  1. Hey Guys!!

I actually started a similar topic to this a couple of months ago and I've also done a ton of research, but I just need one last round of confirmation before I go ahead and book flights tonight LOL.

Back story - I'm originally from Scotland, immigrated here on a K1 visa in June 2018 and now I am a Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card Holder. It's been 1 year since I last saw my Dad in Scotland due to Covid (Gggrrr) and I just really need to get home and see my dad and family. I believe I will have no problem entering the U.K. because I am still a British Citizen? And I will also have no problem getting back into the U.S. again because I am an LPR? Can anyone confirm this?

I know I will have to quarantine in Scotland for 14 days therefore, I will be staying in Scotland for 15 days.

My next question - Can my American Husband travel with me to Scotland since he is my spouse?

I am going to book flights tonight for December 13th - December 28th!! Ahhhh so exciting! I will also be booking a busy route in order to ensure that I can definitely get on a flight! Thinking of flying JFK to Heathrow and then Heathrow to Glasgow.

  2. Hey Everyone!

I immigrated here on a K1 visa just over 2 years ago in June 2018. I now have my 2 year green card (I am 13 months into it). I have not been back to the UK since December 2019 due to Covid-19 and my Dad hasn't been able to visit me here in the states either. We have tried to be patient, but I don't want to spend Christmas without seeing my Dad! If airlines are starting to provide flights again, will I be able to travel to the UK in December and then be allowed back into the states again? Or will they not let me enter because I am not a citizen yet?

I know that nobody has answers right now and it's such an uncertain time!! Just looking for a little bit of guidance

We were approved July 1st. and only got email yesterday that card was mailed, hopefully today we will received the tracking number.

Have you even received email of card mailed?

card was mailed on June 28th. I received a tracking number last night

  4. Update : I got a tracking number from USPS last night. Last night at 9.30pm it said my card was on route from Knoxville, TN to Philadelphia. Then this morning at 8.11am I got another update saying that my card had arrived at the Philadelphia distribution center woohoo. We live about an hour north of Philly, so hopefully they'll send the card from philly to my local post office today and then tomorrow they'll deliver the card to me. Fingers crossed

  5. Thank you for all your help everyone. I am going to keep everything crossed that the green card arrives tomorrow morning. If it doesn't, I will call the number  800-375-5283 like @HRQX suggested. And worst case scenario, I will just travel back to Scotland and then re-enter into the US next week using my AP and hope that they let me talk to a CBP. The only thing is - I am entering through Dublin so that's where I will go through immigration...not sure if that makes a difference

    Do you have AP?

Yes I do have AP. But I believe it becomes invalid as soon as the green card is approved?

You could try to get a stamp...although you might face some resistance on their part...........another (riskier) option is to have a family member send the card to you.....worst case scenario, imo, is that you return to the US border with neither your card or a stamp.......even without the actual Green Card, you have status as a legal resident.  The card is just evidence of that status........

Okay I guess I'll just go down there on Wednesday morning if i don't have it yet and hope that someone is nice enough to give me a stamp lol

  7. Hey Guys!

I mentioned this in a recent post, but I booked a trip back home to Scotland months ago and then my green card interview was scheduled. I had my interview and my green card was finally approved last week YAY! Then on Friday, July 5th my Green Card was mailed to me! I haven't received the card in the mail yet as it's only been a few days but I travel to Scotland on the evening of Thursday July 11th - 3 days from now. If my Green card doesn't arrive tomorrow morning, i want to schedule an infopass appointment in Philadelphia for Wednesday or Thursday Morning so I can try and get a stamp in my passport. It's really difficult to get an infopass appointment at philly field office...any suggestions??

