@OldUser I'm travelling to Canada for work on Monday.  My conditional card doesn't expire until 1st October.  Do I need to take the extension letter yet or not until closer to the expiry?

The question is, how long are you going for? If you're back before October 1, technically you don't need to carry extension letter.

Letter isn't needed in my opinion. You can make a physical / digital copies and take with you. This is in case CBP ask whether you filed I-751. You'd have reference to it

Thank you.

I went to the DMV today to extend my license  (which was a REAL ID) expiration date with the extension letter. I was able to get my driver’s license expiration extended but the agent said the letter was not sufficient enough to get a REAL ID again, that it would just be a regular license. I’m pretty sure this is incorrect, did anyone else have this experience 😒?? This is in Arizona

Have you presented other proof of address etc that's required for Real ID?

Letter itself and GC isn't enough alone for Real ID, but with other docs it should work.

I had Real ID in California renewed when I had I-751 pending.

(I posted few weeks ago that my physical extension letter got misdelivered)

I wanted to share an update regarding my driver’s license renewal with Real ID.

My license was set to expire on 8/13/25, and I renewed it online on 7/17. I was pre-approved by uploaded the digital version of the Receipt of Notice. However, since I was also renewing my Real ID, I had to appear in person at a DMV field office.

During my visit to the DMV on 7/23, the staff informed me that my Green Card had expired just 5 days beyond the 60-day window. They explained that if it had been more than 60 days, I would only need to show the Green Card and wouldn’t need the extension letter. Since my Green Card expired on 9/17, I was quite frustrated by the response.

I then visited a different DMV, where they accepted just my Green Card—no questions about the extension letter!!

I received my new DL with Real ID yesterday! I'm still not sure if I met the requirement exactly (pre-approval on the last day of the 60-day window), or if I simply got lucky with the second DMV.

Hope this helps others in a similar situation.
