Why are we expecting products of different households to all behave a certain way? I've always found it kind of odd. Besides, we could also argue that many US teens pretty much only care about fashions, drugs, parties, and who they bang with, instead of the responsibilities of growing up.
Adding to that that probably very few parallels can be drawn between kids in the UK and kids in the US. Just saying.

We need better citizens, not easily fooled into supporting causes that do not favor them, that's what we need. But that's another topic!
As for what Canadians are doing, its their country. I have heard many go there on visas, learn English or French or both, have a good time, and then go back home. And many of those do it independent of their particular background. Many more who have stayed, do so and become contributing Canadian citizens.
Its tough times economically. And this is when the more intolerant sectors of society try to scapegoat immigrants en masse.

Indeed. This is what happens when you mix a little bit of political hackery with other things.
Better to have them show their worth instead of punishing them. I think a modern society would work so much better if people were rewarded for their positives instead of having the first reaction be instant punishment for their negatives.

My legal AND fair opinion is that these individuals that have grown up in the country, although illegal in immigration status, deserve a chance to couple their very much American upbringing with some kind of mechanism that allows them to 'balance' the negative aspect of their undocumented status due to their parents' actions with the 'positive' of some kind of national service that would 'prove' that they 'deserve' to stay.
This means that people that like to broadbrush everyone that isn't here legally (because they only think of things in one dimension, perhaps) will have to also justify their existence as one 'deserving' of the blessings the American legal, political, and economic system have conveyed upon them by just having been born here.
In my opinion, things like the DREAM Act, if properly explained- far, far away from idiotic rhetoric and legal absolutisms that don't abide by any notions of realism or social fairness, provide for avenues for illegal immigrant children to seek legitimate avenues to citizenship based on 'positive' contributions to the nation.
In my opinion there is also a sizable segment of the native born population that due to its own idiosynchratic laziness, fails to do anything much towards the common good. While I do not seek for their removal from this nation, to perhaps a place where they would learn to appreciate how good they have it here in comparison to so many other places, it would be awesome if they were kicked out of the country and came back as illegals.

What are your assumptions? For you to look at the entire population, you'd need a sizable representative sample to represent the entire population. Since you're not familiar with the actual toxicity, I might remind you the laws in place were created as a result of actual cases, over time. As in not now. Why? Because to my knowledge, homes with lead paint shouldn't exist right now.
Immunity to lead paint's effects? Yeah, read again the part about the toxicity.

If we were to bring in a historical context, most of the right's libertarian argument would pretty much invalidate. I think that more 'out there' branch of the right wing needs to be honest that while they may seek a strict Constitutionalist interpretation of the universe, they want to rollback the social and legal fabric of the nation to a prior historical context that does not exist any more, and would be catastrophic in a modern age.

No offense, but there's a lot more stock to be placed on a teenager that is cultured in one country without any real ties to another nation- and uprooted for sins committed by another. Besides, its doubtful the majority those deportees would enjoy the same level of financial aid you enjoyed at college.

It would be interesting to hear how people would react in this situation actually, especially those who are sometimes dogmatic about it.
I wonder if you asked any random person - if they found out tomorrow that they were brought here illegaly as a baby and were not a USC - would they voluntarily go to turn themselves to be deported? Would they get up and go to work tomorrow? Hide in the basement?
I don't know what I would do, but I doubt my first choice would involve getting dropped off in downtown Ciudad Juarez being able to speak only English.

It's a start (sarcasm) but when you post about an email, thinking you have proven what is the Faux News issue de jure; unions are greedy, violent defilers of all that is good, right and true blue American, you show signs of hackdom.
The emailer is a duesche on that we agree, and there were also pretty over the top statements made as well. These things reflect on the individuals responsible for them, not the Unions or their members as a whole.

I think the key difference between the two is the lack of placards and signs in Wisconsin depicting a black man as a chimp
Wisconsin is a state that is 91% white...it makes sense that their public sector workers reflect that reality, though I have noticed several protesters that were not white
