Knope2012 reacted to rocks in GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME?
That is true.
I'm talking about in general, on the internet and in day to day life. In the south it is everywhere, people bring it up constantly. They are almost never "good people" who act in the best interests of others.

1. Are you suggesting that we cannot express how we feel about comments made by those who frequently allude to God in the most ridiculous ways? I'm not asking you not to believe in God, I'm expressing how I feel about 'faith'. I don't judge you for believing in that for which no evidence exists.
2. People in this world are not starving because of liberal, secular humanists greediness. They are starving because of the right-wingers selfishness and greediness in spite of their lip-service about being 'Christian'!

The following meme really says a lot:
The ignorance to think that you have a personal relationship with the creator of the vast universe. Full of hundreds and hundreds of billions of galaxies. All with hundreds and hundreds of billions of stars. Each star with its own solar system and surrounding planets. It is very humbling (well, maybe not right word) to try to get a grasp of the size of a few stars. Just a couple to put things into perspective.
What pisses me off is when I hear this type of personal relationship ####### with the creator of the universe. Just yesterday I seen on another forum a person saying "I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not but my cousin woke up from a coma the day after I prayed and asked God to wake him up".
You read the details and find out he had severe head trauma, was in a coma from a car accident, his brain was bleeding, and the poor guy will probably NEVER BE THE SAME. And here is this person that came along and made a few thoughts inside their brain and believes that they were intercepted by God. 2 things. You are not that special that "God" is watching you and answering your genie wishes. And 2 this was a horrific tragedy so throwing "isn't God great, He answered my prayer" into the equation of this tragic situation is truly ignorant.

I find it highly annoying that people always mention god. I don't go around pushing my views onto others, but I don't get treated the same way.

Assuming there is a God (impossible to prove or disprove) and assuming that this Male Being has a personal relationship with all the millions of species currently alive on our 4.5 billion year old planet. With 99.9% of all species ever known having gone extinct (meaning they were unable to survive and died out, usually in a brutal way).
We can conclude that He is not good all the time.
Most people live on less than $2 a day. With poor access to clean water and basic necessities (like food).
It would have been nice for Him to place a lot more fruits and naturally growing vegetables on His planet.
Walk into a children's hospital and see the suffering, go to a third world country, look at the mass starvation of Somalians. Starvation! That is a miserable way to die!
Turn on the news and listen to the natural occurring weather catastrophes that kill off millions per year. How many people die due to wars that are ALWAYS ongoing.
Google a few stats:
How many Americans are raped a year: "A woman is raped in America one time every 2 minutes"
It may sound like I am pessimistic but I'm not. This is just common sense. If you look around you see catastrophe after catastrophe.
I am optimistic about myself and many of the people I am in contact with. But if you look around and crunch the numbers you see a very cold, very poor very cruel world full of suffering.

Speak for yourself! Seriously....I work my butt off to pay for your child's SSI. Your "Living Voucher", the food you put into your mouth and the heating costs that you received FREE from our government is THANKS to my hard work. Get your head out of the sky and realize that MY hard work pays for your slack. Don't blame ME because you are now in a situation that you have no idea how to get out of. I'm sorry for whats happened to you (if theres any truth to it) but you got yourself in this mess. You need to figure how to get out without losing your children who means oh so much to you. I'm sorry for being rude or mean about this, but you asked for advice, people have given it to you based on THEIR DIY knowledge and you just keep coming up with excuses not to take any of it. I'm sorry you're stubborn and sorry for your children too.

I spent 10 years as a single father and not once did I use them as an excuse to break the law.
You claim the 9 year old can't live in Canada because of the cold climate yet you live in New York with all of the pollution and cold winters, I guess Canada doesn't have heating in the winter?
What kind of example are you setting for your children? Break the law when it works for you because you can get away with it... If the kids can survive NYC then why can't they survive Toronto, I would guess only because you want to live in the US.
If you really cared about what's best for your kids you'd move them to the place where you could actually work to support them and set a good example as a parent instead of being selfish & childish complaining about how bad your situation is. Get divorced, move to Canada and be a good Dad to your kids.

Wow. Just incredible.
I am here illegally. Just tell me how to make myself legal. I don't care about any other reasonable option like returning to my country.
Wow.

Knope2012 reacted to HelenBradley in Help, emergency!
It does not minimize the OP's suffering to remind her that it is not really an emergency. If he couldn't get surgery until she was there for some reason, no health care in his country, no money to pay for it, no way to get to the hospital then it's an emergency.
Having said that, I'd be very upset too and I'd want to be there. I think the poster you are upset with was trying to give the OP some perspective. What she said wasn't really callous.
OP: If it were me I'd contact the embassy and figure out if you can have an interview ASAP. Get your papers etc in order then if it's going to be a while, I'd go ahead and visit. I think if you got your NOA2 a month ago you should hear from them soon. Have you had your medical yet? Do you have the I-134 filled out and ready to go? I hope your fiance has family who can help him and you can concentrate on getting there with your K1 asap, because then you won't have to leave.
I wish you the best of luck!

