PhotoJ89 got a reaction from Vabsmith in Brazil - K1 interview - Petitioner needs to be present?
Hey there. I ended up just going to "pick her up". I did not go to the interview, but everything went smoothly. She received her passport with the visa in it 6 business days after the interview. She fiancee lives 3 hours by air from Rio, so she stayed there for the medical the week before, through the interview. Each extra night there was another night away from home/hotel costs, so she just wanted to get home and have the passport sent to her.

We just arrived back to my home in California yesterday. Point of entry was in Houston, it only took 10-15 minutes longer than "normal" immigration at the airport, but this was at 5 am and there were only a few other arriving flights at the time - we basically arrived right when immigration opened, so YMMV at different airports/times. Logistically it's actually quite difficult to get down there (without much notice, and in a fairly short time frame of dates) and return on the same flights without paying an obscene amount, at least for our cities involved. Best of luck to you. Let me know if you have any other questions.

If I am not mistaken you put 1 for how many times you've been married, if you just got married and that's the only marriage so far. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this one. I agree that it's all unclear. You have no idea how many times I've read my forms before submitting it. Good luck on your case. 😊

PhotoJ89 reacted to Rsul96 in Form I-864 Part 5, item 8. I am married, but my wife is the beneficiary, and only sponsored immigrant?
So, I'm currently filling out form I-864 and I get to Part 5. Item 1 asks how many immigrants I am sponsoring in total, and the total is 1 (My wife).

Then I get to item number 3 and it asks if I am married, to put 1 to include my spouse. However, my spouse is the person being sponsored, and is not yet a part of my household size... What should I put here?

If I put 1, the total household size results in 3, which would be completely inaccurate. It'd be my wife and I (2). Nobody else. Unless for some reason it is designed this way to make it 3, but that seems so bizarre I kinda ruled that out. Perhaps prematurely?

So, someone from the USCIS misinformation line told you all of this, plus recommended a company and their rate for you to post here? Interesting, and not fishy sounding at all from someone that just joined today only to post on this 6 year old thread.
Show me the cases of people that have received RFEs for following the USCIS's own instructions and translating the documents themselves, or having friends or family do it? Where are all the slowed-down cases? Plenty of people have successfully followed the USCIS's guidelines for translations over the years, so surely there are links to those that have not been as successful. I just perhaps have missed them all. You can show me my 6 years of oversight, yes?
Here it is from the USCIS site. Nowhere does it state you must pay a third party translator. > https://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-and-fees/general-tips-assembling-applications-mailing
Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.
The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:
    Certification by Translator
I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and [enter appropriate language] languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled [enter title of document].
    Signature
    Typed Name
    Address
    Date

Just wanted to chime in since I haven't visited this thread in a while. Our K1 interview is scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro. I am super nervous and excited, it's starting to get very real. If everything goes well at the interview, it will be just over 5 months from initial filing of I-129F to POE... not too bad considering the horrendous wait times for NOA2. Good luck everyone!

Thanks for all the contributions here. I'd like to revive this thread and see if there are any recent Brazilian beneficiaries/petitioners of Brazilian beneficiaries who have any new tips to add for 2016/2017.

Just received our NOA2. My fiancée is in Maceió. Just wanted to see if there are any new tips/tricks to watch out for.

    Thanks in advance.

I think there's a difference between knowing 3 - 5 months (communicated up front) and accepting it. for me, a 3 - 5 month waiting period is simply unacceptable. I have worked for 25 years now, paying in hundreds of thousands in taxes and other services on top of the fee I paid. Then my reward is an f* you, you sit in the dark and wait for months with no idea if you will ever see your loved one again. I alternate out between humor and rage over the matter most of the time, trying to balance out so I don't hurt someone.

Then I can't stand inefficiency in general. So the US government and its fractal systems of inefficiency are very hard to cope with, immigration aside. When I see others who are content with it all, it just makes me angry and likely takes years off my life.
