Congratulations and amazing this worked for you.

I tired to submit a request too online but the system says that my case is within the normal processing time :( did you request the expedite online?

    wishing all good luck!

Thank you! No I just submitted a case inquiry saying it was outside normal processing times, I got an email the next day that it was still in line to be reviewed. I hope you hear soon!

  2. Hey everyone, I submitted an inquiry on 10/13/2020 stating my case was outside normal processing time (it is NOT, I filed July 1, 2020, Potomac Service Center) but I hoped it would bring attention to my case. It must have worked because I got notice my case was approved as of 11/04/2020 and received my 10 year LPR card in the mail today! My interview was waived so the only interview I ever attended was the initial K1 interview in my home country, I did biometrics October 2019. Hopefully everyone here’s something soon!

That's great news. Congrats! I hope things move along. We are early July filers and also had fingerprints in November, and our case is in Potomac. Nothing has moved for us, but I hope this is a good sign.

I am in the same boat Ally! I did my biometrics at the end of October last year and haven’t heard anything since. On October 13 I sent a request based on case being outside processing time (which isn’t technically true but I hoped it would give me information about what’s happening) and I got a response on October 14 saying it is in line still to be reviewed by an officer. Potomac updated their processing time to 16-19 months and we are in month 16 so hopefully we hear something soon

It was pretty easy to renew but as yours is a new application it's a bit different.  You can do the "in lieu of guarantor" since finding a Canadian passport holder who knows you in the USA is difficult.

I agree that you should use someone off the travel.gc.ca list.  I did and my pictures were accepted.  The company actually guaranteed they'd be acceptable or else they'd retake them for free.  Since it cost me about $45 (or more I don't remember exactly as I got a 10 year card) I was happy about that aspect.

Are you able to attach a link for the travel.gc.ca list? I’ve looked for it and can’t find a list on their website...

You can get a photo taken from a photo shop or professional photographer. You can even do it yourself as long as it meets the requirements. I had my son's Canadian passport photo taken at a photo shop (I brought in the paper that had the specifications but they said they do it all the time and knew what to do). I mailed a friend the guarantor paperwork, they filled it out and mailed it back to me.

Keep in mind that if you are changing your name, it won't be a renewal. It will be a new application.

Thank you for your advice! I appreciate the assistance very much.

  6. Hey VJers,

I am currently going through the Removal of Conditions process from a K1 visa, I sent my application last July and have the 18 month extension letter.

My Canadian passport expires in July and I had plans to go there this week to file for a new passport in my married name and visit with my family but my travel plans were cancelled due to Covid-19.

Does any Canadian who is currently living as an immigrant in the USA know how I can go about renewing my passport from abroad? I know I can mail in the application but I am unsure of where to get the photo taken because they have different standards than the USA and I don’t have a guarantor here.

Any advice on how to proceed would be very much appreciated!

    Thank you!

    Hello everyone!

I filed mine on second week of July, and my current case status is Fingerprints were Taken.

    Timeline:

July 9: send package to Texas

    July 16: Notice/extension letter

    October: biometric appointment scheduled

    November 13: Biometric appointment

November 18: fingerprints are processed and package send to YSC center

December 13: show fingerprints were taken

As of today Jan 14 nothing is updated, and YSC Potomac is my service center.

anyone with YSC got any updates lately?

I had my biometrics done at the end of October, my service center is also YSC. I have not heard anything since.

  8. [Potomac Service Center] I also completed my Biometrics yesterday (October 25th) at my local office in Dover, Delaware and within a couple hours my tracking info updated to fingerprint review completed. The office was just under an hour and a half from my house, my husband went with me. I arrived a half hour early and was the only one there, the gentleman took me back immediately. He took my photo, took 2 fingerprints and sent me on my way. I was there less than 5 minutes. Now we sit and wait to be approved.

Awesome news! Thanks for sharing. My case has been sent out 07/05 and received 07/13 Potomac office. Hoping and expecting to getting mine soon.

Also did they update case status on website or it is still saying "case received"?

