One of the most simple truth's I learned in computer school. Ask the user what has changed since this problem started. 90% of the time that was the problem. It works on so many things in life.
 
40 years ago we had just as much or more gun availability but very little mass shootings.
 
Somethings changed. Its not the guns 
 
 

As our society slips further down the garbage chute of liberalism, these events seem to happen more frequently.  It appears to be a decay of civil society.  I don't think this is a coincidence at all.

Yea we also see ...  mass truckings ... car bombs ... IEDs ... acidings ... bad music at the Bataclan theatre ... oh and what's a few beheadings among friends ... 

These actions a little over a year ago would have resulted resulted in the race card being played by the media et al.

I know a few people who would consider that overcrowded ...

This culture(s) you speak of has a belief system is so broken ... that it has zero regard for any human life. Any slight, hurt or disappointment sends these people off into a rage that only knows how to maim and destroy.
 
There are many tools for people of this culture ... we see the results of this culture everyday ... all around the world.

Employers today are looking at social media during the hiring process and constantly throughout employment.
Freedom of speech protects you from the gov't ... not the private sector.
 
When you work for someone you "ride for the brand". What you do ... how you act ... tells people about yourself and the brand you represent. 
Don't want to garner the attention of HR for your off-hours escapades ... don't brag about it.

Let's also talk about the truck culture, fertilizer culture, acid culture, knife culture, toss-off-the-building culture, mutilation culture, etc.
These all require one thing .. a human being with the intent to harm others.
 
A human being is the problem ... not the item selected to inflict harm.

I've heard this before ... my wife said we are a fiercely independent bunch with a can-do... must-do attitude.
This hero wants to do good ... help others .. slay dragons ... win the big game ... 
While it may be nice to be the popular recognized hero ... there are many who just want to be the hero at home with the only reward being hugs and kisses from the family.
 
The thing to remember ... that be a success or failure ... do the right thing and keep trying. Be able to look at the face in the mirror and know you're working towards good goals. (gosh ... i almost sound like a cubs fan ... )
Can it be frustrating ... depressing ... well who's yardstick are you measuring yourself against? Your own or that imposed by the media and others?
 
 
 

I remember guns at school very well. Always in the parking lot ... especially during hunting season. Never a problem.
 
Raging lunatics were around back then ... remember David Berkowitz? Juan Corona? John Wayne Gacy? Carl Eugene Watts? William Bonin? 
Bad people were around back then too 

overcrowding.  i remember reading an experiment with mice, where they overcrowded them and they all went nuts, became cannibals and so on.

This is VERY true.  Times HAVE changed.  It's sad (and strange to me) that we are where we are today as a society.  I often wonder what my grandfather would say about how things have changed, and why.

Do stay focused on the problem.
This does not exist without a human being who has no moral compass and no regard for life doing the nasty deed. It was their choice ... nobody made them do it.
Blaming others is deflecting the blame ... responsibility solely belongs to the person inflicting harm.
