Hello everyone. I had my interview last week but a decision couldn't be made because the IO did not have my files. Does anyone know why is that? has anyone experienced the same thing? if yes what was the outcome?

    thank you

    Interview for what?

If AOS I had missing documents and the IO needed to request it. If everything is fine then probably you will get approved, otherwise RFE. It took 3 weeks take or give after the interview to get the approval.

On September 15, USCIS was processing I-765 cases at NBC from April 04, 2019.

Today, September 21st, we're back to March 11, 2019 at NBC.

    This is infuriating.

Estimated processing times based on a pending I-485 AOS are now 4.5 Months to 6.5 Months.

Expect more delays as the fiscal year for the federal government reaches the end (September 30) and USCIS is ending overtime for its employees.

    Hang in there everyone.

Last year it took 5 months give or take to get my EAD.

Assuming a successful interview, I have read that the experiences of many VJ readers indicate an average of 3-5 business day turn around time for passports to be returned to the visa applicant. This is NOT an academic question.

What is your question? Academic or not....

    Hi All,

Struggling to find any info online - so creating my own thread. Some information like dates will be vague because I am sure they are following my every click :)

My wife (US) and I (UK) have been in the spouse visa CR1/IR1 process since June last year. After being together for years, we got married in Summer 2018, and applied for the visa straight away after weighing up fiancé vs. spouse visas with finance and work opportunity etc etc.

I have finally been sent a London interview date of October XX, 2019. While we are happy to be at this stage, I am actually very unfortunately unable to attend this appointment as I will not be in the UK at this time.

There are no options on the CSRA online portal to re-schedule this appointment, or even let them know I won't be able to make it. I called the embassy helpline on two occasions and spoke to two different people who told me to just miss the appointment and then I'll be able to re-schedule - but this sounds dangerous to my visa and potential future, and something I'd like to avoid at all costs.

Has anyone been through this before? Anyone know any inside scoop on this? I have been terrified of doing something wrong during every step in this process and now I am at risk of failing during the final stretch.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    unionmac

Not sure, but have you thought to be in the UK after all for the interview?

(I believe I posted this in the wrong section so I'm posting here):

    Hi,

I am the foreign beneficiary, and I am currently waiting for my K1 interview at the US embassy.

I went on the USCIS website and saw that it takes approximately 4-6 months to receive EAD and AP.

For those of you who waited that long to start working with your EAD, how did the long wait affect you as far as finding a job in your respective field goes?

    - Were companies reluctant to hire you because of the time gap in unemployment?

    - Was it harder for you to find a job in your respective field since you've been out of work for so long?

    - Would I be putting my career at risk by not having a job for that long when I go back on market to look for a job?

I work as an engineer.  I know I have a very valid reason that I can tell my future employer if they ask why I've been out of work for that long. But really, are they gonna care much? At the end of the day I know it's nothing personal. It's just business as usual.

Anyway, I would love to hear your stories as far as how waiting on the sidelines for 4-6 months made a difference (if any) with you being hired by a white collar job that you went to college for.

    Thanks.

Depending on how long did you work before.....

I mean if you have only a year of experience and out 4 to 6 months that might be a lot, so it depends on your own circumstances.

For me it was a nice break and  I've put it on my resume that now I have an EAD and don't need sponsorship, and in previous jobs instead of listing my last job I've put waiting for work permit. My recruiter told me to take that out. It came up at every interview, but they didn't care about it once I told them why I was not working.

In reality I had a really good time not working for a while. Had time to do other stuff outside of my field, travel, see the USA, explore my new city. Sure this depends on how much savings you have and if your spouse is OK with that or they expect you to sit home if you don't work and spend mostly noting.

In reality I had a really good time. Had time to do other stuff outside of my field, travel, see the USA, explore my new city. Initially I was stressed on not working, but made myself to do things every day so I would not be a couch potato. After getting my EAD I was again stressed out because now I can work and felt like that I should after not earning for 6 months.... I've got my EAD in December so had extra month and a half because most of the companies didn't hire til January/February, so all the interviewing started in the middle of January.

It had zero impact on my job search. I was looking, but didn't apply for anything because in my field they wanted to see work authorization first so I didn't want to send in my resume to be filtered out on the phone screening. Sure, keeping up to date with what is going on in your field is important....

Also the higher paying job you want it is going to take longer to get hired. The recruiting process was very very different from what I was used to. For me to deal with recruiters not employed by the company where I was applying was hard. I don't like middle men, but that is how it was for me. So it takes a lot of time (especially if you get your EAD in the beginning on December when nobody hires in my field), phone calls, doing preliminary phone screening than depending on the size of the company  1 to 4 interviews on site, getting offers, looking into benefits/salary. After accepting the offer background checks which can take up a week, drug test and such....

    - Were companies reluctant to hire you because of the time gap in unemployment?  Not in my case

    - Was it harder for you to find a job in your respective field since you've been out of work for so long? Not in my case

    - Would I be putting my career at risk by not having a job for that long when I go back on market to look for a job? That depends on your carrier, but I don't think so.

Usually they care about what you know and not the years you worked. Yeah I've been refused too, also refused position because just didn't feel right after the interview, felt like I don't want to work there. But at the end I've ended up at a place where I love to work. So don't be desperate, pace your interviews, so you would have time to learn from/reflect on the previous interview.

All this was possible because of a very supportive spouse who cared more for me to have a good job instead of jumping on the first offer and bring money home....

