Approaching 17 months after interview!
Painfully separated from my family: wife and son!
I hope someone from the State Department read this thread to see the amount of pain everyone is going through!
No one would like this hardship to his family and no one should like this to anyone else!

16 months and still waiting.
Had my interview in Khartoum, Sudan. On the 18th of Dec 2017.
Hired a lawyer and recently she said they might have lost my papers OR the people in the Sudanese embassy didn't even place the order for security clearances to begin with!
May God help us out of this hell on earth. Let's not forget though, we're healthy and safe still. May we get reunited with our loved ones soon.
May Allah Make it easy for you! You are right we need to appreciate and be thankful to Allah for the health and sound mind! You will soon get your visa! Congratulations to Sudanese people the new era towards democracy!

Isn t it ironic that "Faith", Islam and "Alah" are the very reason behind the Ds-5535? Again I hope I am wrong, but the Man in charge said: "…A complete shutdown of Muslims….etc". He attempted a Ban on all Muslim Countries, but had to narrow it down. Very Sad how religion can be the root of a lot of evil on this planet. When religion should bring peace and justice to all humanity regardless or nationality, faith, gender, color, ethnicity etc…. I have great respect for all religions, but have zero tolerance nor respect for extremism in any religion, shape or form. Let us hop the Man finds it in his heart and allow our loved ones to come home. He is our only hope and the greater Powers too, of course. Be it Alah, Krishna, Jesus, Buddha or Pegasus.
Well: we will disagree here! I think this is not the place for this type of discussion. Our issue right now is not religion. The issue is the DS5535 form and a government policy!

I could not have said it better. Agreed that Marriage is a blessed institution and love must conquer all. However, reality has a different picture of it all. My statements regarding my own marriage come from my deep and true love to my wife. I feel she deserves a lot better than this experience and ordeal. No one should be put in this heartless and inhuman dark hole. Had I known, I d have spared my wife this pain and suffering. As someone stated above, there is no solution nor light at the end of the tunnel here. Again, I hope I am so very wrong and that our spouses come home soon. You have been waiting for over 18 months. What are your plans? I hope you hear something soon so that this tread becomes a bit hopeful.
Thanks my friend! I have been waiting for 16 month. The most realistic plan at this point is patience! I have strong faith in Allah that a solution is certain!

Mainly because my wife and I expected this dreadful form; She is from Fez, an imperial city that has not been liked lately.
Honestly, I am not sure what to do because I can not move there, and obviously she can not move here. I wish I had known
she would not be able to come here. It would have saved us money and perhaps, we would have not pursued each other.
Marriage and family are meant to be under one roof, or at least know when they would be together. Currently, there is no indication we will have a normal life, together in one home where I make a living and feel at home. I have a great career here in my country, and it would be almost a career suicide to move to Morocco. Add to that my entire family is here and I can not imagine myself living overseas. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of assuming I, a proud Us citizen, have the right to marry whomever and bring her home. I paid fees and went through all the steps without an RFE nor a Sponsor. My wife had never left Morocco nor done anything to raise a flag for this Ds form. BUt, it is what it is and we are just taking it one day at a time and keep praying and hoping for a miracle.

Hello my friend! This marriages are written in haven! Now that you are blessed with this sweet marriage, please be optimistic and never value any thing above marriage, no country, not a job, nothing above family and marriage. Please be patient, and travel as often as possible to meet your spouse. I made 5 visits to my wife in Tangier area in just 15 months. I value my wife more than my self, if denied the visa, I will go to court, and if court also denied my wife visa I will go to the next level and next level until the supreme court, and if the highest court denied my wife visa, I will give up the US citizenship at that point! Nothing worth in life than a loving spouse and a great family. Like your case, I have a great job in USA. I hold a terminal degree and a higher position. If my country (US) doesn't value me, I am willing to move on and live in any country that recognize my quality. This processes so far doesn't make any sense. My wife and I are VERY educated and have nothing in mind than contributing to our country (US) and the humanity at large. We are intelligent, we love life and we wanted to bring up our family to be so. We do not fit the profile for this security screening, but its what its. So my advise is to be patient. Moroccan are sweet people, seek help and support from friends and be optimistic. Always believe that the final decision comes from Allah, that me be to live with your spouse in USA or else where and always for a good reason! Never regret or heart your spouse because of this process, be grateful that you got to know and marry your spouse. I do not have Moroccan background, but married to a VERY loving beautiful Moroccan wife, and have very beautiful son from my wife. If asked to repeat this over, I will still with great love marry my wife despite of all these difficulties!

I hope I am wrong, but
is it possible the Ds-5535 is just a "Backdoor Ban"?
Since its introduction, I have monitored websites from Fb pages to VisaJourney.
Only a hand full of cases have received Visas after submitting the form.
Is it possible only a single digit percentage of applicants get thru? only to show the form is not a "Backdoor Ban"?
Again, I hope I am wrong, but numbers are not encouraging. Also, there is Zero Transparency about this Ds form.
Please correct me and for the third time, I hope I am wrong that this might be just a Ban in this mysterious Ds-5535.
When you did receive the forum?

I heard its taking 3-4 years to clear ds5535 because of backlogs within US itself and least priority is given to foreign immigrant application .
Where did you hear that? The form started around May 2017, so there is no question of 3-4 years. Please do not spread fear among the people. There are many reasons for someone to be kept on the AP, usually for incomplete documents or inconveniencing evidences such fake marriages etc. However the DS5535 has only one purpose: that is to screen applicants for any link with terrorism or potential security risks. There are many who received their visas withing 10-13 months. However since the beginning of this year we have seen slow in the process initially because of the government shut down. I personally has been waiting since 15 month for my wife to get cleared. Her interview was in December 2107.
So please let us not to spread false information. No one knows how long this may take, no one in the state department or the consulates talk about that, so any information is merely a guess! I wish everyone the BEST!!!

