My wife had her aos interview yesterday at the Detroit, Michigan office after only waiting 5 months since filing for aos. They seem to have a very efficient office there. It went smoothly and the lady was very nice and patient and explaining to my wife what she didn’t understand. They didn’t split us up, I was there the whole time. Looked at our case status today and saw this. We are so thankful!

Some USCIS field offices are faster than others. What is your local office? Not the Chicago lockbox you filed at, but the nearest USCIS Field Office to you.

The Detroit, Michigan field office.

we received a similar notice: "your interview is ready to be scheduled", but nothing has happened still. Our local field office is backed up I believe to who know when. It only has been there since March 2017. Basically a new local office with personnel not up to speed and a huge backlog
Wow, sorry to hear that. I hope it gets resolved soon.

Be happy, it happens. Did you come to the US on a k-1? Good luck also
Yes, my wife came here on a K-1 Visa last October. Thanks.

We applied for the I485 along with the EAD in the middle of March. Yesterday, only 4 months later, we get the notice for the interview. Checked the USCIS Status online and yep, status is 'interview scheduled'. The interview is a month from now. We filed at the Chicago office. We haven't even received the EAD yet which you're supposed to get first. Is this normal? I thought they were taking a lot longer than that. I mean, we're excited, but it seems so soon to get it, just wanted to see if anyone else had that happen to them.

All I know is that Michigan wants to see a green card before giving you a license and yet you can get a license in California as an illegal alien. Go figure.

I just filed for AOS a few days ago and we got married back in November. Just got wiped out financially by Christmas and other things and just now got the money to file. Everything I read said it was no big deal if I-94 had expired. Yes, my wife is out of status but you're legally able to stay while awaiting a green card on a K1 visa. It's a good idea to keep your passport along with your AOS NOA1 and a copy of your marriage certificate with you close by in the very unlikely event immigration asks you for identification. The K1 visa page in your passport along with the marriage license and AOS NOA1 should be enough to convince an I.O. you are here legally.

Point of Entry photo. She arrived a couple hours ago at Detroit Metro airport from Bangkok. She said immigration was very cool to her. They even joked with her which surprised me. She's exhausted as you can see. I feel very blessed to have my love here with me. Thanks to visajourney and all of you that have answered questions for me. I hope you all have this same experience soon.

Thailand is not considered a hard embassay to get a k1 from. It's normal there for young woman to date older men. Unfortunately an older woman getting scammed from a younger Muslim man is quite common.
Maybe not as hard as the scenario you mentioned, but definitely not a piece of cake. I know 2 couples that got denied. It's a highly fraudulent immigration country. I've done a ton of research the last 2 years. Many bar girls try to scam unknowing westerners to the US. A regular Thai girl can't even get a tourist visa here. I maintain that if you do your work and present a good case with evidence you can overcome the preconceived assumption that immigration has that you're a scammer.

My fiancé is 18 years younger than I am (she's 38 and I'm 56). She's also from a high immigration fraud country (Thailand) and we were approved easily. We did, however, have a lot of time together along with the evidence over a 2 year period. It's all about convincing the Immigration officers that you have a bonafide relationship. If you do, it should be relatively easy to see when they go through your visa application. Good luck.

You live in Michigan I take it from your profile so you don't know. But down on the SW border there are CBP checkpoints on major highways in land and away from the border. They will make you stop and question you no matter who you are, and I know that from personal experience.
So it is ALWAYS better to have what you need no matter what.
Makes sense with illegal crossings in the south. Yes I'm from Michigan. Never see that here or really anywhere I guess except where you're talking about. But if it happens, they better be prepared.

I'm getting our application together at the moment, and this worries me - there's the "long" story of how we met (ie: why he was in Australia, the mutual friend that caused us to meet, etc) or the "short" story which is just as accurate - we met at the pub one night, had a one night stand that turned into him moving in with me a week later.
I'm considering going with the short version on the form with a "please see attachment XX for further information" and outlay the whole thing.I went with the long story. It was three pages full single spaced. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If there is a crime in the background then they may not be able to get the visa. My girl has a friend from Thailand who tried to come here but could not because of her police record. They told her she can never come here. Ever.
-
There's no nobody sitting at the state border waiting to check your status. You can just drive between states without a problem. Unless you have a police contact, there will never be a need to show your ID. But like someone said, getting a state ID card is a good way to go here in your situation.

I believe that using a tourist visa to get married while you're here in considered immigration fraud. They want you to use the K-1 process so they get all their fees and money. A tourist visa is meant for visiting, not marrying.
-
They want to know how you INITIALLY met in that section. Not all the meetings you had. But make sure you detail exactly how it came about that you met. No time to be ambiguous here.

My girl got her interview this morning in Bangkok and was approved! I bought her a plane ticket for October 15th. She wants to visit with her mom before she comes. I'm so happy! I hope everyone's turns out like mine. Thank you visajourney for helping us along this path! ❤️

"Since where she was working is not ideal for anyone"
You didn't meet her in a bar, did you? Was she a bar girl? You know that bar girl means prostitute, right? If she was, all I can say is do some research about guys marrying Thai bar girls before you start this process. I know you think this girl is different but trust me, just do some research.
Just check out "An American in Bangkok" (Scott Mallon) on youtube. He gets letters from guys like you all the time and has some good advice. Just looking out for you, bro. You'll thank me someday. Or wish you'd listened. One or the other. Good luck whatever you decide.

It's actually just crazy enough that they'll probably believe it. Who would make up something like that? lol Good luck.

Where to file I-751
in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Posted
I was following the "Removing conditions (I-751) on US permanent residency step-by-step guide" and it said that your documents are to be mailed to either the USCIS California or Vermont Service Centers and it gave a link (click here to see a filing location for your state). If you go to that link and click on "where to file" it shows that depending on your state you should mail your application to either Phoenix, AZ or Dallas, TX. NOT California or Vermont as stated in the step-by-step guide. It must be the page has not been updated to the current information. I only post this because it was a bit confusing to see the differing information. Yes, logic and common sense says to mail it where the official USCIS page says to mail it and I did that. Just thinking maybe the step-by-step guide page needs to be updated to reflect the change so as not to be so ambiguous, when really, it's all a little confusing anyway and we can use less ambiguity in the process, even a little bit.