Hi! Soooo last May 2019 we received a letter from the USCIS stating that we are ready to be interviewed and they will just let us know when. It’s September now and we haven’t received any letter yet. Is there any way to expedite or to follow up with the process?

    Thank you!

It means that the National Benefits Center finish with your application and they were statisied that you submitted every necessary items and your sponsor mets the financial requirements.

Depending on your local office your wait can be anywhere from 3 months up to 20-25 months... Based on your zipcode you can find your local office's processing times.

reservations for the wedding, quotes from a wedding planner, etc.

DO NOT BOOK ANY WEDDING RESERVATIONS.

It is not required! Plus it is common knowledge that you should not do anything (give up rent, quit your job, etc) until your visa is in hand. Look on the forums how many ppl ended up pushing their big wedding because the visa didn't come on time for the big party....

Get married at a courthouse or pay an officiant and get married in a park or in your living room.

I’m not going to lie. The problem is Me and my fiancé is going to live at a persons place that might not want to tell her landlord that I live there because of apartment rules. That’s why I’m wondering.

I see. Unfortunately I can't help with that. Maybe somebody more experienced or somebody who have been in your situation can advise you....

I’m also wondering if they will look up that’s my actual address or if they just take my word for it?

Why are you making this harder as it is?

Do not lie on immigration papers because you are going to get kicked out and banned forever.

At the AOS interview they most likely want to see yours and your husbands driver's license/state id with the same address on them as a proof of living together, or lease or a signed letter from your landlord if you are going to live with his parents/relatives.

I’m sorry I don’t know how to do that. I got my k1 visa application approved and I’m about to travel to USA to get married to my fiancé. But I don’t know if I should change my address when I get there. I’m wondering if when I apply for green card if I have to be written on a address in USA.

    Congratulations.

Yes. You have to write your new US address first as current address and list your previous addresses from Sweden. Every correspondence from USCIS will go to your new US address including NOA1 from the AOS, later EAD card then greencard etc.

If you move after you filed your petition you must notify USCIS of your new address within 30 days. Also your husband (sponsor) need to notify USCIS of the move since he signed the affidavit of support.

    Hi guys

My fiancé does not meet the required income for a k1 visa however she has good assets value like she has a house and owns two cars. If we decide to declare the value of assets will that be ok for the CO at the interview to issue a visa and not reject me due to low income.

We have no co-sponsor to our case and don’t want to find anyone either.

    Please help...!!!

She wont be able to use the house as an asset if that is her primary residence. As far as I know.... The instructions are a bit weird on it but it says something similar that the asset has to be something that can be converted into cash within a year without hardship to the petitioner.... I might be wrong, so somebody pls correct me if that is the case.

Also the assets has to be five times the required amount...

Maybe it would be better to find a joint sponsor in your case.

I've finished my AOS interview earlier this week, and I think the interview went on well, but in the end our interview officer said, they couldn't find my original K1 file, it got split up with my AOS file so they couldn't make any decision yet, they'll request my K1 file send back to the local USCIS and then they would make decision, and will let us know if there's questions.

Has anybody met this kind of situation? How long does it usually take? I'm a bit afraid that they lost my original K1 documents...

    Appreciate your inputs, thanks.

    Hi

Had a similar situation at my AOS. The IO said after the interview that everything went well but she had a bad news. She didn't receive my medical and my K1 file so she needs to request it. It took 3 weeks after the interview to get the approval. Glad they found my file.... Ahh she said it would take a week tops to receive the files from storage or something similar...

    Hi Everyone,
My husband was approved for the oath ceremony last month following his citizenship interview. They told us it would take up to 2 months for him to receive the letter, and we're still within that time frame. However, as of Monday, I can no longer pull up his case status online. When I enter in the receipt number, we only see the image of "my" with the scrolling lines and no updates. Does USCIS close out online case status once they issue an oath letter, is this a bug, or should we be concerned?

    Thanks!

Maybe it is a system bug. Try it again on Monday afternoon and if it is still not working you can try to call USCIS next morning (to get to an agent faster) You also can try this page https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

Hi folks, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I'm trying to figure things out!

I noticed the affidavit of support that you have to take with you to the embassy for the K1 visa must have a "wet signature" - does that mean I have to ask my fiancé to fill the forms out, sign them and post them to me, or can he just scan his wet signed forms and send them via email? Anything that involves the post worries the heck out of me because you all know what our post system is like (I sent him passport photos in February and they took almost 3 weeks to arrive, I think they were held in customs?? like...they're photos...why? 😩) but if that's the way it must be done, so be it. If anyone could let me know I'd be very grateful! x

If you are not sure I would call/e-mail the embassy. It most likely depends on the embassy if they accept the scanned ones or they want it with "wet signature". When I went thru the process I called the embassy and they confirmed that a copy suffice.

    Good luck at your interview!

My fiancee will be arriving about November 20th, wedding is scheduled for Jan 18th, so we have about 30 days to mail in the I-485, I-765, etc...

Is 30 days enough just to get the "adjustment of status pending" status rolling? Or are we cutting it too close?

Should be fine. Just be sure that you can get your registered marriage license /certificate back in 30 days. Not sure where are you from, but remember reading it somewhere that in LA it might take a long time to register it.

    Please!!

you recommend me to apply the vaccines before the interview for the k1 visa or after when I am in the United States???

    Thankyou 😓

If you know that you need new vaccines for sure then do it before the medical in your country. Most likely it is much cheaper...

In the US you need to find an USCIS approved doctor + vaccination.

    I paid $180 for a MMR + preparing the I-693 last year
