I am a new citizen, new i-9 requirements state certificate of naturalization is no longer valid evidence of employment authorization.
My certificate of naturalization is with the passport office anyway who are saying 18 weeks (from June) until I get my passport.
I had a green card stamp which was due to expire in Aug 22 2021. Per i-9 regulations, employers are supposed to re check these.
My social security card says "valid with dhs work authorization only" so I cant use social and drivers license.
I have a new job offer and my old work is asking for proof of employment. Question: is there a way around this? I feel like I'm screwed.

Oh my god thank you so much!
Did you get combo interview that day?
if you can please share some of your experience. The officer didn't call my wife in and at the end of the N-400 they just said I'm going to approve both. Approved both same day, took two weeks to schedule oath.

Who else is having N400 Interview on May 5th, 2021 with pending I 751 In New York City?
I had mine about a month ago. Make sure you bring your spouse and this. I used the .pdf as it looked more official. Had issues with security with bringing wife and this got them off our backs: https://www.dhs.gov/publication/uscis-processing-concurrently-pending-forms-n-400-and-forms-i-751

You got a combo?! The exact same office told me they had "never heard of that being done before" in November when I had my N-400. Four months later, and I'm still in limbo.
It was more of a waived i-751 interview but yeah, I think you got the short straw, the office definitely know what it is. Every step of this process has been a headache for me, my i-751 took 27 months.
I hope you get it sorted soon. I was emailing and calling my senator before but they never got back to me. Have you tried that? Maybe call the USCIS Ombudsman as well.

Thank you and congratulations! I will bring that note with me too. Did you have a same day oath or they are asking you to come back again?
Thanks, no worries. My office doesn't do same day oath but I just got notification they've already mailed the notice out.

I told my husband he needs to come with me as it might be a combo interview but is there a way to be sure of it prior? Please update us on how your interview go on Monday and good luck!
Just got out. They only interviewed me and approved i-751 and N-400. They didn't want to speak to my wife. The security guards did give me hassle about bringing my wife in but I took the above notice out with the "bring your spouse" highlighted and they let her in. Would recommend anyone in the same situation do the same just incase.
Relieved to be at the end of the road, good luck to everyone.

We filed I-751 in June 2019 and in September 2019 got the ready for interview notifications. In July 2020 we filed the N-400. After filing a congressional letter, we received notice of N-400 interview. Possibly coincidence. But the I751 status is unchanged. Called USCIS to see if we could talk to an immigration officer to combine the two or to see what could be done. But the only thing the agent would permit was to postpone the interview and request to combine the two. i.e. black hole. Is there anyway to know if they will combine the two interviews in advance to the appointment? The notice clearly states that only the applicant is allowed in for the interview but the I751 interview would require both spouses, I assume.
I am in the same situation as you. My N-400 is on Monday in NYC. Only received notice for N-400. I will let you know if it's a combo or not. The n400 notice is generic, pending i751 applications are rare in comparison to the usual n400's.
I am also bringing the below with the following passage highlighted: https://www.dhs.gov/publication/uscis-processing-concurrently-pending-forms-n-400-and-forms-i-751
The speakers also clarified that, if the jointly filed I-751 petition is pending at the time of the N-400 interview, an applicant should bring his or her petitioning spouse to the naturalization interview.

I need your advice. I filed I-751 in late 2018 and N-400 in late 2019. Once I filed N-400, my I-751 moved to the local office.
Last month, I attended my N-400 interview. I was assuming it would be a combo interview, but it wasn’t. The officer said they only had me there for N-400, and although they had my I-751 in front of them, they couldn’t look at it because they were busy.
The officer informed me that I passed my N-400, but I can’t be called for an oath yet because my I-751 would need to be adjudicated first. They told me they would look into having someone review it, but it’s been a month and my case status hasn’t changed.
I submitted a request online but got an automated letter just a few days after saying my I-751 is still within normal processing times. Anything I could do? Or should I just continue to wait? At this point, it’s been 2.5 years since I filed my I-751, and it’s the only thing left on my journey to citizenship. Thanks!
What office was this? I would call your representative or senator.

