CJC got a reaction from Ben & Jela in Getting engaged without a big proposal?
This was the same situation for my (now) husband and I. Neither of us formally proposed to one another - we just knew that we wanted to get married and didn't worry about an engagement ring either.
It so happens that I was asked point blank 'how did he propose' by the IO at the interview (nearly fainted on the spot because I was worried about it also) and I just told her the truth in that there was no formal proposal - it wasn't an issue and she didn't appear overly surprised either.
Hope this helps quell your nerves. All the best for your interview and have a fantastic week!

I would leave if any mental disorder caused me physical or extreme mental harm (though with the latter I guess it would be harder to leave what with mind games etc). Not everyone can deal with a mentally ill spouse, especially if they somehow didn't know they were mentally ill before moving in together. Even with the best intentions it can become too much for some people. If my husband made me stare into his eyes for 30 minutes and wouldn't let me leave like what happened to OP then I would be very scared and want to leave.

When 2 people make an agreement to share a life (in sickness and health, richer or poorer) ... it MUST be based on honesty. Each person decides to accept (or not) the challenges facing their relationship. But when a condition is hidden and never discussed -- it is unfair to expect the spouse to blindly accept the "Surprise!! I'm Bipolar - I hate you". Not everyone is equipped physically or emotionally to deal with the rollercoaster ride.
It starts with honesty and transparency.
PS - insert any condition (bipolar, PTSD, borderline disorder, sexual addiction, alcohol, drugs, ....)

    Hey guys...
I don't know why everyone harps on questions like this. Do you all expect that random foreigners (no offense OP) or even US Citizens know how US immigration works? Because they don't. People are not necessarily criminal masterminds with grand plans to defraud the Government. More often they are confused people looking for help on how to be with their loved ones.

It is best to file ASAP but overstay will not be a bar to your adjusting status successfully. Illegal work, if it even happened, is also irrelevant.
After your stay expires and before you file it is true that you would out of status and deportable, in theory. If you got apprehended somehow, they would just order you to AOS since you are married to a USC. I am sorry about your parents' home. File ASAP. Best of luck.

Not a snowballs chance in hell that I was sending my cards - and by that I mean photos of the cards side by side showing separate cards belonging to the same account - and the statements also showing those card numbers, without some form of censoring for my own protection.
I blacked out the four digits on the front (amex cards) three digits on the back (visa) and some of main card numbers as well, but leaving enough to show that they are on the same account, which the statements also showed.
Why did I do this? One of my cards has no limit, and the rest combined have a credit line available that extends well into six figures. These cards are part of the financial co-mingling that USCIS wants to see, which necessitated them being included as evidence.
Personally I would rather do a little censoring than potentially have to clear up a mess of fraudulent transactions, with the onus then being on me having to prove they were fraudulent.
Dishonest and/or corrupt people exist in every organisation - including USCIS, fedex, UPS, and USPS.

There is no problem to book your ticket in your maiden name if that is what the name in your current passport is under, these names must match.
My issue was on my first marriage many years ago I was flying from London to Spain and had my ticket in my married name, passport was in maiden name, at check in when questioned about this i produced my marriage certificate but was told that unfortunately the names must match and a marriage certificate wasn't proof that that was actually me (don't figure)
If you have a GC in your married name then make sure you have your marriage cert for re-entry into the USA.
    All the best.

I have no idea how one's sister witnesses the non-consummation of one's marriage. Perhaps she was in the bed with them every night making sure no hanky panky took place? This witness is bogus at best.
Wanting immigration benefits (a GC or citizenship) that one is entitled to is never a matter of shame. If she divorced and filed with a divorce waiver and was granted a 10-yr GC and wanted to then try bring her whole family here, so what?
It seems the ex husband thinks that divorce = no GC. Simply not true. I think the ex is suffering from "I thought I gave my spouse a green card and now I can take it back-itis". It is a serious brain infection whereby US citizen spouses believe they have some sort of immigration power.
    Treatment options include:
    - telling them to go away
    - laughing in their face
    - ignoring them
    - going on with your own life
    Apply treatment liberally.

All of your posts have been insensitive and rude. She didn't mention in her post anything about wanting to abandon her marriage or her husband. She didn't mention cars or jobs being worth more to her than her husband is. In fact, you can probably infer from her post that she is thinking about moving back to Indonesia WITH HIM. Being in the US isn't the end-all-be-all to a marriage to a US citizen.
In fact, I can relate to OP. I am currently going through the homesicknesses and missing Canada more than anything. I love my husband very much and he IS my #1 priority in life. I could not imagine my life without him - but that does not mean that I can't miss my home.
It's definitely normal to feel this way, OP. Moving to a new country is always difficult. It may be hard to feel like you "fit in" or it may be difficult to get used to seeing new things and seeing people act in a different manner. It's also very difficult to adjust to a new quality of life (especially if that quality of life is lower!).
My advice would to be sit down with your husband and discuss what you both value most in life and try to determine which country would better suit your values. Or to wait it out and see if your situation will improve. Adjusting takes time

I think there are a lot of people that feel this way. I worried about my wife adjusting for a while but thankfully she had already had a lot of experience with the US before we met so that helped. I also assume it's much easier to transition from Canada to the US than it would be from Indonesia.
In the end I am a strong beliver that you need to do what's best for you. True marriage is very important, but I don't ever think someone should have to completely give up their dreams and aspirations for another person. Very soon into dating my wife she told me point blank that she would not persue a relationship with a man who expected her to give up her professional goals and as forthcoming as it was, I respect her for it. I understand it's hard when you have to chose which county to relocate to, as it's virtually impossible to come to an even compromise, but make sure to look out for yourself.
Also just keep in mind that if someone admits they don't understand or get how you are feeling, their advice and/or critism probably isn't very valid anyways.