    Thank you

It is still saying "Case Received" at this point, I am anticipating it will update shortly after I do my biometrics

Awesome!! Thanks for sharing. Mine has been there since 7/1/19. I travelled out of state. Will ask hubby to keep an eye out in case mine comes in too.

I signed up for the USPS informed delivery service a while back and haven't actually checked my mail the past few days, especially because I honestly wasn't expecting to hear anything for a few more months so I haven't been getting my hopes up about getting a letter from them. I was laying in bed this morning and pulled up the app to see if I had incoming mail and it showed the letter was delivered on Saturday. I legitimately ran to my mailbox, I barely had time to put pants on lol - I hope you receive yours soon! My bio appt is in less than two weeks, if you did receive one I hope you'll make it back in time! But you can always reschedule too if you have to

  11. My husband and I have been married for 2 1/2 years but we have been struggling lately and I fear he may push for divorce. I am hoping we can work toward reconciliation and attend counseling sessions together because I love him more than anything and don’t want to lose him however, if he has his mind made up I won’t have a choice.

We submitted our ROC paperwork 7/1/19 so obviously it will be pending for a while however, I was wondering what the ramifications of abandoning the application would be? If my marriage fails here, I am going to return to Canada. I was wondering how it will affect my future travels to the USA if I ever want to go on family vacations or anything? Does anyone know? Can I cancel my application and tell them I am getting a divorce and returning to Canada?

I am terrified, I am alone and I am afraid I am going to lose the love of my life. I am hoping that in losing him (and the first home we recently purchased, our cars and our four cats) I don’t also lose the right to travel to the USA.

And to answer anyone’s questions in advance... Without him, I am not interested in US residency or citizenship. If he leaves me I do not want to continue the immigration process. I went through this for him and without him it means nothing.

Another fellow Canadian. Just an FYI, being married for 2 years has nothing to do with the initial temp GC. I was married in October 2015. I applied for adjustment of status in December and had my biometrics done in January. I received a RFI in July of 2016. Then nothing. I finally called my state rep when no one could answer my question as to where my case was, in April of 2017. I finally got an appointment for an interview in March. That day the roads in Pennsylvania were closed because of a massive snowstorm. I phoned and was told everything was okay and I would get a letter with a new appointment date. That came in July 2017 and it was for September. SO...lol...I still only received a conditional 2 year green card, even after all of that. Someone at USCIS suggested that my file got 'lost'. I figure it fell down behind someones desk, after what I saw at our interview. :)

I think you quoted me and not the original poster :)

However, I think that if you submit your paperwork within the first two years of marriage than you will be given a temporary green card no matter when it is issued (even if you receive it after your two years of marriage), if you apply after two years of marriage or you enter already married than you receive a 10 year one. I believe this is the case because the "conditions" of the green card is that you remain married for two years and in those situations the paperwork is submitted after those conditions are met. In your case, your paperwork was submitted during the two years so based on that you hadn't satisfied the conditions.

Hi everyone - i technically dont "belong" to this group but just had a few questions as we had our I-485 interview today!

Trying to be with the positive mindset so the GC I will receive will be conditional as we have not yet been married for 2 years. From the research I did, we have to file our I-751 during the 90 day period in advance of the GC's 2 year expiration. But i assume we dont get approved and our new 10-year GC before actual expiration so what do we use to legitimize our ability to work, or if we are traveling abroad to come back in? Do we have to get our foreign passports stamped with something or travel with our NOA1? Also -- not sure how long it is taking to get the 10-year GC's after filing the I-751 but for those who want to move forward with citizenship/naturalization in the future, and for those who obtained their GC from marriage -- could our naturalization application overlap with us waiting for the i-751 to get approved? Just figured i'd ask so i know whats coming my way even though it is somewhat far away :)

    Fellow Canadian here :D

You are correct that you have to apply within the 90 days, not a day sooner! The previous poster is correct, you're NOA1 that you receive typically within 30 days of filing will serve as an 18 month extension letter than is your proof of status which allows you to work and travel. My green card just expired while I was traveling home to Canada to see family and I had no issues with entering the States using my NOA1 and my green card, in addition to my Canadian passport (which still has my maiden name on it and I don't intend to change it until it expires next fall so I also provided our Marriage License to validate the name change). The wait time looks like it's around a 12-18 months but the actual wait time really depends what service center your paperwork is forwarded to.

