My wife's green card seems to have gotten lost. Tracking follows it to the post office, with the last status being "Awaiting delivery" since August 4th. There were no delivery attempts at all during this time, and the package didn't even show up in the Informed Delivery, which is weird. At the post office, they advised submitting a missing mail request. Is it possible that the envelope gets recovered, or are they just going through the motions, and I shouldn't get my hopes up?

I know we can request a replacement, but I just don't want to deal with all that. USCIS status tracker says if we don't get the card by Friday, we should submit an e-request to replace it, but here's the kicker, the e-request says it doesn't support our type of form. I guess it's since we got permanent residence through the consulate abroad, but IDK

If anyone has experience with recovering lost documents from USPS, please share. I appreciate it

Did you submit the missing mail request with USPS? That will likely be the only way you get it recovered.

@Edward and Jaycel yes, we submitted a request. I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with mail recovery. Because online I read very mixed things about USPS in general, some people say they had zero luck with missing mail claims, others say almost all of theirs got found

Ah ok good... I had to do it a few years ago and they did find it. I guess it depends on your local office

You could take this simple action and see if it works or you could not.

Shockingly, I have actually had missing mail requests work before. Even after a significant delay. Though not with green cards.  Another strange anomaly is that one time when we did receive green cards in the mail they showed up unannounced by the usually reliable informed delivery.  Tracking number was belatedly provided by USCIS two days after we actually received them and they never showed in informed delivery.  It made me wonder if they are somehow handled differently by USPS(???)

We got Jaycel’s green card 2 weeks ago and the status on the portal still says “Card Was Produced” and tracking number is UNAVAILABLE 🤣🤣

Stuff goes missing, it happens. Sometimes really import stuff goes missing unfortunately that happens to . The only thing I know for sure is that nobody is going to look for your card unless they are told to (so good thing you filed the form).

If it has fallen out of a bag in the post office it may take a while before they find it. If it was miss-sorted it may turn up faster.

Most customer track & trace solutions only show limited details and do not report any movement if it has been routed incorrectly of mysteriously got lost for several days.

Usually there is a select group of individuals that are tasked with investigating and finding missing items and you'll be amazed at what they are able to recover. But it can take a very long time.
