Hello all.

I applied for AOS on Aug. 13th and I have recieved my NOA1. I need to travel back to Greece in January so that means I need an advance parole document, right? Does anyone know how long it takes to get such a permission? When should I apply? And what happens if by January I already get my green card?

all too confusing...thanks in advance. :luv:

Takes about 60-90 days. If you need it sooner, you can try to make an infopass appointment to try to get it expedited.

If you get your GC by then, all you need is your GC, AP is unnecessary at that point, but it free to get while your AOS is processing.

There's no telling when you will get your green card, but if you know you will need to leave the US in January, you had better apply for AP as soon as possible. Obviously the risk is that if you get your green card before your AP is accepted, you will have wasted the fee for the AP, but I wouldn't count on getting your green card fast.

See the AP statistics at http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/apstats.php?cfl= so you know how long you can expect to wait to be accepted.

We applied for AP along with our AOS, and it took under 60 days to receive it. Although if you wait to see if you get the GC and can travel on it... and then want to do last minute AP cause the GC hasn't arrived, you'll have to do the infopass to get the AP. The problem is, they are not that nice and want "emergency" situations only to get AP in such a rush, so better to plan ahead if its vacation or visiting family that you want to do.

thank you for all the info and help.

I didn't apply for AP with my AOS cause I didn't know the exact date I was going to travel so I couldn't fill in the application.

I will hurry and do it very soon so I can get the AP in time. Hope the fees are not too much ~ Thank you all!

question : I just thought about it. Do you know if they reject much of the applications? I just need to go back to Greece to visit my family and friends. I mean, it's not an emergency...Is it safe to buy my ticket and then apply? Is there a chance they won't give the AP to me?

They won't reject the application. Vacation/visiting friends/family is a perfectly acceptable reason for AP. You could even have put "as required" for the date of travel and submitted it with your AOS.

We put a date a little earlier than we expected to travel, only so that would make them hurry up and work faster & send us the approved AP. Yes evil optimistic thinking.

It looks like you sent in your AOS after the new fees came into effect so you shouldn't have to pay anything additional. I haven't seen anyone with any experience with this but I suggest sending USCIS a copy of the NOA and your original application when you apply for the AP. You'll also want to make note of it in a covering letter. I entered "To be determined" in the travel date section.

No, they don't have to be exact.