I disagree and it's rather rude to call someone names because you don't like their response. A&B was simply answering your question. There are people on VJ who don't know/realize that this community is just a small fraction of the thousands of petitions being processed at the various Service Centers.

Knope2012 reacted to one...two...tree in THE MANDATE IS CONSTITUTIONAL
To all the RWN's, Teabaggers and such who thought the mandate was some kind of communist takeover and an abomination of our beloved Constitution, I'm currently accepting your apologies. Admit now that you were just got up in the moment and weren't really thinking with your head straight. Admit that sometimes, like the Incredible Hulk, you let your emotions overpower your rationality. I forgive you and I'm here to help. May I suggest some Yoga or Tai Chi.

Alas, free speech is not protected in this or any other private forum for that matter.
Having said that, speech here is not monitored or censored by any government branch, which is not the case in many other countries.

I wouldn't say I'm afraid, but I am a little uneasy that so many people don't seem to know what a dictator is.

Please don't lecture for me about partisanship with a post history like yours. Especially after you start a topic alleging Obama is a dictator, one of the most moronic titles I've ever seen posted here. With a spouse from the Phillipines, you should at least have some second hand knowledge of what a dictator is. I do, and here's a hint - you wouldn't be posting topics like this on an internet forum that allows free speech if the USA was run by a dictator.

This is great news for all of us Knope. I think most of our cases are probably sitting with an adjudicator. VSC just needs to green light a work on K1s day..We are all next in line. We get a big day with a focus on K1s and I think many of us will be seeing approval..Just wish they'd get on them..gah.

Iam a filipina and I feel so ashamed with the attitude of your wife. Don't let your kids go, sorry to tell, but your wife is so selfish.

Knope2012 reacted to DandT14 in She wants to go back Home (Philippines)
I hope I misunderstood you.
Your new wife wants you to give up custody of your two young boys, because she wants her own? Great. Tell her to go find a guy who doesn't have children. I hope you're not even considering this. Put her on the first plane back.
Do you have any idea the damage it would do to your boys if you ship them off, essentially reject them, in favor of "new" kids? You can't do that to them. If she doesn't want your boys then she doesn't want you. End this before she gets pregnant. She will never treat your boys like her own. Don't hurt them that way, please.

Incredible. She just found out you have these children with you? And now after arriving here tells you to sit them down and tell them they have to go? This is the most selfish thing I have seen here for quite awhile. I would never ask such a thing nor agree to it with anyone.
I would worry about the future demands and reactions.

I am sorry about the situation but no woman/man is worth giving up your kids. That is selfish of her to ask.

Knope2012 reacted to Penny Lane in GOT NOA2 IN 10 DAYS! NO EXPEDITE! THE SYSTEM DOES WORK!
You should not feel horrible. You got extremely lucky, and you should be happy.
It's the wording of your title that is mostly upsetting people, I believe. It's hard to claim the system works when there are so many people waiting up to 7 or 8 months for an approval when it's obvious that it can be done much quicker.
-
Knope2012 reacted to amberlynnloves in GOT NOA2 IN 10 DAYS! NO EXPEDITE! THE SYSTEM DOES WORK!
Congratulations but there are people who have filed in December/January still waiting. The system doesn't work. I am only on month 2 since getting my NOA1 and I am going insane waiting. So I don't know how people who filed in December/January are still waiting. I'd be sending letters to my congressman. I did recently send a letter to the President regarding immigration and why people who are doing it the right way (by filing all this paperwork and spending hundreds and thousands of dollars have to wait, but illegal immigrates who have been here illegally are able to stay). Its the most frustrating process ever. I'm blessed enough that my fiance only lives 7 hours from me, but thats still a long way. But for people who have an ocean separating them, my heart goes out to them. It really truly does.
I hope everyone's journey is quick like this. Its not fun to be put through the stresses and heartache of having to wait months and maybe even years to be with the one person that you want to be with the most. Its painful. Emotional and physically.

Knope2012 reacted to P+J in Any February 2012 filers?
I was only hoping to save some people the heartache with a dose of realism. I was very idealistic going into this. And it's good to keep the faith. Just always remember that what you hope will happen and what actually happens are 2 very separate things. And you have nothing to worry about at CSC. Approvals seem steady and consistent there right now. Until Vermont pulls its act together, it is impossible to say what we're all going to be looking at in terms of adjudication times. If the average VSC approval time is going to be around 160-170 days, it's just good to be prepared. I sincerely hope they can finish a substantial number of January petitions in the next 2 weeks. Problem solved. But I've learned not to count on anything with this process now. And for January it has not been about good luck on the draw. It has been a significant number of petitions with no activity. They've idled for months. And that is why we're all a bit confused. However, I do think this upcoming week will be better. It has to be. So hopefully this is the week that VSC pulls itself together and both CSC and VSC petitions get the attention necessary to move all of us forward toward reuniting with our loved ones. I'm rooting for all of us.
