Did you have to ask for a translator ahead of time or did they just ask at the time of the interview?  We are waiting on approval and interview scheduled but we would like to know if we need to call when we do get an appointment to ask for an interpreter ahead of time or if we need to bring our own.  My husband would need it as he is still learning English and we want to make sure the questions and answers are understood correctly.  Thanks!

We did not ask for the interpreter, the officer decided my wife needed one and provided the service. I am not sure if this is standard practice or not. They will not let you be the interpreter. I would imagine it would depend on the officer you get as the government is not required to provide the service. I would bring an interpreter with me to be safe.

  2. We had our AOS interview today in New Orleans. The interview was pleasant. They provided my wife an interpreter via phone conference. They asked her general questions verifying the answers in the application. They did ask if she has ever collected assistance from a government agency. They asked me, the petitioner, how we met. I explained how we met, my visits, and when we decided to get engaged. The only documents they asked for was my 2018 w2 and my 2018 Fed Tax Return. I know they already had it, I have seen other on here being asked for it. I think they just want to see if you followed the instructions on the notice. The last thing she asked was if there was anything else I wanted to provide to her. I provide her with the proof of relationship evidence we had brought. Pictures, utility bills, bank statements and our health plan. She told us that she saw no problems and we should be approved. If she needed more we would be notified. At 2:00pm our status went to in review. After 5:00pm status changed to card ordered. Good luck !

Has anyone received an actual email

from the consulate stating they have received your case and it’s ready for processing?  Do some people get them

    and some don’t ?

I did not receive the email. I sent an inquiry via email to the embassy and they replied with the email two days later.

The people I see do not realise that the simple bit if form filling and that unless there is something weird about their situation paying for somebody to do it is both a waste of time, delay and error potential.

Those with issues need a Lawyer not a form filler.

I disagree. But that’s ok, everybody has an opinion. And I offered mine. It’s good for others to see different opinions so they can make up their own mind. That’s the wonderful thing about America, everyone is free to think and express their views as they wish. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford the luxury of having someone else do it and don’t mind paying the money to simplify my life.

OP, all embassies are different in what they require to be satisfied that the relationship is bona fide. In most Western European embassies, you would not be expected to bring a boxful of evidence of an ongoing relationship but less economically advanced countries require a lot more. This is where the country-specific sections of this forum are very useful so that you can read the experiences of people who have gone before you at the same embassy.

Unfortunately, there has been a higher-than-average rate of K-1 fraud at the embassies in India and so they are very meticulous in making sure that the relationship is bona fide and that you are both single. There have been many cases (not saying this applies to you or anyone on this forum) in India where the couple is already married and using the K-1 to get to the USA quicker than a CR-1. Previously the time difference between K-1 and CR-1 was much bigger - I did a CR-1 in 2016 and it took 10 months 1 day from sending the I-130 to my interview but K-1s were getting through the entire process in 3 months or less. There have also been many cases in India where someone marries a USC in order to immigrate and once they have their GC they divorce and marry a previous partner (often re-marrying someone they divorced shortly before marrying the USC) from India and petition for them. Because of the actions of previous applicants, it’s unfortunate that you have to jump through so many hoops.

    Good luck.

Agree, that they are not qualified to give advice. People need to do their own due diligence to understand the process before applying. And yes , you can find the information here and do it yourself. But I see a lot of people one here that should have used a company like RV. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.

Rapidvisa is a BS company. All the information in this group is much more valuable if you do your home work here. Btw, just submit what the CO want and everything will be fine.

Rapid visa is not a BS company. I think people set their expectations too high for companies like this. Rapid Visa is not a leagal form, nor do they claim to be. Rapid visa helps assemble the I29f and creates a very handy worksheet to use to fill out the DS160. Their software makes the process much simpler. The accuracy of the petition is is the responsibility of the petitioner, not Rapid Visa. I’ve used them on four separate occasions successfully and will use them again in the future. From my experience they have delivered exactly what they promised each time.

  8. I do agree with the sales tactics and hype. But I must say, due to the amount of RFE's I have seen on this site, I would recommend at least considering a reputable firm to help with the package. I have been using a firm for several years for various things such as visa expedites, passport expedites and also the same firm for two K1 applications which were both approved with no RFE's. Unfortunately, the first one didn't work out. I have seen several lawyers even screw up applications on here. I chose to use the firm here recently because of todays environment with longer wait times higher scrutiny of the applications. Sure, I could have done it on my own, but I could afford to pay the couple hundred bucks and it gave me peace of mind that a third party reviewed it for errors and missing documents before it reached USCIS. They also organize the application in a way USCIS likes to see it. I am not saying everyone should do it, I am just providing another point of view. An RFE can add another one to two months to an already exacerbating seven month wait. My view is why chance it.  If you have potentially legal issues or criminal background problems, I would highly recommend a lawyer over a visa firm. Visa firms and coaches are not legal experts. They merely help put the package together.

    Good luck!

We got approved this morning. The interview was very easy and lasted less than 5 minutes.

Just a heads up for those who are going to the interview, they were asking for documents that were not listed in their website or Package 3, like a copy of the US Citizen's passport or birth certificate. Luckily I had that with me from the i129f.

Good luck to those still waiting.

Congrats! How many days before the interview did you get your medical?

I sent my conversations and didn't translate as well ( mine are in Ukrainian). USCIS cares if you met withing the last 2 years, I doubt they will care if your conversations are in a different language..don't worry :) !

The requirement is to prove you have physically met within the last two years of filing. Proof of relationship is during the interview stage at the embassy. I didn’t send any transcripts at all and I was approved with no rfe. Nothing to worry about. Good luck guys! Hopefully the process will speed up for you.

    What do i do??????

The government really doesn't care about your personal problems. They have an agenda to accomplish and it is driven without emotion or compassion. Unfortunately it is purely a numbers game to them.  Not much you can do but wait for a denial, correct the concern and reapply.  As difficult as it is we must all remove emotion from the process.  The decisions made by the government are objective. The are trained to remove emotion from the decision. In addition, they are given quotas and are responsible for achieving those quotas to maintain their ranking which effects their raises and promotions. This is reality.