  8. For anyone who is interested - I called USCIS last week and asked what would happen if I go to scotland in 3 weeks with my AP card and then when I'm in scotland, my green card changes to approved...can I then fly back into america with my AP card. The officer (they said they were an officer) on the phone said that even if my Green Card is approved, I can still use my AP to get back into America as long as it's still valid...so i think i should be fine

  9. Hey Everyone,

I had my Green Card interview yesterday and it was pretty tough!! The officer was actually super nice and I wouldn't say it was a 'bad' interview, it was just pretty long with lotssssss of questions. We were in there for over an hour. I'll give you an example of one of the questions he asked. He asked what my room number of my dorm was when i studied abroad at an American University for 2 semesters in 2014-15 and i said 'oh gosh i can't remember. i was on the 2nd floor but I don't remember the exact room number. Also, I moved room between both semesters'...he seemed pretty concerned that I couldn't remember my room number, so he said he was going to have to spend some time trying to look it up. Anyways, that's kind of besides the point. Towards the end of the interview he asked for some evidence of our marriage, so we gave him Joint bank account, Life insurance, health insurance, phone bill, gym membership, wedding cards, wedding invitation and photos from our wedding. He asked for more photos of our relationship that wasn't just the wedding, so I told him that I didn't print any because I included those photos with the K1 visa. He basically said that he might send us an RFE for more photos of our relationship but he also might not because he is pretty certain that our relationship is legit. He said within 2 weeks I will either get an approval notice or an RFE for more photos. It was a little disheartening because, to be honest, this whole process has been fairly smooth sailing for us and we've never received any RFEs...but if he wants more photos, I can absolutely send him more photos!!

SO now comes the main question lol....a while ago (before I knew about my interview) my husband and I booked up to fly to scotland for 5 days using my AP card. we are flying to scotland on July 11th (roughly 4 weeks from now) If my Green Card isn't approved before then, can i still fly to scotland using my current AP card?? \

    Thank you!!

  10. Hey Guys!

I moved to the US last June from the UK on a K1 visa, I got married in July and then received my expedited EAD/AP combo card In early September. I am still waiting on my Green Card Interview so last month I requested to renew my EAD/AP and I received the NOA1 for that. Philadelphia field office is pretty slow I think, so I could still be waiting another while on the Green Card interview.

My husband and I have been living with his parents for the last 10 months but now that I have been working for the last 3 months we are finally ready to move out and buy a house. My husband and I both have decent jobs and earn decent money but I earn a bit more money than him so we want the mortgage to be joint and not just in his name. I have also started building credit in the US. Will this be possible for me to be on the loan while I am still waiting on my Green Card?

    thanks!!

It will take a while. Processing times for the I824 are 3.5 to 10 months.

If it takes too long you won't be able to work or leave and return to the US. Hopefully you get your GC interview by then.

Let's hope I get my GC interview very soon then....

To be completely honest, I'm not sure I ever even got my NOA1 for I-485 sent to me in the mail

Quickly? No. You'll have to apply for a new one. It costs $465.

File your renewal anyways without the receipt notice. That may get you an RFE but you'll be able to delay more while you wait for the receipt notice.

Okay, thanks for sending the link for me to apply for a new one. $465 sucks but it's my fault for losing it in the first place!

If it takes a while for me to receive the new NOA1 for the I-485 and I do get the RFE for not providing it in the renewal package, is there a possibility that I won't be able to renew my EAD/AP in time and I'll have to quit my job and also stop traveling out of the US?

  13. Hi,

My EAD/AP runs out on August 28th so I was starting the renewal process today and planning to send everything by tomorrow or the next day. However, as I've been doing all the paperwork I've discovered that I've lost NOA1 for the I-485 and I need this for the renewal (and yes, I've 100% lost it). I need to send the renewal stuff by the end of this week because it's now 6 months until my EAD/AP runs out, can anyone please tell me how I can get another NOA1 for I-485 quickly???

    Thank you in advance!!

Unfortunately I have the same issue..my dad was diagnosed with cancer recently and I am trying to get an expedited EAD\AP. How did you go about this.  Like did you carry additional documents showing the diagnosis and so on?

i went to my local field office and they applied for the expedite for me! did you get it sorted out?
