This is a house address, no unit #'s or anything complicated. There are 2 others living at the house (husband and wife), and they both have lived there for about 5 years. I'm staying with them for the time being, while husband is back and forth from deployment. My name was added to the mailbox out front back in Dec. I did the AR-11 change of address for me in November. Everything else arrives no problem (SSN, bank statements, personal mail, etc)...

I called today, the lady first tells me, that its a problem with the post office, and go to them to find out whats going on. I explained to her that I have been to them twice now, and made sure my name was added. So, then she proceeds to take my address again (same one I changed it to on the AR-11, and same the same one I gave them again, back in Jan, when the GC was first sent back).. but then she tells me, its hasn't more than 60 days since my last update and the system won't let her in to make any changes, even through the case status update online tells me it was returned again and to call their 1-800 to update my address....UGH! She ends up telling me there is nothing she can do, and I have to call and make an infopass app't, and see if they can override the system and get in to do an update. (I'm not even trying to update, i'm trying to confirm they have the right address, which she can't tell me, cuz she can't see my file!)...

So, I tell my husband, he then calls them back.. (he's mad now.. LOL).. he gets a different woman on the phone, who simply tells him to do another AR-11 for me, call her back in 72hrs with the confirmation #, and she will have GC sent out again, and apologized for the first woman telling me to make an info pass app't and saying there was nothing I or she can do.

ok heck that is awful !!!!!

I am so glad I am through it for now ....

Sounds like you have a good contact there so as long as you speak to that contact it should be ok

It sounds to me like they have messed up their address file somehow.

I assume you got your SS number after a visit to the SS office ? If it came from the visa application then that should be the same address as on the green card file - unless someone manually copied it across and got it wrong.

I got my green card sent to my pal's address in Atlanta where I have never lived and I am not known to the post office. You can ask for that on the visa application form (where to send GC if different)

So all this about the local post office not knowing you live at the house is a red herring and nothing to do with it

So long as it's a valid address and there are no 'forwarding' instructions at the PO, then it WILL be delivered if the address on the file is correct

good luck - it's sounds hopeful now

It seems like the USCIS people do not know how to update the addresses or do not know how to use computers. We also changed our address at the POE and still the card was mailed to the old address, we were lucky that the old address is where my brother in law lives, otherwise I would be under the same circumstances as you.

As the story goes on...

I called USCIS and complained that my GC is not here, 2 months after the welcome letter.

They gave me a Reference number and told me to call back if I receive nothing in the next 45 days.

I will post here in 45 days then

Good thing I have my passport with the visa as a GC backup

My GC update:

After the I-90 B was rejected by TSC (even though we followed the instructions obtained from the very TSC via our congressman), yesterday we were told to refile the I-90 B with the copy of the rejection letter to the TSC with attention to a person who was in touch with our congressman's aide. Today we sent it off with delivery confirmation and signature required. We will have the congressman's aide write a follow up letter to make sure we do get the GC.

Almost a year since POE entry and no GC - good thing I have other forms of ID with longer validity :-)

Good news!

4/15 I-90B received and on 4/17 I receive CRIS email saying "card production ordered".

At last ! big congrats it will be there really quickly now

I know you won't believe until you get your hands on it - but it is coming v soon

Enjoy it !

I am on the way to Washington state where aliens are subject to jim crow laws made to disenfranchise black people who were non- citizens - I cannot even have a .22 target rifle.

In other States you will feel a 'real' person with your green card - equal at last except for voting

Its great to just flash it every time they ask a question in a bank or car insurance or driver's license office or just anything - it feels powerful.

enjoy it ! alan

Milimelo,

I would like to know how you contacted your congressman and what you wrote in your letters to get a new card. I am in a similar situation waiting for a new card, but my card had errors on it. It has been 5 months since we filed an I-90, so we do have another month to wait before we can take it further. The USCIS were of no help. We really don't want to drive 4 hours to LA to talk with some uneducated person about this. They were of no help last time. I am fed up with them all!! The US consulate started the errors, the immigration officer at our POE continued the errors and then the stupid person at USCIS kept giving us the wrong info at our infopass appointment. Only idiots work for the State dept!!

