I have two question:

if I get my package 3 from Embassy here, should I show the affidavit of support? how can my wife do that for me?

I know only she should fill a form "I-134 or I-864" out. Where should she go after filling that? She must only fill it out and

send it to me?

Can you give more information about that? It is very important for us to know that...

My second question is, can I get my police certificate before I get my package 3 from the Embassy?

Thank you!

Hello everyone,

Here to update you on my case. I called NVC last night just to hear once again that my I-129 had not been received at the NVC and it was 4 weeks yesterday since approval. I just got off the phone with USCIS and talked to an amazingly nice, helpful lady. Usually don't come across ones this nice from there. I told her the problem and she got on the phone with NVC to see if my information had made it to NVC and, of course, they told her no. She got back on the phone and took my home phone number, cell phone number, and my name, and said she was ordering my file back from the National Records Center because she thinks maybe they forwarded the whole file, I-130 and I-129, there instead of splitting them up and forwarding the I-129 to the NVC. She said it should take no more than 4 weeks for it to reach the NVC. She said it could take up to 2 weeks for the file to come back to her. She actually gave me her name in case I had not heard from her in the two-week time period she gave me. I actually felt like I was treated like a human with feelings for a change. I hope that is all the problem is and maybe it won't take the two weeks she told me. I can only hope!

Thanks for listening,

Deb

Hi everyone,

I have read through all of the posts in this thread since I was last here. I have been away from VJ for some time. Congrats to all those who got approved and have visas in hand (C&J, edp, et. al).:thumbs: I want to thank edp333, wintime, cheryl of C&J and all of my VJ friends for their thoughts. A special thanks to Cheryl for taking over the chart in my absence also.

Ed, you are right in that tax season is keeping me busy, and it has been good as it provided me something to take my mind off the journey.

We finally have an interview date, it is April 23, 8:00 AM. I got this info on Friday the 25th of Jan, but was too heartbroken to come and post it here. As you can imagine, it is a long way off. I was so shocked when I heard that was our date, I could not move, I could not breathe, I could not think. I just wanted to throw the phone at the window (yes at, not out, I just wanted some glass broken). We will miss our anniversary, V-day, and so much more. Another 3 months apart, a full freakin quarter of the year (and of course LEAP DAY has to be included because of all the years for a leap year....). I was darn near distraught. I am doing better now, I couldn't bring myself to come here and post this info, even though I know I could count on my fellow VJers for support. I found out by calling DOS, and I couldn't even bring myself to tell Layla for a day. The embassy confirmed the date Tuesday.

I didn't go to visit Layla for Christmas as was my original plan just before our USCIS approvals. Because we had our approval in October, I thought we would have an interview just after the holidays (if not before), and I wanted to be there for that and I couldn't go in January if I just got back in December. So I didn't go even though I was off for 10 days, more lost time thanks to Uncle Sam. This is too frustrating. This thread will probably be clear by the time our interview rolls around. I am happy for all of you, BTW. Our friend gogo might still be here waiting for his interview around the same time (if not before).

I remember when KingsleyPrincess was upset in early January because of a March 10 interview date. I said at that time that the time will pass quickly, at least you know the date. I know that advice applies here too, its just April is soooo far away.

That brings me to the last point on this rant, which is, why is our interview so late? Our embassy had a wait time of 2-3 weeks in November, and a friend of mine went through this embassy and had to wait 3 weeks for an interview in July. So I get tortured with this wait why? Understaffing at embassy, disfavor with DOS, who knows? The holidays held up the scheduling well into January, ok. I can accept that, but when they schedule, it has to be so late. Come on, they are not that busy, they are sitting around doing what for all those months?

Also, I just wanted to add one more point for Kathryn, DivineMercy. Your sig says you abandoned your CR1, but I also noted in a post that you paid the fee bills. I would suggest that you pursue the K3, but keep the CR1 going by responding to the various docs that go with it. You might actually get an interview scheduled for you K3, and if your CR1 case is complete and makes it to Lagos, you might be able to get the CR1 on the K3 interview date (if they are done at the same place) like people used to do back in the day. I only mention this because the first thought I had when I got our interview date was, man, Uncles Sam screwed me again. If both petitions went on to NVC like before, I could have worked to get my CR1 case completed (with or without James' shortcuts the K3 interview is 5 months after the I129F got to NVC), and had this K3 interview on the schedule and then used the slot

to get the CR1 interview when my case made it to the embassy in March/early April. Unfortunately, that can't happen for us, even though we are waiting so long for the interview, our I130 is at NRC, I never filed the I824, and it would take months to get moving anyway. If both went to NVC, I would at least have the consolation of the CR1 and avoiding AOS. Screwed again. Nothing to console me. Maybe except if she makes it here in April, 11 months from our second anniversary, if I wait 4-5 months to file AOS, we might get a 10 year card, and not have to remove conditions. Small consolation. It will take us 12 months+ to get a K3, which usually allows most people to get a CR1.:wacko::angry:

edp I am so happy for you and your wife! Congrats this is wonderful news!

