After your petition is approved (NOA2), USCIS forwards your petition to NVC, it ALWAYS goes thru NVC but it usually stays there for a few days and then it goes to ur local embassy. If ur petition has been approved, u can call NVC to get ur case number. Note that it usually takes around 2 weeks (from NOA2) for NVC to be able to give u your case #.
you guys should check your Embassy Info, I can't tell u how it works after NVC since its different for every country.

They do send a letter to the petitioner but u can also go ahead and call. U dont necesarily have to wait for the letter, just call and ask if they got ur case number
-
Hello, Of course they are going to say "Allow 14 days". They do not want an overload in calls. I would say a week to 9 days is usually the norm for NVC to assign the new number. This is from what I have seen and heard over the past 7 months. The good thing is that once NVC as the case and issues a number it is usually out of the door in no time. Our case was sent electronically to the Consulate. Smile, you are very very close to completion
Wait, they send them electronically now??!?! That's awesome!! I wonder if they do that for all of them though. Probably not. They should though, makes so much more sense.
Now I know what u were talking about!!!!
LOL Sorry, did not read W&M post before.... I dont think they do that to the embassy in Mexico, I'm pretty sure they actually mail the petitions in bulk. Good thing they are already on their way to Juarez!
-
Thanks for the reply. Can you get the numbers by calling the NVC or do you just have to wait for the letter?
No, u dont have to wait! Call NVC to see if they received ur petition already and if they did, ask for ur case number and they will give it to you!

Huh?? Not sure what ur talking about...
Confused.. So when I call NVC what do I say to them or give them to find out if my case is there yet? Thanks and sorry for being thick at the moment..
when u call NVC they will ask you for receipt # first, then petitionary's name and date of birth and beneficiary's name and date of birth. Then u can ask for ur case number and (at least for the embassy in Mexico we need) also ur Invoice # and beneficiary's #.

same with me... my fiance got a text and I got an email ! the hard copy arrived a couple days later..

What's AP?
Administrative Processing... Nobody wants that to happen to their cases at NVC, just delays the process.. but no worries, u are safe now
-
What number do they give you at NVC? Is it differnt from the wac number and the A number that was on NOA2? Which number do you use make the Dr appointment?
Yeah, these numbers are different from the one in NOA2 (WAC...)... From NVC I got my case number (starting with CDJ since my interview will be in CD Juarez), I also got my Invoice number and beneficiary number.
-
so once u get ur case number from NVC it means that ur case is good to go??? or still can get stuck for AP??

I got my case number after 2 weeks of getting NOA2, sometimes is less sometimes more.
-
I got my NOA2 on may 17th and NVC got my case until may 31st (I found out until the next day though)... it took 2 weeks. I think they say it can take up to 4 weeks but hardly ever happens. Be patiente, its almost there!! Call again next week and make sure you talk to a live person, that Automatic Voice response does not seem to work very well!
-
yeah! That one should work! Good luck!!

my fiance just went to the local municipal police station and ordered the antecedentes no penales from the town that we live in, it was not a federal thing.. they actually charged us 115 pesos and told us it'd take 10-15 days to be ready, but at least we'll have it for the interview.
Some people say it's not necessary but we'd much rather be safe than sorry.
Yes, I totally agree with Nikolacolada, I also read a review (here in VJ) where the beneficiary did not take it to the interview and told the officer that the package 3 said he did not need it and the officer looked at him like he was lying, at the end he had no problems but of course I want to avoid all kind of issues at the interview, that's why I am bringing mine as well. I did exactly the same, went to my local police st and ordered, it was free and its going to take 3 days. No problems!
-
If I were you I would bring it, better to have more than less papers. I just got mine this morning, they r very easy to get and free of charge (at least in my town).
-
I typed both under city, kind of like this:
CITY......................................STATE
Monclova,(long space)Coahuila _ _
it probably does not matter though.
-- Oops It doesnt show as I wanted, hope u understand what I mean

you need to get a live person on the phone for sure. we still aren't in the AVR and we've been at the consulate for a week now
Yes!! after I called the AVR I tried with a live person and surprise!! They actually got it! still has not left though but at least I am glad I know is there by now, i was starting to worry, thanks!!
-
I called today and got my case number and everything! YAY!!! They said that they got my petition on the 17th (odd since that's the day I got approved) and it has not left NVC yet, the guy was very nice and he said that it should be leaving soon to Juarez!... I tried the AVR first and said they did not have any record of my case, then I talked to a live person and he said they actually did!! Might have been a coincidence but for the ones that have not gotten their case numbers yet, might be a better idea to speak to a real person and not the AVR! good luck!!
-
yes. i did check their automated service yesterday. i will check it again tomorrow...
Try talking to a live person, this morning I called and the AVR said they did not have any record of my case yet, a few hours later I talked to a real person and he said they did receive my petition since the 17th and gave me my case number, etc etc.... dont trust the AVR, might have been a coincidence but I would recommend talking to someone better!
-
we did INTEND as well

Hey all,
I was busy with a new job, so I didn't get a chance to update everyone on my case status. We received our NOA2 on 5/19 and I got the case number from NVC yesterday...FINALLY after 5 months things seem to be moving. I hope the momentum is not lost
I was approved 05/17 and NVC has not gotten our petition yet
At least thats what the AVR says. How long does it usually take?????
-
Hi. I dont really have any links, but I think the most important is:
Your annual income, since when have u been working there and if the position is temporal or permanent.
Good luck!
-
that's odd... it should be in cdj by now.
I know!!
I would hope I get the surprise soon that is already in cdj
but I dont think that will happen since I have been calling to the AVR and they got nothig yet
:(
-
I understand ur frustration
Don't loose hope, you are next!! fingers crossed!!
-
YAY! That gives me a little bit of hope, I was approved on 05/17 but have not called this week yet, probably will tomorrow. Do we also get an email from NVC when they receive the petitions?? Did not know that! I will be checking my phone like crazy now

in Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas

Im pretty sure is NOT legal to enter the USA intending to marry a USC on a tourist visa, but since u are already there I dont know how that will work, u need to prove that u had no intention when u first enter the US, How do u do that? I have no idea
. Be careful and investigate well before u decide to do it. Good luck and congrats!!!
