joglen1210 got a reaction from Cata&Ben in How do you feel about leaving your family, friends and career behind?
Trust in yourself and to the person you will be with is the primary key. When I left for the US more than 20 years ago, I held a senior management position for a huge electronics company based in Seoul Korea. I also travelled a lot, had all the luxuries and perks of being in the top. Its very difficult at first, especially in the first year (adjustments, acclimatizing, culture clashes, etc) - starting from scratch and trying to prove yourself once again. But through perseverance - you will get by. Follow your heart and deserve to be happy.

You have a PhD, so why cant you differentiate between lies, conspiracy theories and the facts - the link you sent came from a site espousing falsehoods. I am anti illegal immigration - I am for a decent immigrants who falls in line, work their way up and not abuse the system or us it to their advantage. There is no law separating babies from their mothers. Enforce the law, yes it must be - but don't use a wave of people who are fleeing despot regimes, violence and poverty as a wedge issue to divide. For sure, those people will not be able to reach or even cross the borders. I am in the medical field and I see a lot of abuse from immigrants as well. What I hate are politicians who lies and spread falsehoods and deceive people just like the current occupier of the WH is doing. I used to be a conservative or a Republican - but I would prefer helping people than using them to my advantage. No offense, I am not implying you are a racist - its just our politics is really different. There is no justification for breaking up families and make the innocent suffer. They should process and enforce the law as "humanely" as possible.

Are you a filipino? or a minority? I just can't believe you all fall for the lies and deception of this current WH occupier. I just cant understand why its okay with you to separate babies from their mom. Sure, lets get rid of all the immigrants instead of giving them the opportunity to work. If I ask you to apply for a job picking up vegetables in an open field or cleaning houses or picking up litters in the highway - I bet you will not apply. The extreme right hates immigrants and some of them are espousing that the US return to become pure white and you as an immigrant is okay with it? You support a corrupt womanizer, a bankruptcy expert and a guy who dupes businesses and employees by not paying them - I guess shows more of the hypocrisy prevalent with the immigrant (ignorant) community. What?? its all Hillary's fault? Love the fetus - hate the baby??

Just curious - is she a permanent resident? does she have a Social Security Number (US)? Is it a foreign income? I prepare taxes and there are too many questions that needs to be answered.

joglen1210 got a reaction from TBoneTX in Thinking to move back to my home country
Its a normal feeling for newcomers. the sooner you accept reality and embrace your new environment, the better for you. i have the same feeling when i moved here a few years ago. in my former country, we are boss, there are people who can do the minuscule errands or jobs for you for a very small fee. we don't do laundry or clean the house because there are people (maids) who are cheap. i used to be an executive in that part of the world before. i command people and i have managers reporting to me. what made me move here is because of family and better future (live the american dream as they always say). i used to miss that life when i was new. but then, i have to accept and swallow my pride for the better. i am humbled by my experience here. there are great opportunities if you will stick it out and open your eyes. just be patient and meet new friends and acquaintances. when i went to visit my previous home (after so many years, it's totally different and thats when i really appreciate that there is no place i would rather be than here. this our home now - its not perfect but at least, when you work hard, you will go places. i dont know about your situation but hold on tight and things will be alright.
