cosmonauts got a reaction from Coco8 in Recent J1 waiver timeline 2017
You don't need to file anything else. I-612 is the form assigned to you at the USCIS stage. You just need to wait for them to approve the waiver and send you the approval notice.

No, it is not a form. DS3035 transforms into I-612 just because DOS and USCIS work differently and process it differently. Your approved waiver will say I-612 application to waiver foreign residency requirement but that's all. You don't need to do anything else at this point, just wait.

You could learn some of the typical dishes and surprise him one day For me, food has been one of the hardest things to accept/get used to in the US.
And like you said, making sure he has a space in the house so he doesn't feel like a guest. It will take time to adjust no matter how much you prepare. Having no friends and no job is very very difficult, especially if you have an active life in your home country.
Our cultures are not that different which is why it can be hard to notice/understand certain cultural differences. Just be there for him!

cosmonauts got a reaction from strider4 in Anyone with J-1/ F-1 who filed for AOS (marriage-based) in 2016 & 2017?
Hi everyone! I've just found this and I'm (hopefully) close to the end of the process!
I'm adjusting from J-1, I had 212 residency requirement but I didn't get the approved waiver before sending my package. I never got an RFE due to this so we will just bring it to our interview on Sept 25.
They've changed the forms for AOS several times this year so to everyone looking for advice on filing I say read USCIS's website and instructions carefully because we've all had different experiences (and sent different forms). They also raised the prices I think.
We consulted with a lawyer from my university and were told that filing did not affect my J-1 program, I could finish it without problems. However, I could not get an extension on my DS-2019 after it was over and here I do not remember if it was because I had asked for the 212 waiver or because of filing (but I'm inclined to say it was the first one)
Everything has been going smoothly for us, thank goodness!
Check my timeline and/or signature for more info on my process.

I'm sure it's somehow related to the office but we got our interview scheduled and if you go to San Bernardino's processing time it says they are reviewing cases from December 2016. Our PD is May 11th. I think there's hope for everyone!

I filed for AOS before receiving the waiver and before my J-1 expired and we have out interview date in one month! As long as you file before your grace period ends you should be fine.

Hi guys,
My SR from Aug 7 was assigned to an officer yesterday, Aug 17 and like others have written here it says it was completed and that they send a response all with the date 08/17. I didn't get any e-mails. I hope this means good news!
Is the PD the date from when I should be counting the days passed? I'm confused. Thanks!

cosmonauts got a reaction from Coco8 in J-1 Waiver Timelines 2016
Hi,
I started my AOS process before receiving the waiver and I also had a favorable recommendation. My waiver took 3 months to be approved since USCIS received my case, it arrive about a week after I sent the AOS package.
About the question on the form: I answered yes and then added a note on a separate page explaining that I had received a fav rec, gave the dates and included copies of the recommendation and the notice of action. I can share the specific paragraph I wrote on a private message.
My AOS is being processed normally and I will bring the approved waiver to my interview, whenever that may be.
Hope this helps.

cosmonauts got a reaction from Nelly17 in F-1 adjustment of status after marriage
I can't help about the China questions but my advice is to type everything on the computer. All forms allow for this and if something can't be typed only then hand write it after printing using a black ink pen. For example I couldn't type D/S on when my I-94 expired so I just wrote it afterwards. It's the safest way to go
Hope this helps.

cosmonauts reacted to Evenimente in J1 visa no objection certificate from Chile
I am not from Chile, but as someone who has been through the j1 waiver process recently, I can tell you that it is merely a bureocratic inconvenience, and should not cause you problems,as long as you are not Fulbright or some other U.S. government sponsored scholar.
Once my embassy issued the no objection statement, the state department sent a favorable recommendation in about 2 weeks, but then USCIS took 2 months to send the final approval. Worst thing about it is that it is entirely out of your control, and between the DOS and USCIS receipt you have no way of tracking your case.
Good luck!
