LOL Britty :thumbs::lol:

Isnt it amazing how the older generation would have never put up with this sort of thing.......whereas parents today are either too afraid to or have a lack of interest in correcting their own child.

Its unforunate that some parents let the police sort them out..... :huh:

Well, I do think it is at least partially the parents' fault. Did the mother deserve to get punched or have their son act up like that? No, of course not. But if they had taught him self-control (and perhaps disciplined him better, like many parents fail to do today), maybe these events wouldn't have occurred.

I'm not suggested that all of the blame lie on the parents, however. If the kid was playing Halo 3 then he was probably old enough to know the difference between "right" and "wrong" (although if the child was young, the parents shouldn't have bought him Halo 3 either, but that's another topic...) and shouldn't have behaved the way he did. Although there are numerous details left out of the story, such as how well the family unit gets along (do they continually argue with each other?), possible substance abuse, psychological disorders, and stress. All of those could affect how someone reacts.

As far as "video games causing violence," I think it's lunacy. I've played some of the most violent games ever created and done some truly awful things in them (my fiancee just doesn't understand why I felt the need to run over pedestrians minding their own business in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) and yet, I've never harmed or killed anyone in real life. I wouldn't either, unless my family or I was in danger.

The argument that "kids shouldn't be playing violent games" seems weak to me. Of course children shouldn't be playing games entitled Grand Theft Auto or Soldier of Fortune! I didn't think we'd need MENSA-level Ph.D. researchers to figure this one out! Guess what? Those games aren't made for kids! They're rated "M" which means "Mature" (17+) and were developed with adults in mind. If the name doesn't give it away (who in their right mind would buy their seven year-old a game called Grand Theft Auto?), then perhaps the rating, pictures or description on the box itself might tip the purchaser off that the game isn't for their 1st Grader.

This sort of thing really doesn't take being a genius, folks. It only requires a little common sense. ;)

Stuff like this probably happens all the time. I know someone whose teen Son hit her at work! He was waiting at work for her to finish up for the day, so he was there for a couple of hours and getting impatient so she turned to him and said look just let me finish this up here first and then we can get out of here.

He turned around and hit her and she landed on the floor!!!!

My only question is, what would ever give your child any indication that it is even remotely ok within the realm of this world to hit you?

Some parents won't disipline their kids. Some parents don't want to seen as an authority figure, they want to be friends. Some kids are just plain spoiled. A lot of kids are put on mind altering drugs nowdays for depression or add/adhd. I'm sure there are a number of factors involved.

It's sad to think that kids nowadays do not know what the difference is between right and wrong. How medicated/undisciplined/spoiled do you have to be in order to lose that kind of moral judgment?

THis is definately the parents fault. Looks to me like they never bothered to teach the kid respect or any other of the basics. Think about it they called the cops because they couldn't disipline their own kid. If my kids were to pull such a stunt woe unto them for a very long time. Call the cops to control your kid Sheeeesh!!

Sharri

When my brother and I were naughty, my nan would would come down on us like a ton of bricks. If we were brave enough to carry on with whatever minor infringement it was, she would whack the living daylights out of us and make sure we had no dinner. She also loved us dearly and we loved her. She could scare the living s**t out of us but we respected her and followed the rules (mostly). Nowadays you can't even verbally chastise a kid without being scrutinised by some do-gooder shouting child abuse. I think parents are definitely too frightened to discipline kids these days. The brat that hit his mother needs a good few slaps across the backs of the legs, with all computer playing privileges revoked.
