First, you cannot compare the backgrounds of Africans to the back grounds of blacks in this country because the two do not compare. We are two separate groups of people with two separate backgrounds. You will not have the same back ground, culture and up bringing as a white person from the UK would you?
Secondly, racist people and non racist people in America are far more willing to accept any body from ANY COUNTRY as long as they are not a black American. With this being said, I am educated, smart, speak three different languages and am rarely accepted in my current career setting. I am presentable, clean, hair neat, good speech and I get professors who do not want to shake my hand because they know I am American black versus they will shake, rub and hug any African person they meet.
When the oppressors left Africa, Africans had their own country to be in, versus black Americans had no country to call their own because our ancestors had no idea where they were from.
Hate begets hate, abuse begets abuse, it is a hard chain to break. Why do you think abused women turn and go back to their abusers? Why do abused children still love their parents? Drug addicts still love drugs? All of this is a psychological chain that has to be broken by the wearers of the chains as well as the observers of the people who watching the people wear the chains.
You can say what you want, but when you meet a well spoken black person you are still hesitant, not because they were not presentable, but because they are black American. Either you want blacks doing drugs and killing or you want them getting educated taking good jobs. Either way, we are still hated and looked down upon, and if this is the case, people lose faith and lack the motivation to want to improve if they are going to just be shunned and frowned upon anyway. Why get out off what you know only to face another hostile unknown? Everybody does not have this strong will.

I do not know how long you have known this man or why he has said he doesn't want to carry on with the application, but after such a short time of waiting I think I would be questioning his commitment to you. I think you may have had a lucky escape.

I really hate this type of condescending nonsense. If you think the USCIS's service is adequate because you happen to be friends with one of the numb skulls that runs a service center, then fine. Great for you. But to pretend like you better know how much preparation someone else has done or needs to do is just ridiculous.
Your friend is an integral part of a horribly managed system that causes a lot of unnecessary grief and confusion for the people who have no choice but to avail themselves of it. And a lot of those people are going to continue to demand better of that system, whether you or your friend like it or not. Just because he sat down and had drinks with you and told you "how it is" doesn't mean we have to accept the way he or others in the USCIS are mismanaging the system we depend upon.

Oh please, you waited half a month more than the national average at that time. Many of us are waiting 4 months more than what we were told we'd be waiting. I've worked on my relationship for 4 years already, but thanks for the tip. I'm surprised you didn't say that God has a time reserved for everyone.

First and foremost, I want to tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your baby. That is, by far, the most important part of what I just read (IMO)
As far as your relationship goes, you say that it was real because you bought stuff and she got pregnant, but do you realize that true relationships are not about the stuff you buy or even making babies? There needs to be a true connection and real love.
Now, you may have felt that and she may have felt that, and the loss of the baby could have adjusted both of your emotions. I could easily see that. The loss of a baby can often be something that couples can never recuperate from.
I understand the importance of your status, but if you focus primarily on your status, then you are missing out on the whole reason for your being here in the first place, and that was the love you had for your wife.
If you truly did and do love her, then concentrate on making that a priority right now. If you don't, then the rest means nothing.
I'd recommend serious soul searching, and decide for yourself what is important to you.
This probably isn't what you came to hear, and you are free to ignore my advice, but it is what it is, and I hope it helps in some small way

You do have every right to be upset, just be sure to point your frustrations in the right direction. The people who get their cases adjudicated quickly haven't bribed officials or jumped the line, they are just like everyone else. They put in their applications and wait and hope for the best. Personally, I will be happy for anyone who gets their approval be it faster or slower than myself. I will show frustration with an agency that has no transparency and seems to lack any compassion when dealing with such emotional issues such as ours.

    (Organizer hat off)
No one here had a rougher experience than the member Sara, a true sweetheart who's still active on VJ. Her file was lost or misplaced for over two years. She pursued channels with dogged patience, finally reached a breaking point, and at last the NOA2 showed up. Sadly, by that time, her fiance had lost patience with the wait, and the relationship ended.
The epitome of classiness is how Sara handled every joyous VJ post of "We got the NOA2!" In every instance, she posted a sincere response of congratulations without one breath of self-pity, although her heart must have been breaking several times over.
Perhaps Sara will visit this thread and help to put your own waits into a different perspective by telling her story.

liddy reacted to pachacuti in Today on Barak Obama FB page. Let's Storm it!
From the site, it would appear that it is not. It seems to be an example of one of the problems that Mr. Obama intends to address with his executive orders:
"I migrated to the U.S. with my parents in 1986. We were lucky to have had the opportunity to enter the U.S. legally. However, my now husband did not have the means to be able to migrate in the same manner. He migrated to the U.S. in 1993 and remained illegal until 2008 due to advice by lawyers that there was no way he could fix his status. When we finally decided to apply for his U.S. residency, his visa was denied and he has been in Mexico for 5 years now...and in the meantime we continue to be separated."
So, 5 year separation? They have my sympathy.
I am definitely not opposed to DACA and other types of deferral actions. I am just opposed to them being made a priority at the expense of other, more legitimate, visa petitions (and, yes, I consider family visa petitions to be more legitimate, as they are not intended to correct some past, let's say "inability", to follow the law. At most, they should just queue up along with the rest of us.
But what do I know? I am apparently supposed to be spending my time getting to know my fiancee.

