If there is a public library nearby, they usually have a free English class or an English conversation class, where she can meet other people from various countries. They usually have other interesting adult program too, or volunteer program.

My marriage certificate and my conditional GC have Anne (first) Faith Love (middle names) Hope Smith (new last names consist of my maiden name and husband's last name, no hyphen). Because my Vietnamese first name is so hard to pronounce, I've been using Love (old middle name as new first name) Hope Smith ever since I got married. I had no problem getting my SS card under Love Hope Smith.
When I filed for ROC, I requested to have my permanent GC as Love Hope Smith. USCIS issued me a new GC with the requested name with no hassles.
Recently, when I filed for N400, even though I had my GC under Love Hope Smith, I still had to officially request a name change. Later on, I was granted the name change by the US District Court on my Oath Date.
Thanks for the info! Did you have to pay extra for the name change? Or, it was free because of the N400?

The other concern may be if you need to report the name change in your home country. For example, if you're maintaining citizenship/passport for your home country.
For example, in Canada, if I changed my name in that way I would need to file a legal name change there, or else my Canadian passport wouldn't match my green card, which can be an issue for travel.
Yes, it's gonna be a bit tough with the passport cause the process is the same in Indonesia. I have to go back and do a legal name change there. I think I will just ask the Embassy to add my husband's last name in the passport, but still use (First) (maiden) (husband's last name) in the GC. I probably won't be able to do international traveling later on until naturalization.

The rules depend on the state you live in. Some states only allow you to change your last name when you get married, to change other names (first, middle) you then need a legal name change. Research the rules for your state.
I googled a bit about the rules in Maryland. Someone wrote she just went to SSA and told the clerk that she wanted her maiden as middle name without any legal process. So, basically I have to go to SS office first. I will google for more information to make sure. If the State is OK with changing your middle and last name through marriage, that means I can go with it, correct? Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I have a conditional GC now in my maiden name. I have to file ROC in August and have been wondering about changing my maiden and last name. The thing is, I already have 2 middle names. For example, Anne (first) Faith Love (middle names) Hope (maiden name). I know it's long, but it's normal in my country to have 2 middle names. So, is it possible for me to drop my two middle names and change it to my maiden name and then add my husband's last name when I file I-751 later? For example, Anne (first) Hope (maiden) Smith (husband's last name) instead of Anne Faith Love Hope Smith or Anne Faith Love Smith. Or, should I just bear with 5 names until naturalization end of next year, cause I don't want to drop my maiden name? I don't mind going to SSA, MVA, Bank, etc later on to change the name. Any information would be appreciated!

That is true. But I wish I could quit first, because getting fired is very embarrassing and I have never experienced that before. It destroyed my confidence. Coming from a third-world country makes me think that maybe the only job I could do here is housekeeping jobs regardless of what experiences I had because I know in here it won't matter.
Hi Ayu,
I know that I am not in the place to talk against you saying that we could only do housekeeping jobs since I have a degree from here. But, even in my field (museum) I had to volunteer (unpaid) for 1.5 years before I finally landed a job in my field that I love. I have experience working in museum too before I moved to the US, but they did not count it here. So, I tried my best to volunteer and intern while working as a babysitter. I don't know in what field you were working in Indonesia, but just don't give up and find a job that you love. Sorry for the loss of your dog. Jangan nyerah ya!

I was unemployed for around 6 months (I used the first three months in the US to focus on preparing my wedding celebration here), and I am going to start working next week. Although it's not in my field but I like this job too, so thank God for that.
I actually got this job by turning in my application in person. They interviewed me right away and got the job on the same day. Weird how I got asked for some other interviews that are within my field just a couple of days after I accepted the teaching job. Oh well, be grateful for what you have now.
Don't give up and keep looking! If it is your first time looking for job in the US, make sure sure to apply for another opportunities outside your field too.
-
Yes, just like what daigo said. Is it local or international airways? If it is international then I am not sure how you can go out and in the US since you haven't gotten the physical green card yet.

Recap: My interview was schedule for March 1st but was put into administrative processing.
I got a call from The US Embassy here in Nassau,Bahamas yesterday (4/19/16) to bring my passport into The US Embassy today (4/20/16) at 11:00 am to get my IV. I was told that my passport will be available for pick tomorrow (4/21/16).
Thanks be to god and to each and everyone of my fellow VJ family, for all of the support, advice, encouragement, knowledge and for being open about sharing your journey to help other. Xoxo
Congrats BHSMama!
I guess you are the last one of February filers who finally finished the visa journey! So happy for you! Hope the next steps will be smooth.
-
Haven't visited this forum for a long time and I'm so happy to know that everyone has finally done with this process.
My husband got approved! I am probably one of the last of the February filers to get through, but to God be the glory! Approval on 12 April; ceac says printed and issued 14 April. Last step the POE, hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks. He didn't want to get his hopes up, so he hasn't done much to prepare for the transition. Thanks so much for all of your kind words and encouragement through the last 1.5 years of this process.
Congratulations!! Hope the next steps will be smooth, traveling and POE.

Hey Everyone,
Got an interview date just now ... 11 April at 7am!
Excited and fingers crossed!
Congrats! Best wishes for your interview next month!
I just called the NVC, Jamaica started scheduling yesterday. I got an interview date for April 12. My CC was Dec 2. I am so happy just 47 more days til we get a Visa. I am claiming it in Jesus name.
Finally, congratulations! I believe everything will be good and you will get the visa by God's Grace and favor!
Hi guys overall my interview was better than I expected to be, I wasn't denied or approval for my visa, at the last minute we decided to change our sponsor because NVC suggested to carry an additional joint sponsor info at my interview. Got they're everything was OK, answered a few simple question blah blah blah.... The counsler suggested we continue with our orignal sponsor and to have him email me or hand deliver his tax transcript and w2 at the embassy here in Nassau Bahamas asap and I'll be good, I asked him if I needed to bring the document he didn't review and he said no just the tax info. They didn't look at any of my documents except the new joint sponser info. Before the day out we'll email the embassy the info and or hand deliver it.
No worry, I think they just want extra documents. Have you delivered them to the embassy?

Really??? Did you get any email before that or anything like that? I also paid the fee before I left my country and tomorrow it'll be 1 month since I'm in US
Getting the GC that early would be great! Tho, the officer told me it'll take 3 to 6 months to get it.
No, It was just delivered to me without any notification or email. I don't think it will take 3 months. That's really long haha. Probably it depends on the state or customs where you arrived? Not sure. Hope you'll get the GC soon.
-
The green card will be sent to your US home address. I think I read a while back two weeks or shortly after the arrival to the US. Best of luck to you and your spouse.
This is correct. I got my GC just one month after I arrived in the US and that was because I paid the fee before I left my country. GC was sent to the US address I wrote in my application.

Hello everyone
How's the new year so far? For me I can say that God has given us a merry Christmas and a happy new year. On Thursday I'll be leaving for the US. After we've waited so many months. I can say that we've been finished in less than a year. The expedite was very easy and we didn't even provide any proof. It was just be letting them know we needed one because of the financial impact the life apart has caused. I'll report as soon as I'm able on my experience at the POE. Keep on praying those of you still waiting. God will favor you all as He did for us. On an encouraging note I have not seen one person getting denied a family based visa on the day of my interview.
Safe travel, j-zealous! God bless you
