[Florida Drive License - no EAD, SSN and GC need]

Folks, I am here to tell my history and maybe can help others.

I went at Tampa's DMV on January to apply for my DL, since I have heard that I might could get it.  However, the officer told me that in order to get a Florida DL is needed either EAD (or approval letter) or CG plus the SSN. So, I gave up.

Time has passed, and I heard again from another AOS's filler friend of mine that this person was able to get the DL without EAD, SSN or GC. So, I decided give another shot and try it again. However, in this time I went in different location (Tampa area there are many offices) and brought with me all documents (all notices letters from USCIS, my husband passport and mine, his certificate of naturalization, proof of address, certificate of marriage registration, I-94 ~ even it was expired, was necessary ~ and TLSAE certificate number ~ if you have a foreign DL, just bring it and no TLSAE is needed) (make sure to bring  the original of all documents, some documents I brought simple copy and I could finish the process until I show the original). And then, I was able to take those test and get the DL.

End of the history, we (AOS's fillers) can get Florida DL when we are waiting for the EAD and GC. Just make sure to bring all those document in original and explained well your situation with documents. I think, in the first time I got a bad officer and, on top of that, I did not have all those documents.

Congrats! Nice to have a real local ID hahahaha. The state of NJ should copy and follow suit!

After three attempts at a DL and state ID I had to wait for EAD. Nice to know.

Hello, I rarely post on this forum, but I watch it like a hawk.We are NJ residents and September filers. Only just got our "Ready to schedule interview" update last week. Also applied for EAD expedite based on Job offer, but after talking with a Tier 2 rep on January 22nd, he said Expedites weren't guaranteed based on job offer abd we should really have our EAD/AP combo card by mid February, no later than that. So that was the silver lining, hoping he's right.

Fellow from NJ here too!  Dec Filer, with a "Case ready to schedule interview" since Jan 15. Let's all hope NJ is getting out of the lag! 😄

I have read on this group That when update to “case is ready to be scheduled for an interview” it is means that they sent your case to the local oficial, in your case to Newark. And then, you play the game to waiting in the line to be scheduled the interview”.  This is one of the most important updates.  Now your case iit is an local office. Finger crossed and good luck.

Since I did the biometric, on 1/17/18, I didn’t get any update and it freak me out. I wish at least received my EAD.

Thank you!  Good luck to you too.

I'm finding this wait for the EAD very difficult! My receipt date was December 13 and my biometrics appointment in Detroit was January 7. I haven't heard anything since then and I know that the wait can be as long as 7 months. What is everyone doing to help pass the time?

We have the same dates.... mine says "Case Is Ready To Be Scheduled For An Interview" for the I-485 and "case was Received" for EAD, no changes in these two at all since Dec13th.

I am in NJ, my office is Newark,, let's pray for the best because it does feel like a path uphill at time!  :-S

I am keeping busy with online classes, it helps me.

  5. A heads up in you are in New Jersey and are scheduled for Elizabeth or Hackensack.

My biometrics appointment is for Friday 11th in Hackensack, NJ. I tried walk-in yesterday because it was very early and I had a conflict, and they did not accept me. They do not accept walk-ins.
Lady was nice enough to change my time for later though.... Their policy is "Only Emergencies" Not sure what an emergency means for them 😉

This is so frustrating :( I have a SSN from 2014 and originally thought that the name change will be super easy, then I will get my driver's license and will be set with my American ID. Oh well 🙈I read on VJ that some local offices need "just" EAD/AP card, perhaps you can try a different office once you have it? I will definitely try then and keep you in loop :)

I tried in NJ, after two lines and checking of my documentation I was told I have to wait for my EAD to apply since after marriage K-1 is no longer valid, even when I had one more month left on my I-94. I will try other MVD office though.

That is horrible!! Everything is taking so long, it’s ridiculous.

It happened to me.  I went a few days after my arrival and was sent for manual verification.  Handed me a letter saying it will arrive in 4 to 6 weeks.  6 weeks after I called again knowing it was ready in SAVE. They said they would follow up and for me to call again in 5 days. I did and left a message.  The lady in charge of new cards called me back and said they were still following up.  I was told I did not have to go or call again.

I got another letter after that call saying I had applied and would receive SS cars in the next 10 business days.

4 days later I got my card in the mail.  This was all in the Hoboken, NJ. Took around 7 1/2 weeks in total.

    Hey,

I got the same message when I checked in the SAVE last week. It has been 9 weeks since I applied for my social and they still say its under manual verification. But it does say 'returned to agency'. What should i do now, Please help.

Did you get your issue resolved? How long did it take to get your card after SAVE said that? I am still waiting after 6 weeks and they said they are waiting on verification in my local office. Thanks so much!

Some embassies do not allow sponsors for K-1 fiance visas. Also some require I-864 instead of I-134 for affidavit of support for fiance visas. Can someon tell me the norm for Mexico embassies?

For Mexico. They accept co-sponsor and the form used should be I-134 from both petitioner and co-sponsor making sure you attach all supporting documents.

  10. No, you do not have to wait until you receive the letter from the Embassy to make your appointment. All you need is your NVC case to say ready and it will let you proceed with your appointments in here: https://ais.usvisa-info.com/es-mx/iv , create your profile, it will ask you for your NVC CDJXXXXXXXXX number and if they have the case already- (Reason why it is important that it says READY at NVC) it will let you into the scheduling system. - K-1 is technically an immigrant visa because of the intention to immigrate, but down the line, it changes to non-inmigrants, its true nature. Have your DS-160 number in hand too.

The sooner you pay for the visa and schedule your ASC (For your fingerprints), Consulate and Medical appointment. It is taking over 3 months to have availability. Somewhere between your approval and your appointment, you will receive the letter by regular mail telling you to take it with you to the Consulate, so luckily here we don't have to wait.

    Hope the information helps you.
