2007-10-19 Online status says petition is approved!!!
2007-11-15 Received letter from NVC indicating that approved petition received and will be forwarded with a week to Kathmandu. OMG!!! I can't wait!
2007-11-24 Rajan picks up packet 3 from consulate
2007-11-27 Rajan submits packet 3 and receives interview date of 11-29 on same day. Consulate later calls to say all 11-29 interviews postponed until 12-04.
2007-12-03 Rajan has interview and visa is approved!
2007-12-13 After numerous calls and e-mails, finally Rajan got the call that the visa was ready to pick up. Yay! Visa and one-way ticket to the U.S. in hand and 7 more days until I see him!
2007-12-22 Wasting no time at all, Rajan and I were married in a very simple civil wedding, no rings, no pictures, with my mother as witness. I cried like a baby. We celebrated with family two days later on Christmas eve at the reunion. We plan to have a larger Hindu/Catholic wedding this year with friends and family in attendance.

Port of Entry Review
Event Date
Port of Entry : Los Angeles
POE Date : 2007-12-21
Got EAD Stamp : No
Biometrics Taken : Yes
Harassment Level : 5
Comments : It took 2+ hours for Rajan to exit from international arrivals at LAX. Apparently there were 3 checkpoints for him (2 immigration checks and 1 customs check) and they interrogated him intensely. Rajan says they asked him nearly 50 questions from "How did you meet?" to "Why don't you have a return ticket?" They seemed not to believe his story about how we met and fell in love. He was escorted to the exit and I was even questioned by customs officer: Q:"When are you getting married?" A:"ASAP!" Q:"Are you going to file an extension for him?" A:"Yes, if needed." He looked perplexed and a little angry, I have no idea why, and ended with, "Be sure you get married within 90 days". I was peeved. Anyways, it doesn't matter now. Rajan is here!

2008-06-10 Although I forgot my birth certificate and recent tax returns, our interviewer wasn't angry, but instead was very interested in how we met and listened to me intently. The interview, if you can call it that, comprised of him verifying the details of my husband's personal information. He did this very quickly looking only at the paperwork in front of him. It felt more like an ID check before you enter a club in Vegas. I was nervous, but husband stayed cool and breezed through it. I almost screamed when he said we were approved!!! Then he took away Rajan's unused AP docs and EAD card, stamped his passport with the I-551 and voila, conditional permanent residency. We received a letter a few days later indicating that the card was in process and to expect its arrival in about 3 weeks from the notification.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
