Hey folks,

I have a query about the medical assessment and mental illness'. In 2012 I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I have taken medication from 2012 till roughly summer 2016 and have not been on it since. I have never been to see a psychiatrist. I have never been admitted to hospital. I have never attempted any self harm. I have not worked and have been on ESA since 2013 (UK)

Even though It has been years since Ive had any mental health episodes, do I still need to get a doctors note saying i'm not a danger to myself or others? Does my benefit status come up at all in a medical or consulate interview?

Thanks

You will need a report from your doctor which should state dates of consultations, medication prescribed, diagnosis, prognosis, any (or no) incidents of self-harm, harm to others or sucidal thoughts, current state of mental health.

I had my medical last week and was given a standard letter to give to my doctor requesting all this information as I had indicated that I had been treated for stress during 2013 and the letter I had brought with me from my doctor was not detailed enough.

The advice from the poster above is very good, and I would just further add that the most important language also should read in the letter ''X person is not a threat to themselves or others''. No your unemployment benefits isn't a factor. This is based on your sponsor, financially sponsoring you.

Hello.  Can I just ask is the medical questionnaire handed to you upon arrival?  Also what sort of questions are on the questionnaire?  Do they ask about your sexual history for example?

After you hand in your paperwork they give you the questionnaire - they don't ask about your sexual history.  There are questions about your sexual health and STDs but nothing other than that.  The only section that I remember being about habit/history is to do with substance and alcohol abuse/addiction.

Ok cheers mate.  I just booked my courier online (to be delivered to my address) and in the morning I plan to call the doctors office in Knightsbridge, London to book my medical exam.  Can I also ask, were you made to get any additional vaccines that you maybe never had?  I have never gotten the flu jab and really never planned to ever, but now it seems this is a requirement which I find really annoying. I wonder if I can refuse it?

I'm assuming they charge you for any vaccines they give (on top of the hefty £290 flat rate they charge).  I wonder if I should just go to my doctors to see if there are any boosters I may need?

Thanks for your response (in advance)

You have booked your courier?  For the interview?  Have you booked the interview before the medical?

You only need to get the flu jab if your medical is before the 31st March - and that might not be possible at this stage.  If you schedule your medical for after 31st March you won't need the flu jab.  Go to your doctor to get your tetanus booster and the MMR if you haven't had it. You will need your vaccination history (-see posts above and a page or two prior to this one.)

You will also need details of any previous serious illnesses or hospitalisation (anything you answer 'yes' to on the questionnaire you complete before the medical - Knightsbridge email you this in advance).  Allow plenty of time for this - doctors can take their time preparing you a letter - and be prepared for extra charges (mine cost another £50!).  Full details - dates, diagnosis, prognosis, medication, dosage, treatment etc...

Get whatever jabs you need before your medical.  Knightsbridge will give you whatever you are missing - but the prices are hefty.  It cost me an extra £40 because - although I had had a tetanus booster in the past ten years - my vaccination record didn't list previous tetanus injections.  In order to get my ds3025 signed off I needed another jab.  If you don't get your ds3025 signed off it will cost a lot more to go through a civil surgeon in the US.

The medical questionnaire and shot price list are in this document https://uk.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2016/08/IV018a-IV-medical-letter-Aug-2016.pdf

The shot list is here https://uk.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2015/11/vaccine_chart.pdf

Only  the ones appropriate for your age are required. No flu required after March 31. (Not flu season)

No varicella because not routinely available in UK. Waived. (This does not work for a K1)

So basically you worry about MMR and Tdap.

Bring a shot record from your GP if you have had those.

I willl add - that my most recent tetanus jab was on my vaccination record - in 2008 - but the nurse insisted that I needed THREE records on my tetanus and she gave me another jab and a note telling me that I needed another one in 6-12 months (which I don't because I have had the jabs - my doctor just didn't have the record on the computerised system and they couldn't be bothered digging around in my paper records)

I had never heard or read anything about needing an extensive history of tetanus jabs - until the nurse told me it was necessary - so try to get your own doctor to fill in all your previous vaccinations -it might save you £40!  And I will add - she didn't give me the Tdap - just the Td - so it wasn't because I was missing the pertussis on my record.

By the way what is the DS-3025?

Thanks for the heads up!  My last tetanus was 2009.  Probably best to get another doctor to pull up my files (assuming they can due to confidentiality) cos my doctors a lazy ####### and only works 2 days a week anyway! Lol!

The DS 3025 is the form the people at Knightsbridge hand back to you once your medical is completed. It is imperative for your AOS that you get BOTH pages back from them before you leave. The added a second page that has a statement that basically says you got your immunizations needed for immigration.

If you don't get this back there is a possibility that you will have a headache when filing for AOS later on. The DS 3025 can be used in place of the I 693 as long as you file for AOS within 1 year of your medical (which most of us do), but a lot of UK filers have had issues with RFE's for their DS 3025 from Knightsbridge without that second page. (some have still had it even with the second page... it seems to depend on the adjudicator you get)

By the way what is the DS-3025?

DS-3025 is an immunization sheet done at the visa medical. You will be given a photocopy but you won't need it for immigration purposes. Your original DS-3025 goes to the embassy with the medical results and will show you are cleared for the spouse visa and greencard. You do not adjust status in the US. You are a permanent resident the day you enter.

Your vaccination history:

You are wanting record of MMR (mumps, measles, rubella) which are typically baby shots.

If you have proof of two MMR, then no more needed for visa.

If you have proof of one MMR, then another due for visa.

If you have no proof of MMR, then get one at the GP and the second will be waived if four weeks have not passed when you go to your medical. They can't give your the second one closer than four weeks so it is waived for "insufficient time interval." IF it is waived, you never have to get it.

Next shot needed is Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertussis. It may be on your childhood records as DTP. P is pertussis, not polio. It's a childhood series of three shots you may already have. If so, and your last one was less than 10 years ago then you should be okay. If you don't have records then you may need a Td booster like ChellyandAaron had to get. That's a new twist at Knightsbridge and maybe a new shot person insisting on three previous before they will give you credit for the one you had on 2009.

Varicella shot- if you tell them you had chickenpox, it is waived. No written record needed. But as a CR1, it can also be waived for the reason "not routinely available" because difficult to get in the UK and you must be complete by your interview. So they waive it since you can't get it in the UK, even at Knightsbridge. You never have to get it if waived.

London does not require any of that. You are going to be surprised at how easy and quick it is (other than waiting your turn to be called up to the window.)  Have a good trip. It's showtime!!