Urge... do u ever watch the Amazing Race? It seems like this is very similar. There is no direct route to the end. Some get held up in one area while others fly by then those who sped along get held up at another spot allowing for the delayed people to catch up. I have thought about letting the CR1 continue. I just got the DS230 packet yesterday in the mail so it's not like I could have done anything anyway since the time of the I129F approval. I do realize i'm about two weeks away from completion at the NVC on the CR1 but i'm too scared to do it. That's the truth of it. There are rules and laws but we all know they don't know/obey them. Nigeria's embassy is an absolute nightmare. It would not surprise me to have them replace the CR1 date with the K3... not that it matters. In my case, the primary reason I didn't want the CR1 was a dual issue.. the time waited for the interview and the history of CR1 cases thru Lagos. Almost every single CR1 case that went thru that embassy has been put in AP for 6 months to a year. After waiting almost a year for an interview I did not want to take that chance. People have been required to get DNA tests for their american born children (which is a very complex process considering it has to be done at an approved lab..). They do whatever they can to stop Nigerians from leaving america with that gold bar.. that permanent residency. I don't want to spend the 1000ish dollars on the tests and I don't want to put us through another ordeal. I'm gonna take that K3 interview and be grateful for it.

After doing the "dhl trick" and tracking our packages to the embassy.. there were two going to Lagos in a two day period of shipments. I believed myself to be one of those.. Ose_n_me believes her own to be the other. Both were delivered on Monday. Her husband has been trying to pick up the packet only to be turned away time and time again. My husband went for the first time yesterday and didn't even get past the guard after standing there from 8am till noon. Fortunately, Ose_n_me's husband FINALLY got into the embassy and got an interview date of April 18th. My husband tried again today and actually got into the embassy this time.. but he was told that they haven't rec'd the packet yet (meaning they haven't opened the mail yet). They told him to come back next week. As most of us know, who are married to people in more impoverished countries.. losing a half of day of work is not something to laugh off. It could be the difference between having a job tomorrow or not. It could mean not having food that night for dinner. Fortunately my husband's situation is not that dire but it is not something easily dismissed. Now he has lost two days and has to lose another. He has to stay in Nigeria until they give him that visa, he can't afford to screw up his life there just yet.

There really is no other option however. If we rely on the mail system to get it to him he might have it by next year if he's lucky. He applied for a visitor's visa a few years ago and he got the interview letter in the mail the day AFTER the interview was scheduled for. The embassy didn't give two craps. They told him, too bad take it up with fedex. I got him another interview by begging and crying on the phone to the State Dept. Office of West African Affairs. I didn't know about VJ back then (2004). We can't risk that happening again. People could be mean and jealous. They will go to great lengths to stop someone from having good fortune, I know it sounds crazy but it's true. Maybe the fedex guy doesn't want people getting interviews at the US Embassy. Maybe he'll hold the package for a while or "lose" it. Even if it's not intentional, their mail system SUCKS and that includes fedex. If you complain to FedEx (which I have) about a package not arriving there, they'll say (as they said to me) oh that's a common issue in Nigeria, there's nothing we can do. My husband HAS to pick it up or we risk blowing everything.

I hate to be ungrateful, I realize where I could be right now if they did pursue the termination of the I129f but our son and I are going to the embassy for the interview. He will be 2 on May 7th. If we fly there in April I only have to pay about 300 bucks for his ticket... if we have to wait till May it will be a lot more.. depending on when we leave etc.

I'm hoping like crazy to get an April date although I can see why you wouldn't be. My approval didn't come until January, yours came so much sooner.

I'm so sorry you are disappointed and you know all the encouraging things to say... it's almost over, hang in there, at least an end is in sight.. etc. etc. etc. It's all true. It's going to be ok. You were very missed around here and don't worry, you will NOT be the last person left in this thread and even if you were no one would leave you!

WaaaaaW.... Urge ... you were missed here, and really sorry for your far interview... but you know what, why not take a vacation like from first or second week of April and go to your wife have the interview togather and then came back... this will make your meeting with your wife a bit closer.

Deb

Oh Deb that's great I'm so happy to hear there is some hope this is going to end!

edp I am so happy for you and your wife!

WaaaaaW.... Urge ... you were missed here, and really sorry for your far interview... but you know what, why not take a vacation like from first or second week of April and go to your wife have the interview togather and then came back... this will make your meeting with your wife a bit closer.

..............Update on my case, finaly when I had my wife go to give the forms in person to the Embassy they right a way gave her appt. date for the interview.. it will be on Tuesday 12th of Feb. that's just one week... how that happen I don't know... we are nervous about it but I can't wait for that day.

holy smokes wintime! That's great! Did you even send the Aff. of Support yet?? geez that doesn't give you much time to plan things out! I'm happy for you though that's wonderful!

Kathryn,

Thanks for your encouraging words. I felt for the first time that someone at USCIS actually liked doing their job and wanted to make the other person feel like their feelings mattered. And you are right in telling Urge he will not be the last one left in the this thread, it will be me, lol!!! I was the only one left in G&A's thread and I will be the last one in this one as well it seems. This is really a rocky road, but I am glad I have all my VJ friends to smooth out the bumps.

Thanks to you Kathryn and everyone on VJ. Good luck getting your interview.

Deb

Oh deb i'm sorry to admit it but i was thinking about you being the last one on the other thread when I wrote that. But being the last isn't always the worst thing, I was blacked out of the last one for two months thinking everyone else was going to be here in 2008 and I was going to flee america if he wasn't here by 2010.. kidnapping my kids in the process (their father would never give permission for me to take them to Africa not that he sees them anyway). You are NOT going to be the last this time girl! You're going to suddenly shoot forward making the rest of us choke on your dust!
