Hi VJers, I'm interested in hearing from those who have immigrated from the UK to the US and took student debt with them (specifically Student Finance England debt) and how to approached it. Before moving, my repayments were taken straight from my pay at my last employer. My last pay was in January and since moving to the US in mid-January, I have no income, my husband (USC) is the current sole earner. I'm aware that I should be updating my personal details with them, so that they can chase and rinse me for repayments keep their records up to date, but would like to hear about other's accounts before I move forward with it. Thanks.

Hi there, I m currently looking for some advice on navigating the U.S. visa process, and I d really appreciate any insights from those with experience. My girlfriend and I have both dreamed of moving to LA for a long time, and we re finally looking into making it happen. Here s the situation: she s a U.S. citizen but has been living in the UK for several years/was born here. While marriage is definitely one potential route, we re not quite ready for that step yet and personally, I d prefer to explore moving via employment sponsorship (H-1B or similar) if possible. I have a BA in Marketing and have several years of professional experience in the field (social media, brand, content, etc.), but I honestly have no idea where to even start looking for U.S.-based roles that might consider sponsoring international candidates. If anyone has advice on where to look for these kinds of roles, or has been through something similar, I d be super grateful for any pointers! Thanks so much in advance

Hi all, I'm from the UK and my wife is the USC. We submitted our I-130 in Q4 of 2024 and are currently waiting for a response. Given how long the processing time can be, I m trying to reduce any chance of an RFE. I just realised that some of the supporting evidence we submitted (like joint bills, auto and vacation insurance policies, and other miscellaneous documents) includes my shortened first name, rather than my full legal name. However, all official documents, such as our son's birth certificate, the I-130 form itself, and my driver's license use my full legal name. I've seen posts on Reddit where people received RFEs asking them to clarify name discrepancies, and I d really like to avoid that if possible. Would it be a good idea to proactively submit unsolicited evidence to clarify that the shortened/preferred name and my full legal name refer to the same person? I was thinking of drafting an affidavit stating this, and attaching scans of my passport, driver s license, and birth certificate in a concise PDF. Or is that unnecessary at this stage? Thanks

I am a UK citizen living legally in the US on a PRC, having married a US citizen back in 2022. The visa process was long but straightforward, and I've been here almost a year now. At the end of January 2026, the 90-day window opens for me to file to remove the conditions on my PRC. Given the current climate and issues in the US currently, I'm concerned they won't process this at all, or delay it until my current PRC expires, then make me leave. The fact I'm here legally doesn't seem to be the safety blanket I hoped it would be... Anyone have any thoughts/advice/experience with this? Should I be worried? TIA

What does it mean to be "Out of Status" (past K1 visa expiration and have not filed AOS) |

My husband came to America in October 2024 on a K1 visa. We married in November. He went "Out of Status" in January and we are working on applying for his Adjustment of Status. We weren't able to file before January but have most of the application complete aside from the I-693 because we have to get his HepB shot and see a civil surgeon. This may be a silly question but I'm just hoping for a bit of reassurance because we're very anxious. A federal judge is allowing the current administration to move forward with a requirement for illegal immigrants to register with the federal government and carry documentation. We're both worried that his "Out of Status" classification means that he is here illegally and will be required to register. I'm hoping you all might be able to explain how this works and where my husband would fall into it, if at all. And of course, we're working on getting his AOS application completed ASAP! Thank you so much for any help you might be able to give us.
