Everything about you is all about illegal immigrants isn't it?

Actually the dollar going down, has to do with the debt we acquired with the Iraq war. If the dollar goes down, we have to pay less back, since the much of the debt is owned by foreign banks, primarily in China. So Bush gets credit for that.

But the cost of imports rises. Now considering almost everything is imported into the US; this is a huge problem. Just look at the trade deficit.

Yup, a cost of going to war. Especially when we have to borrow money to do it.

I agree with that as well. A country who is hundreds of billions in debt and literally falling apart cannot afford to be in 2 wars; especially without raising taxes.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

There is only so much Democrats can do as they have not been in office too long and Also Bush ####### keeps vetoing anything that the house or congress try to pass. The checks and balances are a total crock at this point. Also Bush is widely critized for changeing the rules of the game, aka the laws for his own advantage. Hes got a head filled with nohting but air. If you tap it you will here a hallow sound. the only thing he has managed to do why being in office is run the USA down. Of course he does not care so long as his little business arent harmed. He collects the riches while we are f over. My man is set with his high dollar contracts with his rich arab petro connections. He will leave wtih a nice chunk of change when hes out of office and continue, while we are left paying the price for his idiotic actions and decisions.

I didn't know the US was "falling apart."

Or are you talking about Australia? Australia's national debt is hundreds of billions of dollars.

Federal Opposition Leader Kim Beazley has expressed alarm at the size of Australia's national debt.

Mr Beazley today told the NSW state Labor Conference at Sydney's Town Hall that

Australia's $425 billion foreign debt was a risk to the economy and called for more

investment in training and infrastructure.

"Over the long term no economy can sustain a mix of spiralling debt and slowing growth," he said.

"I believe John Howard and Peter Costello are taking us to the edge of the debt cliff.

"I fear Australia's credit card is nearly maxed out."

Seems rather strange, but the dollar has been growing strongly against several foreign currencies, including the Euro, during August.

The dollar has been weakening against the Yen, though.

My fiance noticed this and was ecstatic because it means that if things stay this way- when he brings his money from his bank in japan (probably by travelers checks) and has to take a hit from exchange rate- he'll be hit a little less hard.

What's bad for the US may be good for our fiances sometimes

Edit:

Blame Bush #######. I think we need Lewinsky back in white house maybe if she cleares the pipes Bush can get do some REAL good for us before he is out of office. Maybe then we will think with his real head and stop playing around in his Texas ranch. Our president has sadly finished with the US in so many ways. The next president has a big job ahead in cleaning up the mess that Bush has done.

Big investors took their nice $$$$$$$ and gold out of our banks and invested in the Euro. They keep going up while this ship is skinking.

Isn't both the congress and house controlled by democrats?? Bush is the president but he is not responsible for the actions of everyone else. For example the $41.1 billion dollars sent overseas, by immigrants, every year.

Sorry to disturb your party but if I remember correctly, the Dems took over the Congress only after last year's election. The US Dollar has crashed ever since Bush and the Republican Congress set out to pursue their irresponsible borrow-and-spend-like-there's-no-tomorrow fiscal policy. It's going to take some time to stabilize the USD.

There's also much to be said for greedy subprime lenders, who are now being bitten in the butt and have essentially caused the liquidity crisis. That in turn has caused the volatility in the market, which has a lot to do with the fluctuations of currency in the immediate term.

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Over extended! When I first went to the Philippines the conversion rate was about 58.5 pesos to the dollar and now it is 46.8. That is not a good thing for expats trying to survive on a fixed income.

Given that we're at around $2:£1 right now and in 2001 it was varying around $1.46:£1, I'd say the dollar has some serious rallying to do.

No doubt about it  But in the past week, it went from 2.06 to 1.979.

For anyone here changing £££s to $$$, that little diff could be a substantial loss.

enjoy it now...

it was nice when my hubby was still in holland... but now that he is here, paying off what remains of his debt there is much harder...

All currencies are valued by the market forces of supply and demand. A currency will tend to become more valuable whenever demand for it is greater than the available supply. It will become less valuable whenever demand is less than available supply.

When buying for example US goods and services or investing in US, individuals and companies need to purchase the dollar (high demand) so in order for dollar to appreciate US needs to export more (lower the trade deficit ASAP) or offer a really good return on investment in order to attract the foreigners to invest in the US. I think US managed to survive their trade deficit just because is a USA but that’s just my opinion. Nobody want’s dollar anymore, everybody are buying Euro
