As a newbie, sometimes you come across an abbreviation you haven't seen before, but that everyone else is throwing around without any trouble, and it takes a while to figure out what it stands for, or to look it up, and you might feel too embarrassed to show ignorance by asking. This can be especially difficult when English is not your first (or even second or third) language.

(It took me a while to figure out that OP meant "Original Poster" - as in "Person Who Started The Thread", instead of being a reference to Opie Taylor)

Well, here is a one-stop-shopping list.

Commonly Used VJ Abbreviations

  • ACA = Agent of Choice and Address (DS-3032 form)
    AOS = Adjustment of Status
    AOS = Affidavit of Support (I-864 form)
    AP = Administrative Processing
    AP = Advance Parole
    AR = Administrative Review
    BC = Birth Certificate
    BTS = Border and Transportation Security
    CBP = Customs and Border Protection
    CIS = Citizenship and Immigration Services
    CSC = California Service Center
    DCF = Direct Consular Filing
    DHS = Department of Homeland Security
    DOS = Department Of State
    EAD = Employment Authorization Documents
    GC = Green Card
    ICE = Immigration and Customs Enforcement
    IMBRA = International Marriage Broker Regulation
    INS = Immigration and Naturalization Service
    NC = Naturalization Certificate
    NCSC = National Customer Service Call Center
    NOA = Notice of Approval
    NSC = Nebraska Service Center
    NVC = National Visa Center
    OMB = Office of Management and Budget
    OP = Original Poster
    POE = Point Of Entry
    PR = Permanent Resident
    RFE = Request For Evidence
    SC = Service Center
    SO = Significant Other
    SSC = Social Security Card
    SSN = Social Security Number
    TSC = Texas Service Center
    USC = United States Citizen
    USCIS = United States Citizenship and Immigration Services
    USG = United States Government
    VJ = Visa Journey
    VSC = Vermont Service Center

Everyone: Feel free to copy and add other often-used VJ abbreviations.

Moderators: Feel free to move this if you feel there is a more appropriate place for it. (I didn't know where else to put it!)

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I thank you for your answer. I also apprecitate the fact that you answered without talking down to me. It seems as though forums of any nature have members who get their jollys off by being "very smart"

I thank you again
