  1. They (Embassy) usually say that they do not generally look at documents, nor do they require you to present any to them, however, since the whole process is really their game, and their rules, you just have to be ready for whatever you think paperwork would best help your specific case, if need be that the CO asks for them. Originals of certain documents would certainly help, also since each embassy has their own "unique characteristic" I would also check on forums specific to Canada just to see what documents may be pertinent to aid your case... best of luck! :)

  2. you have to set that online @ http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-appointmentschedule.asp

just be corteous, honest with your responses, I believe it is in the manner on how you articulate your ties to the CO, since more often than not do they look at evidences at hand. You have a strong case, I feel, but since you are female and single there is a big possibility for you to fall under a certain profile in their "protocol"..

I totally get you. I am going through the same emotional process, although I don't have a job yet. But since I got my EAD, I've gone from bored to stressed. Like you said, I feel like I've gotten used to staying at home these past 7 months, and although at first it was hard not to work, now I feel like I am scared of working again, specially in a new country, new customs, different language. I also have social anxiety, and I feel like I'm not ready for the huge change. When I first arrived here I would have started wroking straightaway! But now, after 7 months of staying home, I feel like I've gotten even more introverted than usual and I am honestly not lookign forward to leaving my shell. It's so frustrating. lol

Oh my it was like seeing my own thoughts there lol... geez... On one side it is pressuring because you know that you need to work, earn a living and be productive - help out. But on the other hand like what you've said it's like I've gotten used to this that this is normal for me now.. (being the "houseband" for the past few months)

  4. hey y'all!

Hope you had an awesome 4th of July!

Feeling "fresh meat", will be starting work in a couple of weeks. I feel like I've somehow become used to staying at home for the past half year waiting for my papers and all, that I'm not used to dealing and meeting with new people let alone be in a new environment. Don't get me wrong, I feel lucky (blessed, ecstatic) to have a job just a month after getting my green card but I feel so freakin nervous (have social phobia). There were times that I felt bored, sad during the "wait" period these past months but now that everything seems to be falling into place I feel like I'm not ready yet. lol.  Anyone who was, or is in the same boat? haha

  5. the others said it best and I would just like to add that even though the wait might seem long at times, just sit back and enjoy the ride.. my wife and I were having a talk the other night just how it felt like yesterday it was new year's eve and now it's mid 2017. you never know it but  one day you get your cards and all and now a whole new ballgame exists. Just appreciate the "stall" because when work starts the next thing y'all be thinking is "when can I have that vacation?"

My fiance and I are in the process of applying for the K1. One of the things I love about him is that he is extremely optimistic. Nothing about this whole process worries him! However, I am the realist (he says borderline pessimist haha) and realize that there will be challenges ahead. He is from India, currently living in Delhi, but has never traveled to the US.

What are some things that will be challenging when he arrives? Culture? Language? His English is incredible (better than mine) but there are things that I know he will have a hard time understanding. Anything else?

I've seen a few posts about how to help the adjustment - but other than those initial, practical things can I do to help him, i.e. emotional adjustments?

    Thanks everyone!

I share your fiancé's optimism and I can relate to what you are experiencing now.. Having been in the US on multiple instances I thought I had a good understanding of what it was like to be here, but being here-"living" is very much different from a vacation. Waiting is a popular word with the K1, and even if I was totally psyched before coming here actually being in the moment is still different, so there might be times where he will draw his strength from you- :)

  7. Hello VJers!

I am thinking of getting a medical insurance since my wife recently filed for her tax return and she was advised to get me medical coverage. She was supposed to enroll me in her plan when we got married last November but the thing is, the premium would significantly increase. I heard about short-term insurance plans but I read something about those not being subject to the ACA (affordable care act), so I don't think they would count as valid medical coverage that would help in next year's tax return filing. The tax advisor said that we would incur a fine monthly for each month that I was without coverage, and quite frankly that worries us.

Anyone with the same experience? Is it possible for me to obtain health insurance while on AOS? and if yes, what are my options? We didn't know there was a bearing for this issue when it comes to tax filing :(

Ask them if they can run your unexpired foreign passport as the document of choice in their list and have them scan in all relevant pages of it, your expired or unexpired i-94, marriage license if you're the female and changing name, SSC and NOA1. I'm not from NC but I was in your situation in Texas, with the i-797 being on the website. I didn't expect it to go through cause I had been told I had to wait for the EAD from ppl here on VJ, other websites and by a lady at the dmv. I got the letter a week later that "lawful presence is verified". Went back did my tests and got my license. I don't have a "date" on any document and my i-94 was expired. The dmv gave me 1 year on the license. I have seen the same for VJ'ers in some other states but I'm not sure if NC was one of them. They all verify against the same federal database... so imo it's worth a shot if they'll agree to run your papers.

I just got my license today :) Good luck to you!

    Appreciate the suggestion!

apparently they looked unsure of whether or not my unexpired passport, expired I94 and NOA1 were acceptable documents at the time-they kept on referring my papers to one another saying my stamp was already invalid as it expired 01/24. Might try in a different DMV location instead. I guess I did not want to risk arguing with them lol

  9. @Ahmed & Amy , thanks for the suggestions- we are familiar with the Stella Di Mare Hotel as my relatives stayed there when they visited a few years ago. the whole country spells h-I-s-t-o-r-I-c.

@Mehdi-T, awesome ideas!! We have seen Tangier and Marrakech in a travel documentary before and want to try cooking in tajine :) both lovers of tea and coffee too!

@Inluv, the train system sounds promising, at least we would not have to worry much about getting around I guess..

are the locals able to speak in English? I know Morocco is a francophone country, is Egypt one too?

Ben&Zian, thanks for reminding me-have to check on that too beforehand..
