AOS Interview this Morning

Hi All,

Dan & I just got back from our AOS interview in Atlanta, & we were approved!!!! :dance: :dance: :dance:

Our appointment was at 8:00 this morning. I was a little amazed that I wasn't scared or nervous on the way to the appointment. I asked Dan if he was nervous & he said "A little." We parked in the deck (free parking)& started our way to the building. Once inside, they asked to see the appointment letter, & then ran all our things through the x-ray machine. Then we had to walk through the metal detector. Dan set it off (he always does at the airports too). So they had to wave that "wand thing" all around his body then let him through. Then both of us had to sign in. From there they sent us to 5th floor. When we got in that room they had us to put our appointment letter in a tray, sit down, & wait. There were quite a few people there.

We waited about 20 minutes (& I still did not get nervous at all) before we were called back. Then the officer comes & calls Dan's name, which he pronounced first & last name wrong. :lol: We got up & followed him back to his cubicle. He swore us in before we sat down. The first thing he asked for was our ID. Then he asked how we met, when & where we met in person for the first time. If we recognized each other at the airport & was I holding flowers for Dan. :lol: He asked me if I had been up to Canada.

Then he asked Dan if he had ever been arrested in Canada or here, or if he was a communist, or a terrorist. Then he started asking for joint evidence, like insurances, bills, bank accounts, that sort of stuff. Here is where I got nervous.... I had everything so organized, but when he asked for bank statements, for some reason I couldn't remember where I had put them, & couldn't find them. I was flipping that folder every which way. Not being able to find them & knowing I had them, made me get really nervous. :unsure: But after flipping around for a while, I finally found them (thank goodness). Then I went back to being totally at ease.

He asked more questions, some were things he had already asked. Dan felt like he was trying to be tricky & trip us up to see if we gave a different answer the second time around. But we didn't trip. He asked Dan how old he was when he first started working in Canada. He showed us a picture I had sent in with the original K-1 Application & he asked where that picture was made. After that he asked for the medical supplement & tax stuff. He would flip through our file from time to time & make big red check marks. Then he asked for pictures. He looked through our wedding album, but neither of the other two albums we took. He asked who the different people were in the wedding pictures. He asked if we had any pictures for him to keep & I gave him several I had printed off of the computer.

And finally he stamped our file APPROVED. And I told him, "Thank you for letting him stay." I got a giggle out of the officer then. He then stamped Dan's passport with the I-551 stamp & explained when to file to lift conditions. And sent us on our way. He never did say how long it would take to get the actual Green Card & everything went so fast, we didn't think to ask him. Once we got back down stairs, they had us to sign out.

He was all business, but nice. He would smile a little from time to time. He asked a lot of questions but it all went very fast & smooth (except for when I couldn't find the bank statements). Including the wait time, from start to finish took 1 hour. Overall, it was easy.