That was exactly my point. You misunderstand the reason behind why i asked those questions.
At the same time, if anyone wants to share then they should have every right because this is a support group. But making judgements without any evidence or knowledge is unreasonable and just cruel. We are here to give each other hope and most importantly share our struggle so we feel comfort in the fact that this sh*** isnt just happening to me alone but there are in fact thousands out there who are in a similar if not a worse position. People who've been separated from their family members far longer...We should pray for each other and continue to give each other hope. And celebrate when one of us succeeds.
Well done! All love and respect. This has been very difficult journey for all of us! Let us support each other. In this day I pray for all of us to be unite with our loved ones!

I am really curious, what is your occupation? What visa did you apply for? From where (i am ssuming Islamabad)? What is your name? When did you have your interview? And when did you receive the ds? Share your experience please.
These are unfair questions. No one should answer such personal questions on this open forum!! I hope we are respectful of each other privacy!

I find this judgment call of yours very interesting!
Good point!!!! We here just to share our experience with each other, not to judge or investigate any one. but to support each other on this very long process that resulted in our families separations.

No one here has the right to judge what will happen. No one should share their information here such as what is your occupation etc. This group is simply a support group!!!

My GOD! hi there. I'm Sudanese but Saudi resident. My US citizen husband filed for CR1 8th of Aug, 2016.
I had my interview in Khartoum, Sudan. 18th of Dec, 2017. Haven't heard a thing from anyone to date!
We have cntacted the congressman, the senator and some really powerful person in the senator and got nothing. Hired a lawyer last week and I've no idea if it might help getting my case off the rut.
People need to share their good news for us to live with some hope 😭😭
Praying for all of us!
My prayers with you. This is quit unusual for Sudanese cases which tend to resolve faster. I think the complications came from you Saudi residency. I wish you best of luck. Just be patient!
My wife had her interview in Morocco in December 2017, we are also waiting for her visa. It is hard, but nothing can be done at this point!

This visa is for my husband but I’m turning in all the paperwork and stuff for him. His interview was October 19, 2018.
Best of luck, you are early in the process. I hope you do not go through what we experienced. My wife completed now more than 12 month. No single update unless we email them. I think it is a good idea to contact your senators who could email the consulate on your behalf. The consulate usually respond to senators offices. That way you can know if they have all your DS 5535 materials.

Same. I only got the automatic message that they received my email but they never responded to my inquiries or emailed me back saying that I’m still on AP. I’m just worried now because someone said after a whole year, the consulate called her and told her that they never received her Ds5535 form even though they verbally confirmed it.
I totally understand your worries. When was your interview?

This is for everyone on AP with DS5535 from MOROCCO.
Please reply if your consulate is in Morocco!! I would love to chat and get updates from everyone in the same consulate. Also, did anyone get a confirmation that the casablanca consulate received their DS 5535 form? I never got an email confirmation. But I called the NVC and they said the consulate received it and all my husband’s documents.
We did not get confirmation other than the automatic message that come whenever you email the consulate. I do not think the confirmation is necessary. What is important is when they respond to your email to let you know that your case is still undergoing the necessary AP. That by by itself is a recognition of the fact that they received the stuff and now they are working on it.

I’m curious if anyone else working with the Casablanca Consulate is emailing for statuses and not getting any responses? I emailed them in August and again in November, both times I can only assume they read the email because our file was touched. Yet both times they did not respond to me. It also took them a couple of weeks to even read my emails each time. I didn’t exactly ask for a status, but instead asked that they please take into consideration that we have been patiently waiting for 16 months and only followed up 4 times. We would appreciate if they could please wrap things up so we can finally be together. Our Senator checked in for a status at the end of August and finally received a response at the end of September assuring her that they would contact my husband as soon as their Additional Processing was complete.
Also, I am curious what do others say in their emails to the Consulate exactly? If we continuously ask the same question, “ what is the status of our visa application?”, then wouldn’t it be expected that we would get the same response? “Still in AP, please wait.” Is the tone of your follow up angry, sad, patient, understanding? I’m just curious what the Consulates are seeing on their end and which types of follow ups seem to get a response.
Last, I attempted to call the Consulate when I was in Morocco recently, but it seems each time I called, their phone prompt doesn’t offer an option to actually speak to a human. Has anyone else had success with reaching someone by phone at the Casablanca Consulate?
Deab
Hi Deab,
In general they are good with responding to my emails, of course with the same message: Your case is still undergoing the necessary administrative processing etc etc. I also sent them emails in November and they never responded to me. However they always responded to the senator office. But the senator only send emails every two months. We are now about 12 month waiting. Boy, they are the most painful 12 month in my life. Whoever made/designed that extreme vetting stuff has no heart and doesn't understand basic human psychology. Separating and dividing families when they are legally supposed to be together is simply inhuman.
As far as the language: no one use angry tone, no one benefit from angry messages, also, remember when you communicate with the consulate, you are talking to federal agency. The federal agencies have very stick laws regarding how you treat a federal employee. However, it is acceptable to let the counselor/consulate know what you feel, and how this AP has resulted in great difficulties for you and your family. You should say all of that in a professional and respectful language. If you do not know how use proper professional language, then it better to hire an attorney. (This is not specifically for you, but for everyone read this thread). You sound very professional in your post.
