I chose to go back to Canada after we were married (in Florida) for a few reasons.  I still had debt to pay off and had a good in Canada. At the time we thought it would only take 6 months for the visa to come thru.  Had I stayed, I would have had to abandon my vehicle and all my personal belongings in Canada.

I went back to Canada and my hubs filed for the IR1/CR1 visa.  Then it was right when we filed that the whole system went crazy with the shift in priorities at the federal level.. So we ended up getting the run around for 2 years.  Lost case file and everything. Anyway because we had been married for 2 years by the time we got the visa, I entered on an IR1 visa... Meaning I didn't have to remove conditions later on.

During the 2 years apart, my hubs flew to Canada several times and I flew to the US.  There was always a chance of being denied entry to the US.  I always had a return flight booked already, and my stays were only weeks at a time.  Given that your wife is pregnant, it might be harder for her to prove she is not intending on staying.

And honestly, you want your wife to have the baby in Canada because of the healthcare situation.... Unless you have the most amazing insurance that she can be added to.

I do not know of any legal way that she can come live with you while the visa is pending, let alone work.  I think at this point you need to just accept your fate and ride it out!  That's kinda par for the course with immigration.

Had she stayed in the US, you could have filed for CR1 right after getting married.  However, she is now back in Canada.  So you, the American, have to apply for a spousal visa for her (CR1 visa... Unless you have been married 2 years and then it is IR1).  She has to remain in Canada while thr visa is pending.  She is allowed to visit, but it is up to the discretion of the border agents as to whether they will let her in.  If they think she is coming to stay, they can deny entry.

As a canadian living in the US, I went thru all of this myself!  It took 2 years for the visa to come thru for us.  I enter on an IR1, which was easier cuz then I didnt have to remove conditions.

    Good luck!

You need to go through a Class A port of entry.  These will process your immigration visa.

Just look up which one you want to go through.

    Look back through financial records?

If you can't get exact dates... I would hope she can at least come up with what month she visited.

Surely there are some sort of records.

    Are you actually married now?
You are not living in Canada, so you are not entitled to health care anymore.
When you were married, you should have informed the CRA within a specified time frame. I forget what it is now, but you can look it up on their website. When you do your taxes this year, you have to check the box that says you ceased to be a permanent resident.
Since you are now a resident in the us, you should get a driver's license for the state you live in. Each state has different requirements for this. Look it up on the DMV website for your state.

But I remember reading your story from when I first started lurking on VJ... and I remember it breaking my heart to read of it then. But you have certainly turned a bad situation into a blessed one for so many people, including yourself!! (L)

Well, the sad answer to your question is that there is no point whatsoever in calling NVC. All it does is make one frustrated, ticked off, and neurotic. Believe me, I am speaking from experience! I guess that's one of my beefs with VJ And all the guides.. everything says "start calling NVC all the time!!!!" .... when in reality it's futile. They will email you when they need something or to tell you the case is complete.
If you need the updates by phone, call them once a week. Nothing major will happen within a week's time.. trust me.
And just so I sound more human and not like a total a-hole... I feel your pain! I'm a Jan 2013 filer and still waiting for my interview date to be assigned. I can't tell you the incredible rage I have felt through this whole thing. But anyway I don't need to tell you.. because you're experiencing the same thing!
The whole thing just plain sucks.
