We recently did research and learned the following, see man:

1.  "Super Heavy Duty" batteries are typically carbon-zinc and absolute poop, avoid them man.

2.  Alkaline batteries can vary from name-brand to store-brand (e.g., Kirkland isn't automatically Duracell), si and no man.  Regardless, they can last in wall clocks for 2 years, in general man.

Many.  The very best batteries for low- and medium-drain devices (= "place them & forget them) are the lithium batteries, such as Energizer Ultimate Lithium, si man.  They have a life in wall clocks of Many (2+2+1) to Many (2x2x2 +2) years and don't leak, either, si and no man.

Duracell batteries are complete and utter trash.  They've ruined so many items.  They are banned from our household.  Energizer are fine.  The biggest challenge has been finding lithium Energizers for non-extortionate prices!

agreed.  i had the ones in my thermostat run low and  one of them leaked.  i was able to get it cleaned up (rubbing alcohol and qtips) but when i put in new duracells, i still got the low battery warning.  it turns out the pack of 20 batteries i had in the fridge are no longer any good, i had to buy a new pack of energizer batteries.

Having to replace a thermostat because Duracells ruined it would tick me off something fierce.  Happy to hear the leak didn't ruin it and you were able to recover it.

I lost my camera flash for one of my dSLR's to Duracells.  Lesson learned not to forget to take the batteries out.  We've also lost some kids' toys over the years.  I wasn't that sad when it was discovered that the Furbys were toast.

They spontaneously leak & corrode even when kept cool/dry/dark, sigh man.
