  1. Just because the relative lives with you doesn't make them counted in the household size in your count. Your household size # is those your are financially responsible for and claim on your taxes.

    • Children who don't live with you (whether you pay child support or not or regardless if they live with you count). Including children away at college you claimed on taxes

A person you live with is a household member but doesn't count in size unless you support them. Your household size is you and who you claimed on 2014 taxes and you support plus your husband. Same for your Joint Sponsor their household size plus your spouse..

I have contradicting information. In the instructions for the I-864 it says..

Item Number 7. This question gives you the option of including certain other non-dependent relatives who are living in your residence as part of your household size. Such relatives may include your mother, father, sister, brother or adult children, if they are living in your residence. However, the only reason to include these relatives in your household size is if you need to include their income when you calculate your household income for purposes of meeting the income requirement for this affidavit. To be considered, any relative included in this category must sign and submit Form I-864A, Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member.

So yes I have to include my relative in my household size even though I don't financially support him because we are combining incomes. Am I reading it wrong?

  2. Im just getting everything ready for NVC to avoid delays, but I'm not at that stage yet. I'm filling in I-864 for myself. A relative living in my home is filling in I-864a. We are combining incomes because I missed a lot of work this year and and afraid I'll barely scrape by the income requirements. And now with my relative I have to meet the requirements for a household of 3 instead of 2. Anyway, My questions...

    1. On I-864a, page 3, part 5 it says "I the sponsor..." and there's a box I print my name in and underneath that is a box where I print my husbands name (beneficiary). But under that box it says "indicate number". What does that mean????? Am I suppose to put his name in 1a as intending immigrant number 1 ? Because I thought that was for people immigrating with him and there is no one else.

    2. I-864a page 4 part 6. It says " I, household member, (that would be relative) in consideration..." There's another box that says print number intending immigrant. What does that mean??? Do I write the word "one" because there's just one immigrant?

    3. I-864 I can't find anywhere where it asks me the relationship I have with the immigrant (my husband) and that's odd so I think it's there but I'm not seeing it???

    4. My husband's address is long and it even includes "at the (a name) bus stop". It won't fit well in the provided space so what do I do?

    Thanks everyone!

  3. Clear your head...breathe....calm down and sit down with paper and pen and read the wiki link. Read it twice if you need too. There are documents you need to be getting together. Make a list of what you need to get. Make a list of any questions you have about the wiki instructions. Do not send original documents to NVC.... only photo copies. The originals go to the interview. NVC stage. is also an opportunity to side load if you have more evidence. Also, is your husband in Sweden too? He must show US domicile. But you must calm down. Like dwheels said. If you make errors it will prolong your case. Best wishes.

  4. I'm drafting a letter to request the employment verification letter from my job that I'm going to need for the NVC stage. I'm filing CR-1. When I asked them for it when I needed it for our K-1 they were butt heads and said no. It wasn't until I sent them a print out of instructions that said it was suppose to be on company letterhead, signed, include dates of hire, position, etc. that they finally provided the letter. So I'm going to send that to them again but I can't find it. I even googled it. Maybe I'm a little brain numb right now, I've been working on our immigration stuff. Does anyone have a link to something that shows I'm REQUIRED to submit this letter and HOW it's suppose to be written? Thank you.

  5. This is a question specific to your country. You need to call the place where you intend to wed and ask what the procedure is. And find other people on here from your country and ask them and read their posts. For example, in the country where we married, my husband had to go register us and then it had to be "posted" for 21 days before we could have our wedding.

  6. Average time for Nebraska is 6 months. Once they start working on your case they will make several requests about the Petitioner's background. Everything depends on how fast these authorities respond. If you have a common name it takes longer. I was waiting for my NOA 2 for 8 months.

Really? I hope not. Is this typical of NSC or is this something that happened to you. My friend was delayed in her visajjourney because they did a background check on her (petitioner) and I hope this isn't common practice. We started our immigration "experience" in 2012 (k1 now cr1). I really want smooth sailing and no more delays. Has anyone else seen this as a pattern of behavior for Nebraska?
  7. All I know to say is this... Some people with big age differences get approved, some with less get denied. Some people with red flags get approved, some with no flags get denied. It's hard to tell with these CO's. Bogus relationships get approved sometimes and genuine ones get delayed. So all you can do is this, spend as much time together as you can, visit as often as you are able, know each other well, be open and up front about everything. Don't stress on what you have no control over. Sometimes I make myself sick worrying about the interview and all the "what if's". Just be prepared, keep loving each other, save everthing (chats, call records, photos) get to know each other's families and visit often. I know other vj members will come along with more advice more specific to your case especially about the child. The CO may wonder if he is still seeing the mother or wonder why he's leaving his child behind. But I'll let more experienced members advise you on that. Best wishes.

  8. Here's what I sent.... Copy of plane ticket, almost 2 years of chats about 100 pages, phone records, emails, and photos of us, us with his cousins, his friends, his neighbors. It was a few hundred pages total. And I stayed in his apt with him for 5 weeks. But I only sent about 10 photos and wish I had sent more. The interview went very well my fiance said he was able to answer all the questions easily and the co kept shaking his head yes but never looked up or at my fiance. At the end the co went and talked briefly to another co...then came back and said he wasn't convinced of a bonafide relationship but no reason why. Suggested we get married and file a cr1. Don't let that discourage you. I've seen others get approved on way less than that and had barely known each other when they filed and only visited one week. We knew each other two years when we filed. Just be prepared and know everything about each other, hobbies, friends, families, each other's jobs, etc. Don't act nervous. Best wishes.

  9. I am so sorry your journey has been long and difficult. I understand you must be feeling very alone and upset especially watching others go through with ease. It's unfair that so much power over your life and future is put into the hands of strangers that don't even know you or your relationship. Things like this can put a strain on a relationship. With my own experience (long denied k1 and now a cr1) I feel so much time has been robbed from us. Time we will never get back. And the joy and excitement that comes with a new relationship and growing together and etc...seems immigration has tainted it a bit for us. I too get frustrated and angry and sometimes feel so so tired and drained and pray to God nothing else happens to further delay. I'm just saying...although your journey and feelings are your own and mine are mine, I can relate and I wish I knew how to encourage you. Just keep picturing the day you get the wonderful news you've been waiting for. See yourself rejoicing! Hold fast to that vision. Keep being strong and I pray any day now you get good news.

  10. I thought I had already posted here but I don't see it. Any way I'm an august filer. Got my NOA 1 Aug 20. I know we got some approved people already. Mostly CSC and Philippines. Any Nebraska approvals yet? I know our estimate is about 5 months but I was just wondering. Actually 5 months for the CR1 is quicker than our K1 was. That process went on for almost a year. Best wishes to all of us...smooth sailing and no hiccups along the journey.

  11. Your situation really bothers me. I am so sick of people misusing their authority with no thought or care to how devastating it is for the people who have to suffer the consequences of the abuse of power or their carelessness. It's also a shame that this man will probably not be reprimanded. Please keep us informed of how this turns out for you. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this and wish you the best and quickest positive results.

  12. I will tell you what I've been reading and what I've been told by my fellow VJ members. Don't send originals of anything to NVC. Send photo copies. The originals are taken to the interview by the beneficiary. Some say when the beneficiary takes the originals to the interview that they should also take a photocopy. And make sure to get the original documents back before leaving the interview. Best wishes.
