago office and on November 21st the app status changed to "interview was completed and my case must be reviewed" is that normal and does anyone else got the same status?  How long does it take to get approval status?

    Thanks

That's what happened to us as well! The guy was super friendly and told us everything looked good but he just had to go through all of it. Status changed to "must be reviewed" then like 4 hours later changed to "card being produced" lol, I got my greencard in the mail 8 days after the interview!

A week for the actual card.My notice came    two days after the card . I don’t know about someone else but that’s my experience. The notice came through a normal mail but the card was a next day mail.

I got a notification by email my card was sent out to me in the mail today and I haven't recieved my "mailed" notice. I wonder which one I'll get first haha!
