Wow these stories and timelines are great!

Can anyone help me out, Im from Toronto and my fiance is in Illinois. Can anyone from Canada let me know what the approx. length of time is to obtain the fiance visa(k1)? Were planning an October wedding and im afraid the timing will mess everything up!

Spoke to a few lawyers and they are charging me an arm and a leg...and also telling me the K! process takes well over a year :(

HELPPPP!!!

MareBear, I know exactly how you feel... but to be honest with you, the hardest part for my situation wasn't the paperwork at all, it was the waiting. Try filling out the paperwork yourself. This site helped tons and I couldn't have done it without the assistance of everyone on this website. I wish you luck and success! Feel free to PM me if you have a question or feel like you're getting overwhelmed. I'm an amazing cheerleader!!!

I will help if you fill some information on your timeline even though you haven't filed yet. The USCIS portion is taking around 4-5 months at the moment (the 2 service centres VSC and CSC have slightly different timings). The consulate times will also vary depending on where you live. If you come under Vancouver then interviews are scheduled in a couple of months but if you live in Montreal's area they are taking 4-5 months.

17th March 2010 - Started the removal of conditions process

22nd March 2010 - Application received by CSC

30th April 2010 - Biometrics appointment

Thanks for the infor Rosemarie, so do I get to choose whether I have the interview in Vancouver rather than Montreal? Basically looks like the whole process might take 9 months...thats cutting it close to our wedding date :(

Glad to see you have only 3 days left to see your other half. Im very happy for you! :)

Thanks :) . Unfortunately the choice of consulate relates to where you live or everyone would be choosing Vancouver. One option, if it is available to you, would be to move to the Vancouver catchment area so that your case gets processed quicker. I am not sure which areas come under which consulate. This might be a question better asked in your regional forum.