Any advice would help!!!

11-05-06 Sent I-130 to California

06-01-07 INTERVIEW

06-04-07 Received VISA in the mail. Silly Consulate issued me CR-1 instead of IR-1, no time to change it in Australia, will try to change it once in California.

06-10-07 POE SFO

06-21-07 Receive SSN#

07-12-07 Receive Green Card in the mail STILL HAD CR1 INSTEAD OF IR1

12-10-07 Finally sent I-90 asking for a new green card with correct info.

06-17-08 INFOPASS - Was told USCIS sent new green card to old address back in Jan. Will resend it but may not be able to correct error as it was made by Consulate not USCIS.

What to do now??

I've got it!!! On Monday I received another CRIS email saying they mailed it and just as I was about to call my husband he called me saying we got the GC!!! All was correct so now I have the GC!

Alan, one question - did you get the paper with the card that says you should use the top portion with the bar-code for removal of conditions stage (I know you got the 10-year one but thought I'd ask in case someone knows)?

Just an update to my post above!

Yeah, call the girl back in 72 hrs, what a joke! They wouldn't talk to my husband without me on the phone 3-way???? He told her he didn't need me on the phone 3 days ago when he spoke to the other lady, and she told me I should've been on the phone and that they won't talk to us without both of us on the phone!!! He was calling them from work, so we had to wait until the next day so we could both be on the phone. First time I heard that one. Of course, we get a different lady, who has no idea why we are trying to give the confirmation #??? She gave my husband the Military Helpline #, but again said, if we don't hear or recieve anything in the next 45 days, to call them back... Which we then called the Military Line to see if they could help, in which they did. This woman gave me all kinds of info on file, was very nice and very helpfull. Said she would make sure they got the address change and have the card re-sent.

Anyway, the card finally arrived to the 3rd address we gave them approx 2 weeks ago. 6 months later, 2 address changes, 2 returns back to DHS by the post office saying the GC was "undeliverable"...... What a process! I think I need a stress leave!

What a process! I think I need a stress leave!

It took me months to get over the stress... As an 'alien' I am treated second class by law in WASHINGTON STATE with their 'alien firearms license' (phasers on stun ?) which is now unavailable, but I just don't care any more as long as they leave me alone.

I can always travel 200 miles to Oregon or Idaho or Canada if I want to feel equal

Yes it's nice when you have the GC thing behind you- just great - now don't lose it !

  • 1 month later...

My green card/I-90 update -

I had my info pass appointment yesterday and was told that it took about 6 weeks after I sent the I-90 to them producing a new card.

It also had the same incorrect info on it. USCIS sent the new card to our old address even though I had already completed an AR-11 last year and put the new address on the I-90. Because it was sent to the old address it was returned and it may now have been destroyed because it has been just over 6 months and I didn't claim it. Even though the USCIS said you have to wait 6 months to do anything about the I-90. AGHHH!! I had also called them after they produced the new card asking for updates, they told me nothing, just wait 6 months!!

And if we do get the card it will have errors on it still. USCIS said we have to talk to the Dept. of State to correct it as it was their fault. If the card has been destroyed we have to file another I-90 and pay $370 for a new card. They could've have called us to let us know the card had been returned. Why do we even bother with providing personal contact details on every from if they don't use them??

Now the Dept. of State claims that the issue lies with USCIS beause I am now in the US and fall under their jurisdiction. What am I supposed to do? They keep blaming each other and not getting off their fat butts and actually do some productive work!!

So I have now contacted 2 Senators here in Califonia, one Congressman, the Dept. of State and the Consulate in Sydney asking for their help.

You think it will work? :help:

Milimelo,

late better then never - congrats on beating the system!

I admire you!

I don't think I'll have the guts to do the same...

I have to wait until get back to US to file I-90. Those are rules, much as they don't make any sense.

I (they) have lost my card in the mail.
