Breaking civil law is a sin...period, right? Is that what you really believe?

The answer to your question is no and by the by you misread my statement because I wrote this law and not all laws.

Now, if your conscience permits you (you being anyone) to do the wrong things for the right reasons, is that right? Hmmm... Wrong is wrong and right is right in my book (no matter the intention). However, we all have bent the rules or overlook some policy for our own personal gain to some degree at some point in our lives, but typically not at the expense or offense of others. We can get away from the sin part on focus on what is right and just. I understand that part of that discussion is a matter of prospective. Since I personally know you on some levels, I would say that you are not the type of person to do something willfully wrong and illegal against your neighbor and not regret it. I could go on... but that's enough...

You should throw away that book of yours because it's a bit outdated. :P

"A just law is a man-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. To put it in the terms of Saint Thomas Aquinas, an unjust law is a human law that is not rooted in eternal and natural law."

Jesus saves... He shops at Walmart!

He bought me lunch today and seems to be a very nice guy!

I imagined him being the kind of guy that would be dining with the illegals.

Sure; then He would tell them, "Go and sin no more."

Being illegal is a sin?

The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17 KJV)

1 I am the LORD your God, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

3 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

4 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

5 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

6 Thou shalt not kill.

7 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

8 Thou shalt not steal.

9 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

10 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ###, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

One of the Pharisees tested Jesus with a question, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" (Matthew 22:36 NIV). Jesus replied, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments" (Matthew 22:37-40 NIV)

The Good Samaritan

Luke 10:25-37

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?"

And he answered and said, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."

And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; Do this and you will live."

But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

Jesus replied and said, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went off leaving him half dead.

"And by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

"And likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

"But a certain Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion,

"and came to him, and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

"And on the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you.'

"Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?"

And he said, "the one who showed mercy toward him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same."

....

Charles, everyone IS your neighbor, at least according to Jesus. ;)

Jesus (pbuh) would be appalled at waht is done in his name in history..and today... brought a vision of peace and goodwill to our fellow man...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Being illegal is a sin?

We are to obey the governing authorities as long as we do not violate God's word by doing so, so yes, being illegal is a sin.

The Romans fed Christians to the lions because they were breaking Roman Law. Dirty sinners deserved to die.

The Romans fed Christians to the lions because they disobeyed the law that required everyone to offer incense to Ceasar as to a god, which would be a direct violation of the 1st Commandment.

and Jesus broke the law by healing the sick on the sabbath. he broke many laws. they crucified him for that. such a sinner they deemed.

Daniel

:energetic:

Jesus did not break the Law of Moses. He broke the Pharasees false understandings and additions to the Law.

Stealing from your neighbor is not loving him. The two commandments Jesus gives here do not overturn the 10 Commandments, rather, they sum them up.

Religious law varies on its attitude toward secular law. Breaking a law is only a sin, though, if the action in so breaking is a sin. That's a little vague, and the presumption is to obey all moral laws but murdering = sin. Theft = sin. Breaking the speed limit? Probably not breaking divine law. Working illegally? I think it's a stretch to call that a sin. (I'm not going to confess to babysitting without filling out an I-9.)

7 deadly sins:

Pride- is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Envy- is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.

Gluttony- is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Lust -is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

Anger- is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.

Greed- is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Sloth- is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.
