After DCF: QR code + greencard + traveling in and out of the states

Hi everyone, 

 

I recently completed DCF (i made a seperate forum post about this). 

 

Two questions

question 1: when i recieved my passport back, there was attached a small card with a QR code. I followed that link at it told me that i still have a payment to make, i think it was $200 or $300. this payment should be made BEFORE i travel to the us. 

my question is: is that correct or did i already make that payment in the embassy? 

 

 

I recieved my passport back and it had a sticker in it with a visa to travel into the US. I do not yet have a green card. 

Question 2: When and how do i recieve or request my greencard

 

Question 3: I am traveling to the states on March 1st. can i leave the states and come back, with that sticker in my passport? Or would i first need a greencard? (i need to go to mexico for a week or two ASAP-)

+ question 4: i was send, with my passport, an enveloppe that i can not open and have to present to the customs person when i land in the states. Can anyone tell me what is waiting for me when i land? like is there an interview or more papers or ...

1. Yes, that’s your green card fee. It can only be paid only after the visa has been granted. 
 

2. You’ll receive your green card once you have entered the US on your immigrant visa, and paid the fee. Usually within 90 days of the later of those two things. 
 

3. The endorsed visa in your passport acts as a temporary green card until the plastic one turns up. 
 

4. You will have to hand that envelope over to the immigration officer. You’ll likely be asked a few simple questions, things like confirming the address you want your GC sent to etc, and then your visa will be endorsed (stamped) so you become a LPR of the US at that point.

1.  That is the USCIS  Immigrant fee.  It is paid online.  You can pay it either before or after travel, but your actual Green card will not be procuded until you have both entered the US and paid the fee.  The fee is $235

2.  Your Green Card will be automatically mailed to your US address.

3.  You can travel on an endorsed immigrant visa.

4.  No interview......just a couple questions.

you could go to Mexico and enter from there or fly in from there

thanks guys! do you guys know if i can already request a social security number from belgium, before i enter the states?

and one more question: i want to start jobhunting, would i need a SS number for that or do companies not ask for it in the application stage

No, you need to be a LPR.

You don’t need it until you get paid.
