I can understand why people are reluctant to let their children use the internet without intense supervision and respect their motivation. But, unfortunately, this will not prevent them from accessing these types of sites through school, friend's computers or internet cafe's if they want to badly enough.

Cyberbullying is beginning to be taken very seriously in the UK along with abusive text messages. Kids need to be educated that it is wrong, that it can be dealt with (legally) and to know whether they are unwittingly doing the same to others (some of them don't even realise they themselves are bullies). I am shocked, however, that this particular case has not received some legal/criminal attention.

I have to say though, if you have ever used a chatroom or forum then you will have come across bullying on a more regular basis than you think...mostly subtle but sometimes quite shockingly overt. I'm not surprised about these adults encouraging it, seems to me that behind the anonymity the internet offers that many adults sometimes forget how their comments might impact on another person's feelings. I guess these particular parents have learned their lesson now though. Very sad it had to come to this.

The thing that really pisses me off is that the parents that did this to Megan got away with no consequences. And people wonder why kids are the way they are nowadays.

Nope not at all, I was referring just to the fact of how many adults blame it all on the children's behavior from video games, movies, etc, when a lot of it just stems from the adults in their lives.

Everone who has ever BEEN a teenager(show of hands) knows how volitile emotions can be....how the least little remark can send you off into a "everybody hates me" spiral....for this mother(who was once a teenager and is the mother of a teenager) to even come up with the idea to trick a teenage girl into assuming a boy liked her is disgusting.....every single one of us while teenage girls have been crushed by a boy at sometime in our lives....we know the feeling of rejection and some of us never get over the "Im just not good enough" feeling...which leads us to make poor partner choices in the future. This alone should have stopped that mother from deciding this was some kind of good plan....the tragic result should not go unpunished...she knew she was setting this girl up for some sort of "fall" at the end when all was revealed...the fact that the girl killed herself just proves me right. We cant all handle rejection when it comes by chance or through a proper relationship...for us to be "set up" from the start for that rejection is nothing less than criminal. That mother should be have criminal charges brought against her and her daughter should have councelling to teach her that bullying and lying to people to get some information is not how we treat each other. Sounds like military tactics to me.