  14. 1 minute ago, Vito Daniel said:

Agree! I also called USCIS a week ago and informed them that I have not received my biometrics, lady on the phone submitted from my behalf service request, and told me to wait about a month. If I wont receive it - call back and provide confirmation number. Will see :)

Definitely keep me posted with what happens! I am not worrying about it too much at this point so I don't think I will call yet but if you get somewhere through calling let us know! :)

Same here guys. Docs received in Texas In the begging of July, couple weeks after got extension letter. Still waiting on Biometrics. Also Potomac

Hopefully we hear something soon although it will all come in time! :D This is the easy waiting part, because at least we are here with our loves and aren't struggling through the long distance too!

Nobody knows anything about Potomac filers ? My docs were received in TX on the 1st of July, got my NOA with extension on the 5th of July. Haven’t heard anything yet since then. Not really bothered but would be thrilled to see more updates from YSC filers.

I have the same timeline - Docs received in Tx July 1st, received the extension letter shortly after. My file is also in Potomac with no word on Biometrics. I know it will come in time

    Does this happen to anyone?

Yesterday I was able to check the case status on the old website, it showed "Biometric review was complete". This morning I check again and it does not show anything except this:

    1.JPG

I tried to check my case status multiple times yesterday and it showed that every time. I have not received biometrics appointment letter yet (Potomac Service Center, my received date was 7/1/19 but I don't think anyone has gotten their bio yet from Potomac) so it should have just said the standard "Case was received"

Unrelated to this at all, but do you guys carry your green card with you everywhere? I've been told that I have to but now that it's expired, I'm not sure if I want to also carry that extension letter with me everywhere I go cuz I tend to lose things all the time lol

Legally you are required to carry your green card on you and will also be required to carry the extension letter, you should also continue to carry the expired green card because it has your photo on the card and biometrics. Per the USCIS website: " If you are a permanent resident age 18 or older, you are required to have a valid Green Card in your possession at all times." Which extends to any document proving your LPR status.

This is governed by Sections 264(e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act which states: "Every alien, eighteen years of age and over, shall at all times carry with him and have in his personal possession any certificate of alien registration or alien registration receipt card issued to him pursuant to subsection (d). Any alien who fails to comply with the provisions of this subsection shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall upon conviction for each offense be fined not to exceed $100 or be imprisoned not more than thirty days, or both."

I got this nice information post from the March 2019 ROC thread (quoted from vkbruh1114) and I agree with you that we should indicate what service center our application was routed to. Some March filers have gotten biometrics but no movement yet, some had interview schedules already last June and July, so this will serve as a good tracker depending on our service centers.

Mine is in California Service Center too, WAC.

“Just to summarize based on responses by Service centers: please correct me if I'm wrong

Vermont Service Center (EAC) - Biometrics done for most but no movement after that

National Benefits Center (MSC) - Most people have for interview requests already (within 2 months of submission?)

Texas Service Center (SRC) - Most people have not heard anything since submission, not even bio-metrics request (from my experience, SRC uses old bio-metrics so you guys should not worry)

California Service Center (WAC) - I've not heard many people submitted from WAC here, please respond whats the latest if your application went here.

Potomac Service Center (YSC) - I've not heard many people submitted from YSC here, please respond whats the latest if your application went here.

I recently saw an update on workload transfers by USCIS: https://www.uscis.gov/workload-transfers

They have moved a lot of Vermont I-751 cases to Potomac Service center, have a look.”

My case is being processed at the Potomac Service Center. I sent my case June 30th, received by USCIS on July 1, I got my NOA on July 11 which was dated July 5. No word yet on Biometrics or anything else yet. I will certainly keep everyone posted, especially for those being processed through Potomac around the same time as me!!
