16 hours ago, S9471 said: ah yes, although that's not entirely accurate - taxes and entitlements for social benefits are also tied to the time spent outside the country and in the province you might be in. you can have US green card and still live a chunk of time in Canada to be eligible. Social benefits stop the they you endorse the visa. Endorsing the visa tells Canada you are leaving and no longer a Canadian resident. BC is a bit different (there may be another province) as in BC you pay into the provincial health care 30 days in advance. You will continue to have health care in BC for the rest of those 30 days. Now when ppl mention being gone from Canada and returning within a certain time frame to keep their health care that only applies to situations like college kids, snowbirds etc.. As they are not moving permanently away from Canada. When you activate that visa you are telling Canada your gone permanently. Sure life changes and ppl return back but then you also have a waiting period before you qualify for things again.

Hi All, So I had my n400 interview today after 5 years of having a green card. Most of the interview went well. I passed for the most part except for an exactly 180 day trip I took in 2020 during the height of covid. Initially, I went back home to visit my family in Canada for about a month but when covid hit my flight back was canceled by the airline and to be honest I was terrified to get on a plane with the situation the way that it was. Anyways, I ended up spending exactly 180 days out of the country. The officer said she couldn't approve my case before she saw some evidence that I didn't abandon my residency. I told her I had the evidence in hand but she said, "No." She would send me a letter and I would have to mail her the evidence. Then she would make a decision. I have plenty of evidence, taxes, home ownership, hoa payments, insurance, car lease, bills etc. My question is, has someone on here successfully handled this type of letter? Also what can I do to convince the officer that it was temporary and had everything to do with covid and not any kind of plan to let go of my GC or citizenship application. Also, for those who may ask, I didn't get a re-entry permit. Thanks, Sara

I had a joint I-751/N-400 combo interview 3 weeks ago. I was told I d be approved for both applications and the officer explained he couldn t put them both through in the computer at the same time. I got a paper saying a decision could not be made at this time but he did tell me that s due to the computer issues and that he d process it as soon as the system allowed him to. I got my I-797 notice of action with my I-751 application receipt number in the mail yesterday with the following message: We have approved your I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence. Our records also indicate we have approved your form N-400, Application for Naturalization. Because we also approved your N-400, you will not receive a new Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card). Instead once you have taken the Oath of Allegiance, you will receive a Certificate of Naturalization, which will be proof of your U.S. citizenship. If you have questions regarding this process, pleasecontact the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283. However I haven t received a I-797 NOA with my N-400 application receipt number and my N-400 case status online still looks like this: Has anyone else found themselves in this kind of a situation? If so, can anyone share how this went for them so I know what to expect? Any anecdotal experiences would be appreciated. Trying to reach out through the USCIS customer service line has been unsuccessful for me as the automated service won t re-direct to a live agent whenever I ve tried.

Hello Everyone, I just received my notice to appear for Interview yesterday and is scheduled on March 31, 2022. My mom was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer, and I have planned to take a trip to the homeland to provide support on her chemo. I had also applied for FMLA so i could stay out of work longer than my PTO allows. My FMLA is already approved My trip will be on April 21 to May 29. I am confused whether I should take the interview or call to reschedule or just go and request my oath taking after my trip (if this is even possible) as I heard oath taking can be same day if approved on the spot. It's a bit complicated to change my FMLA as well. As much as I really want this interview, my mom's life and chemo journey is also very important to me. I even attempted to write to the officers regarding my trip and uploaded it to the website stating that if they are ready to schedule me, if they could do it after June 1 and provided them my travel dates (It was a long shot but worth a try) Any thoughts? Not sure which is the best route: 1) Take the interview, see if I am eligible for same day Oath and apply for expedited passport 2) Take the interview, request to schedule oath after my return if i cannot do it same day (if this is even possible) 3) Call now to reschedule

If applying online, right before starting I-130 application it is stated: Documents you may need The following is a list of documents everyone filing this form must provide: - 2x2 passport photograph
- Birth certificate (with English translation, if needed)
- Proof of citizenship or lawful resident status
- Proof of family relationship
We will automatically inform you which documents and additional evidence you may need to provide as you fill out your application. These recommendations for additional information will be based on the information you provide in the application, such as your personal history, family, and circumstances. I assume it is beneficiary's photo that is required. On the other hand, I-130 pdf paper form instructions does not list photograph as required. For those who applied online, did you scan and included 2x2 passport photograph? Thank you.