It's not about money only. Besides don't you think that people, who are coming here on K or spouse visa are brave enough and sacrifice a lot, leaving their entire life behind.. leaving jobs, parents, friends.. and very often have to start form the very beginning here.. ??? You are HOME anyway, no matter what will happen to your relationship. So, I wouldn't even try to "measure" who sacrificed more or less..
Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't . And you never know until you try. It's a life decision, and the best thing you can do is to be completely honest - with your Fiancé and with yourself first of all. And this is what the OP is actually doing - trying to be honest.

In my experience, the first few weeks, and even months, are not so much the problem - things will be new and exciting. You'll be learning about new systems and a new way of life, more-or-less....and that will keep you preoccupied.
It's once you're comfortable enough to know your way around (literally and metaphorically) and things aren't new and exciting any more, and you've kind of got into the daily habits of life that you miss your family, because they won't be part of the daily habits of your life like they once were.
Unless you're a naturally 'busy, busy, busy person', I think it will be hard to keep making yourself busy in the long-term in order to stave off homesickness.
I'm lucky, that I don't really suffer from home-sickness, and was largely fine living away from home for years at a time, but these are some things that I found that helped me when I did need it.
Make friends outside of your partner - have 'your own life' just as you would if your fiance moved to the UK. Find some podcasts/TV shows/sport that you enjoy in the UK, and make sure to access them on a regular basis once you're living in the US (I was surprised how much I missed hearing my own accent after a long time). Figure out what simple material stuff you'll miss from home (food is my prime example) and make sure you have some on hand, or know where to get it. Set up a regular skype schedule with your close family. That way, you'll have a routine into which 'seeing them' occurs. If they don't skype, make sure you both make a time to call regularly. If you can afford it, book a ticket home, but not for a while...Going home when you feel homesick isn't a solution (in my opinion)...you need to make Philly your home. So don't book a ticket for six month's time...Plan to go home to visit, but in a year - once you've had time to establish your home in the US. Make sure that your fiance is willing and happy to make "her home" into "your home"...there's nothing worse than coming home and feeling like you're dropping into someone else's life. Good luck!

Weims need strong owners. Not physically, but mentally. Study some books or watch some Cesar Millan shows on how to have a better walk with your dogs. They should not be pulling you around everywhere, and they do need a lot of exercise as hunting bred dogs (think an hour run every day!) But if you're their alpha, they won't pull like that.
It's really natural to be homesick, even when you're happy to be someplace. I moved from Canada and I was homesick for the first year. I could work and drive, but things were just different.
If you don't have your SSN yet, you should go get it. This is too long to be waiting. Go the SSA office and bring your endorsed passport to show you have a green card. Hopefully the hard copy green card will get to you soon.
I would make a list of places you guys can visit or eat on his time off. Try some new restaurants. Go hiking or to a new park. A wine and painting place?
Maybe you can get a scooter or bike to get to places close by in the mean time or learn the bus schedule? Study for the driver's exam too!
Try some online programs or the local university or college for something new to learn. Even the library like Tbone suggested.
I"m checking out your blog now

CJC reacted to NikLR in Why should K1 visa applicants get interview date before I-130 applicants!
I would have never have taken the K1 route, no matter how much faster it can be. The inability to jump on a plane a moment's notice if my daughter needs me is not something I was ever willing to worry about. Also like others, I'm not a housewife. I enjoy working outside the home. I still do most (read pretty much all) of the cleaning and cooking too.
Try to think of positives of your visa type and stop worrying about others. Really, concentrating on someone else's journey in a negative light only hurts you. It makes you angry and bitter. Think forward. Look ahead. Be positive.

CJC reacted to Darnell in SSN Needed for Marriage !!!!!!!!
eh - applying for a ssn is easy if it's a guy -
go into the ssa office, show passport and i-94, ask for save database lookup on name plus A# .
then if no typos on name or A#, apply, give over the ssa-5. then go back next day, get the number.
if there were typos (and it's a guy) then somethings wrong with the SAVE database - go to CBP deffered inspection office to get that fixed. then go back to ssa office a week later (updates are batched weekly).
Go Get Em, and Good Luck !
ps - if a usps problem, you won't know till you get into the SSA office - but DHS verification on a guy smells of either 1] incompetent human at ssa office or 2] a typo in the SAVE database.
