Hello everyone! I’m interested in applying for my mother in laws tourist visa. She lives in Dominican Republic and has applied several times and ever time they deny her but will not give her a reason.

She owns her home, has a restaurant, two older children there, a car, bank account with money in it. So I’m not sure what the reason is for the denial.

She was using a lawyer over there to fill out her paperwork but Im going to fill out the paperwork this time to see if it makes a difference. Any suggestions?

thank you!

The vast majority of B visa denials are due to lack of strong ties to home country.

They don't just deny a visa without saying why. She just might not understand the wording. Hopefully she still has the denial notices they will have given her after every interview so you can understand. It's unlikely you will be successful if you don't know what you are trying to counter.

Also, how many times is she applying and within what time frame? Just because they say you can reapply at any time, multiple applications in quick succession after being denied can look desperate. It is only a tourist visa after all, so it would be questioned why she is so determined.

Never heard of anyone not being told why it was refused, especially when there have been multiple applications.

DS 160 is easy to fill in and I get worried when a "Lawyer" is involved.

I will ask her about any papers she was given stating the refusal. I told her you don’t need a lawyer to fill out these forms because they are super easy. I think because she is older she was worried if she might not understand correctly and fill it out wrong.

the last time she went for an interview was in Dec of 2024

That’s quite recent, I think I’d leave it a lot longer before trying again, as said above it looks a bit desperate if there are too many applications in a short period of time so is likely to be another quick refusal. When were her previous refusals?
