Things that you don't miss (anymore) back in your country

It is more common to hear people talk about things that they miss back in their country. My wife decided to let go of her "attachments" so she can be free of the emotional baggage everytime she misses a thing or a person or anything. I can agree to a certain point, because it is always hard to let go. She has had struggles letting go during the first few months. And now that she's gradually adjusting to life here in the US, it seems to me that there are things that she used to love/is passionate about back in her country, but doesn't miss/care much about anymore (for example, certain foods, hobbies, choice of movies, people) . For this purpose, we would like to know what are the things in your country that you really like/love/feel passionate about, but don't really care about (at least not that much) anymore. My wife was surprised with her own list.

What I don't miss is: the discrimination with young people when it comes to employment.

See in my home country we all do a lot of studies in University. It's nice to have diplomas and all that, we also do plenty of internships, but when it comes to finding a job: the employer usually tells you: sorry you don't have enough experience.

Well duh! How am I supposed to have a 2 years experience if I'm just out of University and you don't give me a chance? Obviously my over 6 months of internship count for nothing.

So yeah, I definitely don't miss the job market.

I was very impressed here when I was offered interviews for very interesting positions (that I couldn't even dream of in France) and people were interested and the only thing that made it that I couldn't get the job was the work permit. I had compliment on my resume and experience!!! Never had that before I came here.

I like that my experience and education is recognize for what it is here.

Claudeth misses the transportation in the RP. It is funny because she will ride in just about anything but a taxi

Oooh, there are a few things I don't miss at all.

1. Middle Asian beggars on a subway

2. Congested public transportation

3. Age, racial and gender discrimination in employment

4. Rude old people

5. Religious people on the streets trying to make you join their sects

6. 4 seasons - I hate all seasons except summer, so I'm glad I don't have to deal with the other three any more

7. Huge tall buildings and all that big city life

8. Having to hear Russian pop music everywhere :dead:

I just don't get Claudeth, we were just discussing this again and how she doesn't miss the taxis in the RP. I can't figure out what her problem is with taxis, she just doesn't trust the drivers. I would think that jeepneys wouldn't be missed!

I don't miss winter! Snow, ice, sleet, cold, wind so lazy that it won't blow around you so it blows through you instead! Scraping windshields, warming up bitterly cold cars, dead batteries; seeing your breath, feeling your lungs hurt when you breath the air, hearing the tree branches snap in the cold; hearing snow squeak under your feet; heavy, cumbersome coats, thick warm boots, hats and mitts that still don't keep you warm; slushy roads, fender-benders on black ice; going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark . . . nope, I don't miss winter at all.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I won't be missing the 14% tax!!!

Isn't it about the same in the U.S.? Plus state tax, Social Security, Medicare, benefit premiums, parking deductions, mandatory retirement plan deductions and union dues