liddy reacted to Gary and Alla in What to expect now? next stage hopefully in April
    1. Do not expect anything to happen in April. There are no "predictions" from USCIS, you are looking at the VJ estimator, it is not official, neither is anything from USCIS. The vast majority of disappointment in this process is from unrealistic expectations.
    2. Stop checking timelines and USCIS updates. My wife is a citizen now and ours still says "initial review". In surveys the USCIS system was found to be 68% accurate. I am an engineer, if I had data that was 68% accurate, I would throw it away and throw darts at a chart to decide what to do. What does a 68 get you on a math exam?
    3. Read the guides here on the next step and read the threads in the "Consulate" sub-forum that cover issues for the next step.
    4. Realize that the visa is the beginning, not the end. Your journey BEGINS when the visa is in her hand. It takes about 4 years to finish (citizenship) and in between is LIFE. She is coming here for LIFE, not a dinner date, not the Prom. When you consider this you see that 3 weeks or 3 months waiting is really nothing.
    5. Prepare for her LIFE here. You should be discussing that now. The procedure of the visa is nothing really. It is a few hours of your time to prepare papers and about 3 minutes for the "interview". Treat it accordingly. On the other hand, she will be moving her entire LIFE here and that takes much more preparation. All her stuff needs to get here, she is going to need to speak English really well and even if she does, she will still find many difficulties. If she does not speak English really well (12th grade US level or above) then get her started in English lessons at her level in Russia, then start checking for English classes here. IF she really already speaks English well, then get her signed up for a TOEFL and GRE exams in Russia. Google TOEFL and GRE. She is going to need a level of English equal to that needed to enter college IN THE USA in order to be able to function in LIFE in the USA. Unless you want her to wipe tables and/or clean @sses. If you are wealthy and she never needs to work, she still needs this level of English not to feel STUPID in our culture. FSU women will not tolerate feeling stupid. What about education? Get her education transcripts, get them translated and get them evaluated here (google ECE) she will need them. Get all her important documents in order and get them translated. I know, you do not need that for the visa, right? Who cares about the visa? You need it for LIFE!
    6. Sorry if I am not telling you all the stuff to do for the VISA, but the visa is just not important at all and you can read all about that here at VJ
    7. You are about to begin a life with one of the most incredible women in the world, an FSU woman. Aside from the fun and games here in the RUB sub-forum you can read about what that is like. Read about what they expect. They are not submissive sexual robots from the movie "Stepford Wives". True enough, you will frequently need to be peeled off the bed, sofa or kitchen floor but to think that it is without obligation on your part would be a mistake.
    8. The BEST thing you can do is prepare for her LIFE here. That will earn you a +300,000,000. Constantly talking about the visa and "updating her" with, well, nothing...will make her think you are pretty lame. Giving her information about schools, life here, how to ship her stuff, etc. will make her feel like she chose the right MAN to give herself to. A common Russian saying "If I need to be strong, I do not need a man. I need a man so I can be weak", another is "If I needed a reason to worry, I would be a MAN" She is worried and telling her every day "no updates on the visa, it still says the same thing" is not going to help.
Cruise through the Russia/Ukraine/Belarus forum and read the threads. Lots of good info there.

You aren't going to be waiting a few months more for a response on your case because of this act. You were going to be waiting anyway because that's how USCIS is. Painfully slow.
It's been b*tched about and b*tched about here on VJ for years, and every year there's a new thing to blame the delay on when in reality, it's just a slow process.
Some people can handle it and use the time wisely, some can't. And so we get threads like this.

liddy reacted to Fedup53 in Can I report my "husband" for staying out of US?
I know this might sound like a strange question, but I've just about had it with my situation. I got married 5 years ago to someone from Colombia, we did all the immigration stuff right, he was approved for GC, removal of conditions, etc. Thing is he never got a real job here in the U.S. For the past year and a half he has spent more time back in Colombia than he has here. He says he doesn't like where we are living, he's lonely, so he goes back home. He stayed there from April 2011 to July 2011, then again Sep 2011-Nov 2011, then Mid Jan 2012-mid Dec 2012. I don't know what he's doing down there, says he's staying with family, etc, and I know this might be a cowardly way to do it but I need some real good grounds for divorce. I wonder if I can just report him to immigration. He wants to go back again at the end of this month, then come back whenever?? So, if I report him can they get him on re-entry and just send him back?
    Thanks

I would appreciate any response. Thanks in advance :-)