My wife never received a I-751 letter for interview. So we went to the office and they just did a quick interview for the I-751 and then did my wifes N-400 interview. This was Charleston, SC. Hope this helps.
Thanks, I appreciate it. I hope this is the case with us in the NYC office.

i-751 filed: Dec 2018
N-400 filed: Jan 2020
N-400 interview letter received for March 2021.
I only got the letter for N-400, no word on i-751. I spoke to someone on the virtual assistant Emma who said "it would be a separate interview" but still going to take my wife just in case as I believe these people often don't have the full picture. Also, contacting my senator and asking them if they can help with making sure it's a combo!Anyone else have any advice?

Your employer does not have to reverify green cards but IS legally obligated to reverify your extension letter upon expiry. See below:
https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/61-lawful-permanent-residents-lpr
USCIS are only doing the i551 passport stamps in case of an emergency, fortunately I believe your employer asking for recertification counts as an emergency. You can get an appointment 30 days before your extension letter expiring.

You don't lose your work authorization because your extension letter expires and you shouldn't lose your job either. If you're doing ROC it means your card should not have any restrictions unless you came as K1 originally and didn't get it changed.
ROC extension letters require i-9 reverification upon expiry so you will lose your job if it is not renewed. It is described below in the last item:
https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/61-lawful-permanent-residents-lpr

Call your congressional representative for help
-
I would contact your congressional representative and ask them for help. Good luck. I imagine it's going to get worse when all the furloughs kick in.
This will be an issue for me when mine expires in 3 months. The workaround is to get an unrestricted social security card but of course social security is totally closed!

Hi Guys,
Are you SURE this is the case? I'm sure this is on the minds of every non-citizen in America right now given that a lot of people are probably about to lose their jobs.
On the public charge declaration form I noted this...
Have you EVER received, or are currently certified to receive in the future any of the following public benefits? (select all that
apply).1. Any Federal, State, local or tribal cash assistance for income maintenance
Is cash assistance for income maintenance different from unemployment assistance?
-
I'm not a lawyer and have limited understanding of this BUT I believe the way it works is they post a "proposed rule" in the federal register and invite comment. They then have to review each comment and publish a "final rule" addressing the comments. If you look at the last N400 fee change in 2016, they published a proposed rule in May and it wasn't implemented until December of 2016, with the "final rule" published in October.

Hello All,
If you are filing an N400, I would recommend that you use the tax transcripts as opposed to tax returns. Looks like in the instructions for the new forms (Sep 2019) they are no longer accepted.
However in the document checklist they are still there but it's dated 2017.

Applied 10/26/2018. Got RFE status update 10/24/2019. Received RFE letter in mail on 10/28/2019.
The letter says the IRS tax returns I sent were "not signed or supported by IRS documentation." I might not have signed tax return documents my accountant sent me but what does "not supported by IRS documentation" mean?
Also they said my evidence did not span the duration of my marriage. I got married in Dec 2015 but started joint accounts and credit cards in 2016. I sent all records since then.
Does anyone know what to do?
Hello KPZen,
Did you send in just your 1040's or did you send in the W-2s and accompanying schedules?
I wonder if it's anything to do with this (which would be unfair):
As the previous poster said, send in your tax transcripts for the relevant years for you and your spouse. You can download them for free straight away from the IRS website. Occassionally you get errors, in which case you can request a copy by mail. I would do this right now as there is a looming government shutdown and if it occurs the website will not be available. Also, to make things even more fun the IRS have started masking personal details for IRS transcripts so I would send all your W-2's etc again so they can verify.
I would also detail a) everything you sent originally and b) exactly what the RFE said (with personal/identifying details ommited) here. That way the good people of this forum can make some suggestions and give advice if you are missing.Don't sweat it. If you are a real couple, you have nothing to worry about - only 5 percent of these cases are denied even under the present administration.
Good luck.
