Hi all, we received our approval notice from USCIS on Nov 11th, but haven t got any email or mail from NVC.

We tried to contact NVC through the email address on the approval notice but received an automated reply that asked us to go to a website (Travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html). We filled out the form but still got nothing back from them.

It has been more than a month, I would like to ask is this normal? I saw many other who received approval around the same time as us but got email from NVC much earlier. I would appreciate any assistance. Thank you very much.

For those who needs to evaluate your degree, stay away from USCES (U.S credential evaluation service)

Form i-944 requests applicants to evaluate their oversea degrees. I did my research and came across some recommendations on USCES (source: reddit), aka the U.S credential evaluation service.

Their website looks professional, their online customer service react very fast even after business hours, and they claim their evaluation has 100% USCIS approval rate. What's even better is they have reasonable price for rush service and they are willing to work with photocopies. They have nice review on trustpilot and review.io. They even have an office in New York. So I decided to give it a try.

I ordered the two business day service, which includes a certified translation of my Chinese credentials and a general evaluation report. I paid at 9 am. but they won't count the day I paid as the first business day. I thought ok I'd wait. From their online system, I can see they romanized my Chinese name wrong. I contacted the customer service to change it, they asked me to provide evidence so I gave them my passport info and my u.s driver license.

During the wait I started to google more about this company. On LinkedIn I found out most of their employees are living in Philippines. Their New York office is no longer in use, the NY office phone number now belongs to a music production company. They claimed their headquarter is in Laredo, Texas, but I found multiple companies, including a construction company, under the same address. Their texas office phone number also belongs to another evaluation service called crediteval.

I started to rush them since I no longer trust them and I haven't received anything after 24 hours. They were supposed to send me the first version of translation to review, before they proceed to the evaluation. After I got the translation, I only got more angry. Whoever translated those documents definitely don't speak Chinese. They translated "higher education" into "high school education." They translate Bachelor of Arts degree into Art Degree diploma. And, they still have my name spelled wrong. My B.A degree from an accredited university became a high school diploma according to their translation. Honestly, google translate can do a better job.

I complained at their customer service and left a bad review on review.io. They blocked me from their website. I can no longer chat with the customer service. I got my refund from them tho, but the whole process is a waste of time and energy. I also feel sick because some sketchy company has all my personal information.

"Proof of immigration status" for health insurance

Hi,

My wife entered the US on a K1 visa in September 2019, got married, and applied for AOS for my wife in October 2019. 14 months later, still waiting for interview to be scheduled.

In the mean time, need to renew our health insurance for next year.

We live in California and I don't have employer-based insurance, so we go through our state exchange (Covered California).

One of the things required in the Covered California application is "Proof of Immigration Status" for my wife.

They list several different types of proof (quoted below), but unless I'm mistaken, I don't believe my wife has any of these listed documents because none of them are applicable for K1-to-AOS applicants. My best guess is to select the last choice "Other documents" and upload scanned copies of her AP/EAD card, or the I-797 from her AOS petition.

Just wondering if any other K1-to-AOS California-based VJers have used Covered California before and what they provided as proof of status.

Thanks

Approximate chances of getting an interview?

Is there a rough statistic out there of what % of I-751s are interviewed? I've heard anything from 2% all the way up to 50% LOL.

My wife adjusted from a B2 visa a while back and the interview was no problem. We have a kid together, own two cars and a house jointly, all finances comingled, etc and will soon file the I-751. Just curious how likely is it that we get (another) interview.

Cancelling Chinese Hukou in the U.S. - how to do it???

Hey all,

It's been ages since I've posted on this forum - it was heaps of help for my wife's journey. She's now U.S. citizen - the journey starting roughly in 2003... from packets, to green cards and finally as of a few of years ago, citizenship :) .

I come back with a question that I'm hoping someone knows the answer to. My wife is originally from Beijing and is needing to cancel her hukou stateside for various reasons. Has anyone had any experience with how to do this - the proper way and what you to do in order to get it done ;o ? We keep on coming up with conflicting information, so we're hoping someone here may know a few answered to this mess :) .

General things we've come across so far / questions:

-We're not sure if what she needs to write to the local office in Beijing needs to be notarized or not (I assume by the embassy in Washington DC if it does?

-It looks like her passport page needs to be translated.

-My wife has changed her last name to my family name, but everything is registered in China under her maiden name. Her old, expired Chinese passport has a note that she is "aka" my family name, but how do we get around this hiccup? It's not the first time we've stumbled into this situation ;o .

Anywho, thanks all in advance for any help and here's a happy end to the year ^^ (hopefully)!!!
