Well what other options do you have? Chose a country where you as an American don't need a passport and where your girlfriend won't have issues getting a visa if she needs one.

Woohoo! We did it! In all we had to wait for like 3 hrs before it was our turn for the interview but the interview itself only took 5 minutes :-D

This would not work in this case since you don't schedule your own appointment on a spouse visa... You'll get a date from the nvc. But you can of course reschedule, however you might have to wait for a very long time on your new appointement..

My senator has apparently been keeping an eye on my case the whole time. We asked for his help during the uscis stage cause it took so long. On friday I got an email saying good luck on my interview and looking forward having me a citizen of Alaska.
